I hope you didn't give them an email addy you really like. Be prepared for tons of spam!
The gegy crew were found out to be email harvesters. They actually posted a help wanted ad at elance.com to hire someone to harvest emails from ebay! They left glowing feedback when the job was completed.
Whatever you do, DO NOT give them ANY financial info. They are not to be trusted.

Is there anywhere I can check all this out? I was kinda hoping they might have screwed up and are fixing stuff so they can do it right this time....is that not possible (?) or is it wishful thinking...lol

goldenpony,
The original page that had all the info laid out, has mysteriously disappeared, as well as the cached page that was located at google as of last night. I'm looking to see if someone else may have cached the page and has it on their personal webspace. I should have did it myself, but I didn't think it would have disappeared from google so quickly.

Yes, it is wishful thinking.
It is impossible for a person to change their basic character unless they experience a life-changing event. A corrupt heart will always remain so unless that person destroys their old ways and finds a new one. And that change can only come from within, not from without.
Gegy has not changed their heart. And external forces cannot make it so. No amount of wishful thinking can change the heart of another. They must choose to do so themselves. But most never do.

Google must have been working on their pages earlier. I couldn't get the cached page with the antics of gegy outlined to come up earlier.
Goldenpony,
If you are interested, read this page to find out the scoop. At the end, is a timeline of the events that took place Starting in January of this year and leading right up to when Gegy shut down, at least temporarily:

The page seems to come and go for some reason. The best thing I can tell you is, go to google and do a search on gegy if this link doesn't work.

Thanks bidsbids,
I got the information....nasty stuff there huh?
OH! GP be careful.......*I'm gonna bunk with the brick house piggy for this ride*, as much as I would like to see a new, HONEST auction site pop up that may please everyone (unlike you know who!!!), I do not think gegy is it...however I will just reserve judgement!
If they prove themselves honest I may visit, otherwise I will continue to just list on the Giant and make some money (still hate those fees but I do not have time to waste on smaller sites all begging for bidders!!!)

Gotta love it...
From the gegy site:
"Gegy Inc. Cares We will donate 100% of company revenues from October Auctions to: American Red Cross & United Way of America Relief Funds"
Wow guys... you open at 9:30 pm on the 27th so your total exposure for this will be limited to about 64˝ (?) hours worth of fees generated by one and three day listings which end before midnight on the 31st... Way Cool...
Another great feature sure to win the hearts of sellers world-wide...
For sellers who choose to use their our image hosting solution, you must upload one image to the Gegy server, for each auction that you list, otherwise you will not have a gallery thumbnail image.
So it's use our hosting regardless, if you want a gallery shot... we don't mind if you do double the work on listing...
And, I wonder how long it will take them to figure out that this one is a BAD idea:
A field in the 'list an item' to add your homepage or storefront
I love this contest rule:
As per our User Agreement and site policies regarding privacy and spamming, please DO NOT send unsolicited emails or use public forums and usernets to solicit referrals.
Do as I say, NOT as I do...?
All registered Gegy.com members who are 18 years or older, may participate in this contest.
So, you can be under 18 and register?
Hmmmmm... thanks, but no thanks.

Chuckling, I can't help but wonder just what goes through the mind of PTB that could decide to go into a self destruct mode with a site that isn't even up yet.
Gplewis: Thanks for the information! Indeed the info does seem to indicate that there may not be professionals at the helm and just who could possibly want to involve their assests in a site that doesn't seem to know that the OAU's are not stupid but rather sophisticated buyers and sellers.
Sitting here pondering the effects of the continuing saga makes one marvel about the ability of a site with it's obvious history of an attempted scam that failed and at how will they overcome the obsticles that they continue to erect.
I guess we'll see what we'll see and let the users decide for themselves if Gegy can make it.
I'll bet not!

Gegy.com is doomed from the PR nightmare that still looms around it.
He should just give up, and start a new site, and stop mentioning his own name. Perhaps get a "figurehead" manager.
Either that, or go sell used cars.

WAIT! I just love the part about giving all auction proceeds from October's auctions to the American Red Cross.
Let's see they launch October 27th, 2001. 4 days before the end of the month. So WOW, like ebay, they are being so generous! 4 whole days of donations. Even before they changed their launch date it would have only been 11 days.
Their giving is just amazing!

Since they're not launching until Oct. 27 they won't have any "auction proceeds" to donate unless people run 3-day auctions AND get bids. And just how likely is that?

Something is very fishy about Gegy.com, and their self-proclaimed "multi-million dollar ad campaign." I do not believe that they have anything. If they had this so-called backing, then the site would of launched several months ago. The only reason why they have any traffic or attention is because of all of us talking about them, and referring other people to them. Gegy.com is just another site with no money. The worst part is that nobody can believe a word from the company anymore. They are liars clear and simple.

Wasn't the 20th the day to start pre-listing?
This is what my email said:
--Pre-listing of auctions will commence on Saturday October 20, 2001.
Now the site says:
STAY TUNED: We are anticipating being able to start pre listing tomorrow evening. Please check this page tomorrow at Noon EST for an update.
Thank you from Gegy Management
And did anyone see this link?
http://www.gegy.com/advertise.html
Looks like the site is going to have competing banner ads.
Gegy.com Banner Advertising
Gegy.com has banner ad space available on an ongoing basis. Run of site is available, though depending on your target audience, you might want to take advantage of specific placement of your ad- such as category specific or keyword search-based placement on GegyAUCTION. And don't forget about GegyLIVE and GegyPAY.

Geez,
Gegy, Itchy&Scratchy bid, B**B**, and now Carnaby.. If all of these companies have some much money, how come they do ADVERTISE!!!! If Carnaby had "100 American Adults register" for their sweepstakes last year.. Why aren't up on top with the big guys? They have been around since 1997. Up to a couple of months ago, I have never heard of them..
Note... Only the sites that I had listed above had mentioned that they have a million dollars or more for advertising, marketing, etc. I cannot believe that any of these sites have that kinda money.
Very strange...

Hello bobgaj,
The auction site is not allowed to be discussed because of problems arising out of disruption.
Often times, civil discussion surrounding the site was not possible and there were constant warnings and the locking of threads.
In order to get a handle on the problem, the discussion of the site was halted.
If you have any further questions, please email [email protected]
Thank you,
Marty

I looked at the following link http://www.geocities.com/bidsbids2001/index.html posted by bidsbids. If spaming is the main reason for such an uproar, then I wonder why eBay is not considered as guilty. Not only do they send spam via. EOA notices, but by nearly all communications to and from them. You can even opt out and they opt you right back in.
I know nothing about GEGY, but from what I read in the article, I saw nothing that most auction sites have not done. If lies alone are the reason for the uproar, then ePier should be held in higher contempt. They have not only lied, but lied about telling lies and then lied again and again.
Was any individual actualy harmed by GEGY's (lies?)? Just asking, because I know nothing about this site.

Speaking of eBay, wanna real nightmare? Try getting them to cancel your account completely and remove your personal info from their database (CC and bank account numbers)

I think the Bidville threads have been more disruptive and have been locked ten times more than the B**B*Y threads ever were. It would be in AW's best interests to also ban BV.
