  • Which file formats are compatible with Vendio Image Hosting?
At Vendio, we classify images into two categories according to file size:
    1. Standard images - image files with a maximum file size of 500 KB. Standard images can be in JPG, GIF, PNG, and BMP formats.
    2. ZoomStream images - image files with a maximum file size of 15 MB. Buyers are sent an initial view of your image (to allow for a quick download), but they are able to zoom in to see extraordinary details, which wouldn't be possible with a Standard image. ZoomStream images can only be in JPG format. Learn more about ZoomStream images.
We also provide two desktop applications with bulk uploading capability:
    1. XPress Image Publisher - bulk uploader for Windows XP. Learn more and download XPress Image Publisher.
    2. Sales Manager Pro - desktop listing tool that bulk uploads images attached to listings. Sales Manager Pro is incompatible with GIF files.
In general, we recommend saving your images in JPG format since it is the most Web-compatible format.

  • How do I upload my Standard or ZoomStream images?
To upload your Standard or ZoomStream images, follow the steps outlined below:

    1. Access the Online Uploader
    • Login, and click the Image Hosting tab.
    • Click the ‘Upload Images’ button to access the Online Uploader.
    • Or, select ‘Upload Images’ from the Jump to dropdown menu located in the upper right of most pages.
    • If you are uploading Standard images, remain on the page. If you are uploading ZoomStream images, select the ZoomStream Images radio button. This will take you to the ZoomStream Uploader.
    2. Create a new folder to upload to (for Standard images only)
    • On the Upload Standard Images page, enter a name for your folder in the ‘Create New Folder’ field, or simply leave the default name.
    • Click the ‘Create’ button.

Note: The suggested folder name is controlled by your folder naming preference. See Setting Your Folder Preferences to learn how to change this.
    3. Select your files and upload
    • Increase the number of upload fields on the page if necessary by selecting the number from the ‘Show upload fields’ dropdown at the top left of the page. You can upload as many as 50 images at once.
    • Click the first Browse button. In the dialog box that appears, navigate to the folder containing your image, select your image, then click Open.
    • Rename the image if you want by editing the corresponding name in the Image Name field (you do not need to type the file extension as part of the file name).
    • For Standard Images, select the folder you want to upload to.
    • Repeat these steps for each additional image. It is not necessary to fill in all upload fields.
    • When you have finished selecting all your images, click the ‘Upload’ button. You will see the status of each image as it’s being uploaded.
    • When uploading is complete, you will be shown a confirmation page.
    • If you have uploaded any images with the same names as ones already in your account, you will be given several choices: keep the auto-created name, rename it to something else, or replace the existing image online. To keep the auto-created name, take no additional action. To rename it, type in a new name. To replace the existing image, select the Replace option.
    • To leave the confirmation page and save any rename or replace selections, click the ‘Upload More’ button, or click the ‘Done’ button.

  • How do I attach an image to an existing auction?
To attach an image to an existing auction, follow these steps:

    • Select the checkbox(s) of the image(s) you want to attach to your existing auction, and click the 'Attach' or 'Attach With Counter' button.
    • On the following page, select the auction site from the dropdown menu, and click the 'Existing Auction' radio button.
    • If eBay is your selected auction site, enter your auction number on the following page (you must have your eBay ID on file in the Auction Site Accounts section of My Account). If you have selected another auction site, copy and paste the HTML code into the listing description of the listing form.

  • My images are too big for Standard images - what can I do?
Your images must be under 500 KB each in order to be uploaded as Standard images. If you have larger images, we recommend one of two options:
    1. Upload them as ZoomStream images. Buyers are sent an initial view of your image (to allow for a quick download), but they are able to zoom in to see extraordinary details, which wouldn't be possible with a Standard image. To upload ZoomStream images, login, click the Image Hosting tab, then click the ‘Upload Images’ button. On the following page, select the ‘ZoomStream Images’ radio button, which will take you to the ZoomStream Uploader. Learn more about ZoomStream images.
    2. If you prefer to upload Standard images under 500 KB, please check our image sizing tutorial for tips on image resizing. We recommend keeping your Standard images below 100 KB, if at all possible, to reduce page loading time for your buyers.

  • Can I rename my image file names?
Yes, you can rename image file names prior to upload on the Standard and ZoomStream Upload pages. On these pages, as you add images to upload, simply overwrite the original file name that appears in the Image Names column (you do not need to type the file extension as part of the file name). Images that have already been uploaded cannot be renamed.

  • Can I apply a Watermark to specific images only?
Watermarking is a global setting that applies your watermark to all images in your account (with the exception of Zoomstream Images, which cannot be watermarked by our system). At this time, there is no way to only apply your watermark to specific images.

  • Can I apply a Watermark to my Zoomstream Images?
Watermarking is not available for Zoomstream Images at this time. If you want to watermark your Zoomstream Images, you should apply your own watermark prior to uploading ZoomStream Images.

  • My file names are numerical - can I rename them?
At this time, there is no way to rename your files. The system is set up so each uploaded image is given a numerical file name, which is assigned on the fly. The best way to keep track of your images is to write a list of image numbers and corresponding auction numbers.

  • Can I use image hosting with WebTV?
Due to the technical limitations imposed by the WebTV platform, our Web site does not support WebTV. We strongly recommend WebTV users upgrade to one of our supported browsers and platforms before using Vendio.

