If your car has had a hardtop fitted previously (eg. OEM hardtop) these
inserts will already be in place. To source them from your local Porsche dealer
you will need the following part numbers:
986 563 713 02 (Left) and 986 563 714 02 (Right)
2. How will I access my rear trunk
space?
The Z-top has a fully operational hatch that opens up to reveal the trunk
space. The hatch lid operates with gas-filled struts and locks with the same
latching system as the existing trunk lid.
3. How much does the Z-top weigh?
The complete top weighs approx 99 lbs (45 kg), including the glass and
insulations/interior lining. Light enough for two people. However, when you take
into account the weight reduction with the removal of the rear trunk and soft
top lids, the net weight becomes only 65 lbs (29 kg) for the 986 ('97-'04)
Boxster.
4. Do I need special tools and/or skills to install
the Z-top?
The tool you will need is to install the Spin-Lock inserts, which is a 5mm
allen or hex key. a 10mm wrench will be needed to fit the hinges for the hatch
door.
5. Do I need to have a Porsche professional install
the top?
You do not need to have a Porsche specialist install the top, you can do it
yourself. A comprehensive installation guide is included with every Z-top
product.
6. Do I need any additional parts to complete the
installation?
Yes. The Z-top comes ready to install, with the rear window demister wiring
harness included. NOTE: You do need to have the Spin-Lock inserts installed and
make arrangements to have a center latch (either via Porsche, or we can supply
this should you be unable to source it locally) Contact us for part numbers.
7. How does the top seal to the
body?
The Z-top makes use of the existing seal areas that are on the Boxster
already. The Z-top seals up against the bootlid top surface and against the
windshield interface.
8. Do you have authorized installers for those of us
who do not want to or cannot install the top ourselves?
We have a growing network of installers at the same time as we develop the
dealer network. Please contact us for recommendations or offers of interested,
skilled installers in your area.
9. What are the contact points between the Z-top and
the Boxster body?
The contact points are the mounting or securing points (side post and
windscreen latching point) and the seal areas. The Z-top or any of its seals
will not be in direct contact with any painted surface.
10. Will there be any potential paint
scuffing?
No. Z-top does not come into contact with any exterior painted surface,
existing seal surfaces are utilized. Care needs to be exercised when fitting the
top though.
11. Is my third brake light still
visible after the top is installed?
No. The Z-toptop comes with its own brake light and wiring harness for easy
adaptation to existing brake light wiring.
12. Is the Z-top
watertight?
Yes.
13. Are the windows real
glass?
Yes, the windows are DOT certified automotive safety glass.
14. How do you ship the
Z-top?
Each Z-top is individually packaged for easy and safe handling. This
eliminates chance of damage while unloading from shipping containers and
facilitates easy transcontinental truck transport.
15. I don't live in a major metropolitan
center, how is the top shipped to me?
Right now we will be shipping Fedex Air or DHL with door delivery. At some
point we do plan to build and inventory so they can be shipped via truck
Freight.
16. How is the Z-top secured?
The Z-top is secured to your Boxster via front windscreen soft top latching
point and OEM hardtop side post mounting points on either side of the car. You
will typically find a plastic plug covering these two side mounting points.
The Z-top will come with the Spin-Lock side latching devices. NOTE: You will
need to ensure that you have the Spin-Lock inserts mounted before installing the
top and have the center latch ready to mount. You can purchase the inserts and
center latch or we can supply them, on order form please indicate if you wish us
to supply them.
17. What colors are available?
The top comes in a white gelcoat ready for primer and paint from your local
bodyshop.
18. How much does it cost?
This will depend on where in the world you are. The Z-top when packaged is a
bulky part and thus shipping costs vary according to the selected shipping
service and destination. Options are available for the Z-top which affect the
price. Please contact us for a comprehensive quote.
19. Will the Z-top fit my older model
Boxster?
The Z-top will be available for the 986 (1997-2004) around March 2017. For
now we just have the 2005+ 987 version.

my convertible Boxster to coupe (hardtop)?
No. Although the Z-TOP is a removable hardtop, it can be left on indefinitely
if required. No permanent modification to your Boxster is required and thus it
can be returned to standard in minutes.
