About Buddhist painting by copperplate etching
The pioneer of Buddhist painting by etching, and also restores a national treasure.

Etching technology was intoroduced to Japan in the end of 18th century. The famous artist Shiba Kokan was the first Japanese to produce a copperplate etching. This style of art is continued today by Tomiharu Yanagi, who is a pioneer of Buddist painting by copperplate etching.
His works are highly regarded throughout Japan.
He has also known as the master who repaired the national treasures "KOJIMA KONGOUKAI MANDARA","KOJIMA TAIZOUKAI MANDARA".
A Copperplate Etching is usually a kind of print art. But, Mr.Yanagi's works are different.
He paints a graven copperplate directly in many different colors. It's his original way.
It is said that the charm of his works is the beauty of cppper's brilliancy and exquisiteness.
His works are highly valued not only in Japan.
In 2004, He won the top prize at "une-expression-libre-de-la-beaute(Exhibition of "Liberty of Beauty")" held in La Carrousel du Louvre, Paris.
After that, His works came to be invited to various overseas exhibitions.
But, he says "I'm not an artist. I'm a craftsman. Because, originally Buddhist paintings are ritual articles for commemoration of ancestors. It's votive offerings. Then, I have never wrote my name of my works."

We are truly honored to offer his works on eBay.