  • The eBay listing form in Image Hosting freezes, or will only partially display. Why?
The problem you are experiencing is most likely related to the WebTV platform, which Vendio does not actively support.

eBay has increased the number of categories on their site, and we frequently update the category list on the image hosting listing page to match eBay's category tree. This has resulted in some WebTV units being unable to display the list and/or listing page because of the large list of categories.

You can work around this problem by listing on eBay directly, and using our system to host your images. Once your listing is active on eBay, simply select 'existing auction' rather than 'new auction' from the drop-down menu in image hosting. The images will be automatically attached to your auction under the description.

  • I am trying to upload images, but the browser hangs, or it times out. What can I do?
The first thing to check is image size. Make sure that your images are under 100 KB (we recommend 40 - 60 KB for optimal uploading and viewing). If your images are too large in kilobytes, you may have trouble uploading them. If your images are reasonably sized, and you are uploading multiple images at a time, try reducing the number of images you are uploading.

Try clearing your browser cache and history, as a full browser cache can affect system performance. Also, close all unnecessary applications other than your browser - especially applications that may transfer data (such as sound or video files) over the internet. Follow the directions below on clearing the cache in Internet Explorer, Netscape, and the AOL browser. These directions are based on later browser versions, and may vary from the version you are currently using.

    • To clear the cache in Internet Explorer, click the "Tools" option in the top menu bar, and then click "Internet options..." In the Internet options window, there will be a "temporary Internet files" box. Click the "delete files" button, then click OK in the pop-up window. You should also clear the history. In the "history" box, click "clear history" and then OK in the pop-up window. Your cache will now be empty.
    • To clear the cache in Netscape, click "edit" on the top menu bar, then click "preferences". In the preferences window, you will see a menu to the left of the window in a white area. Double-click on "advanced". This will bring up a sub-menu with a cache option. Click "cache". You will see some buttons to the right of the screen now - click both the "clear memory cache" and "clear disk cache" buttons. Now click OK on the bottom of the screen.
    • To clear the cache in the AOL browser, click the MY AOL button in the menu at the top of the browser. Choose "preferences". From the preferences window, click the WWW button - this will open the AOL Internet properties window. Under Temporary Internet Files, there will be a "delete files" button. Click this button. You will get a prompt asking if you are sure you want to delete all temporary Internet files. Click "OK". You should also clear the history, which is right below the Temporary Internet Files. Click "OK" at the prompt, and your cache will be cleared.
If you are still having trouble uploading your images, please contact us.

  • I uploaded my images, but I only see a red x or broken image icon. Why?
This problem can be caused by any of the following:
    • Your image editor may be saving images in a proprietary jpeg format that is not web-compatible. Adobe Photoshop may cause problems for some users, due to the proprietary jpeg format. Some versions of Photoshop will save two copies of an image, one web-compatible and the other not. The web-compatible image may have the word "copy" or "alias" in the file name. Check your file and see if there are two copies - if there are, try uploading the alias image file.
    • Your image may be saved in a format other than jpeg. You cannot change a file format simply by changing the extension. If you have a file named picture.ppt, and you change it to picture.jpg, that does not change the image to a jpeg format. If your image editor does not have a "save as" jpeg option, you might consider investing in a mid-level image editor that will allow you to save jpeg images in a standard, web-compatible format.
    • You might have some browser control software installed on your computer. This type of software may affect your ability to view images on the internet.
    • You might have your "view images" browser setting unchecked. Make sure you set your browser to view images and/or web graphics.
    • You might have some ad-blocking software installed on your system. This type of software can also affect your ability to view images on the internet.
    • Your ISP might be having difficulty accessing our site. You might want to contact your ISP to have them perform a trace to our site.

  • I attached an image, but the camera icon on eBay is not displayed. Why?
In order to enable the camera icon, there must be an image URL in the "add a picture" field at the time that you list your auction. If you list your auction first and add an image after the auction is active, the picture icon will not show up. If you list your auction through our image hosting service and select your image as you create your listing, you don't have to worry about this - the camera icon will automatically be enabled.

Note also, the camera icon will not be displayed in your seller's list. This icon is only displayed in a search list.

  • I selected the eBay gallery as an option, but eBay tells me that the image is in the wrong format. What can I do?
When you select the "Add my item to the Gallery" option on our listing form, you must also select an image from the pull-down menu underneath this option. If you don't select an image, by default the cleardot.gif that we use as a placeholder is submitted to eBay instead of your image url.

You can obtain the correct URL by following the steps below:

    • Login, and click the Image Hosting Tab.
    • On the Image Hosting homepage, identify your image and click on its file name.
    • On the following page, place your cursor over the image and right-click (this will provide you with the URL).
    • If you are using Netscape, choose the "copy image location" option (the image url will be copied onto the clipboard, and can then be pasted into the eBay correction form) -or-
    • If you are using Internet Explorer, choose the "properties" option (you can copy and paste the url from the properties box into the eBay correction form).

  • How do I "copy and paste" text?
To copy and paste, first highlight the text you want to copy. Do this by positioning your cursor at the beginning of the sentence or text block you want to copy. Click your mouse button and drag the cursor to the end of the line you want to copy, or drag across and down if copying a block of text. When all the text you want to copy is highlighted, release your mouse button. Now, press the "Ctrl" button and the "c" button simultaneously. This will copy the text onto your Windows clipboard.

To paste the copied text, simply position your cursor where you want the text pasted, and press the "Ctrl" button and the "v" button simultaneously. This will paste the copied text from the clipboard.
