This appears in my opinion to be the ultimate oxymoron the customer service at Paypal is at best poor. When I first signed up it took more than a month to verify my address (they said they were expanding and the mail was slow.) Now My account has been frozen for a fraudulent payment but they will not tell me any specific information on the case. This has been going on for two weeks with numerous phone calls and emails to no avail meanwhile two more payments have been received and I do not have access to any of the money. now almost $1200.00 I am a small business run by an out of work partially disabled person. Like most people in my position $1200.00 can make or break me. I do not want the world to stop for me but at least they should have the common decency to give me some of the details I have shipped all of the items for which I have received payments except for the last two. My customers want to know when they can expect their merchandise. I a seriously looking for a alternative to Paypal and am now putting a declaimer on my auctions saying I can no longer accept payments with Paypal.

Given PayPal's poor security measures that have been exploited with numerous accounts being utilized for fraudulent activity, remember this is only from U.S.-based transactions.
With international transactions coming next week (still on schedule?), the results could well be disastrous for PayPal accountholders.

Start using billpoint, I don't think they will freeze your whole account. Billpoint has good customer serviece, I accept their eChecks. I quit PayPal after a similar experience, luckily I had no money in the account. I hope your account is unfrozen quickly, mine took over 3 weeks. As soon as the restriction was lifted I closed it. Have you tried emailing that Damon guy?
Good Luck,

"Start using billpoint, I don't think they will freeze your whole account."
If someone pays you with a stolen or unauthorized credit card BillPoint will not freeze your account, that is true. They do something else. Perhaps you should write them to learn what they do.

Well the story has a ending I think. I hope Damon is the one responsible for it. If so I take my hat off to Him. Here is the scoop it appears that no one paid me with a fraudulent card. Someone else paid me after receiving money from a fraudulent card or maybe even one more rung up. Based on that logic I guess that person believes that you freeze the entire banking world until the money is recovered. My account was frozen for 13 days when I didn't even receive a payment directly from a fraudulent source. It is time to do some serious shakeups at Paypal I think. I also think their customer service people need to be better informed about their policies in these cases. I talked to siz different customer service people and three supervisors and got nowhere. All I got was told they would get the information I was looking for and give me a call. I think that is the check is in the mail. No really!

So PayPal restricts PayPal accounts in which there have been legitimate transactions, because somewhere in the distant past there was a fradulent transaction?
Looking at it like this
A > B > C > D
it seems that sellers must not only be concerned that the current buyer C is making a legitimate payment from their account to seller D, but that the B > C and A > B payments were also on the up and up.
And this simplifies the completion of a transaction?

I guess that is the logic they are using. they must be related to the guys at ebay. The logic seems very similar to the current issue of surcharges. If the surcharge is for service not a credit card its legal and you can elect to not charge it to people who pay by check or money order as a premium. I guess I am ready to go back to brick and morter and get out of this new economy.

Dear Valued PayPal User:
We regret to inform you that your PayPal account has been restricted because you received a payment from John Doe who received a payment from John Smith who received a payment from Al Gore who received a payment from Bill Clinton who received a payment made with a stolen credit card from Igor Ivanesky who is based in the Russian Federation. Sorry for the inconvenience. But the good news is that we will continue receiving payments on your behalf!

Considering that even a two level deep set of freezing could involve hundreds of different accounts this could get very interesting. I wonder how they would justify this on a freezing transaction only level.
Which money went on to the third person after the second person got the transaction amount frozen. Will the third person get a part of a transaction frozen?

Hi,
I know that Billpoint can take the money back and charge your a charge back fee. That's why we only use the eChecks, they are guarenteed. Have a nice afternoon

If you are concerned with your money being frozen, you could always go with one of the options where they never hold your money and just pass it directly into your bank account, like eMoneyMail or Achex...

Yea then they can freeze your bank account instead. Don't forget when you accept theier terms you give them that right. It will be a cold day in #$#% before these guys get my bank account and I don't care what bonuses they offer. Accepting international payment is going to open the door for one HUGE fraud. Just a matter time.

is now going on 5 weeks. When is my
account going to be lifted.. I don't
need emails I need my account restricting
lifted... I need someone to get off their
rear end now......!!!!!!!!!!!
