Verified Yahoo seller failed to deliver to about 45 bidders involving Thousands of Dollars. We jumped through all the PP hoops and also filed Internet Fraud complaint as well as notifying the FBI who stated this seller is ready to be indicted for defrauding multiple hundreds of victims. All this info was forwarded numerous times to PP by e-mail and hard copy and so far after 65 days PP is not responding.
This is a fairly large group of people who are ready to file charges against PP.
Damon, why have a fraud protection policy that doesn't deliver as advertised when the facts clearly show that a crime was commited by a PP seller that certainly falls within your "fraud" guidelines?

PayPal's protection policy is there mostly to deter buyers from initiating a chargeback on their credit card.
I'm one of the others who got burned. Unfortunately, the statement that PP's buyers protection claim is only to keep people from charging back credit card transactions is what I've thought for a while now. It is also deceitful marketing and within the perview of the FTC.
My question is since we found out about the scam artist pretty quickly, and informed PP (who closed the account and seized the money), why don't we have our refunds? What happens to the $50+k? Is x.com going to keep that money?
There are 45+ members on my email list, all have the exact same problem. They used PP, called PP, emailed PP, filled out the forms and sent them back to PP. Only one stated they got a refund.
I have just written a letter to PP with the cover letter that I am sending to the FBI agent invesigating.
Quite frankly, I am disgusted with PP. I'm giving PP only one more week to respond before I start pursuing the FTC and state attorney general, and gleefully sending out press releases along the way.

I think you're being way too generous and patient. Their actions (or inactions) so far have been inexcusable, wouldn't you say? I'd AT LEAST do the FTC thing -- IMO you owe it to the millions of PayPal users who are sitting ducks for PayPal and at any MOMENT could *fall victim* to the same kind of treatment (and others we've read about here and elsewhere) from PayPal.
As for the state atty gen, maybe that move would get their ATTENTION at least. Press releases?? -- well, it's definitely your decision about when it's appropriate to crank them up.

Interesting! PayPal told my attorney they don't have time to work on my case because they are too busy with other bigger cases. (I am not surprised seeing how PayPal is a fraud magnet.) Yours must be one of them.
I have contact info for an attorney who is interested in pursuing a class action suit against PayPal. If you are interested, send me an email at [email protected]

I'm with those who've already posted. I'm out only $209, but that's my money! And, according to their protection claim, I'm due my money BACK! I filled out their form, I waited the 30 days for investigation, I'm still waiting.
PayPal. Pay up, or find my name on the class action lawsuit against you. Nuff Said!

If you feel that you've been damaged by PayPal, contact jshumko, and get the contact information for the attorneys who are considering a class action lawsuit against PayPal. They do these things on a contingency basis- which means no out of pocket expenses to you, and they do most of the work.
I've also got the contact information, if you cannot get through to jshumko for some reaon.

As of 11/01/00 my PayPal account statement shows a "reverse payment" PENDING in the amount of $396.32 which is strange as the amount paid to our crooked friend was $404.00
Now, I signed up as a "premium" PP member whereby PP collects 1.9% of payments made to me and guess what? - YUP, my refund, if it ever becomes "completed", is decreased by 1.9% - WOW, I get to pay a commission for getting my own money back! YIPEE!!!

Yep. Same with my account, but I'm NOT a premium customer. Just a regular account and I also got charged the 1.9%.
I guess I missed that part of the TOS, where people get charged to get thier money back. Doph.
