If anyone is trying to get you removed from AW, the one doing it best is yourself, Helen. Can any of you honestly name any President or politician on the national level who was above lying in a self serving way?
This is not the profession of saints and moralists. You have to be willing to paint the opposition with a tar brush and cut deals and send men to their deaths to have a shot at the office. Not for the squemish and hand wringers.
I would not accept the job on a silver platter. I'd rather sell drugs on the street corner. I'd sleep better at night.

Gravid what you state is basically true, so why canonize an SOB as being a fine human being and more when the facts show just how LOW morally this one in particular has been. The point being the Publishers are in for a rude awakening, there are so many people who have been Clintoned to death, they don't give a rat's patootie for his take on his years as President...they lived it and heard about it, read about it and he just won't go away. The very fact that "he ran circles around the Republicans, [sic] "outsmarted", to quote krs, with his pants at half staff thatis "amazing"

Gravid, Your post is so true. I would love to be able to forget the useless bombings and killings that took place in other nations to take our mind off of Monica. How many innocent people have to die for a cover-up? Does any one remember Vince Foster?

Zilvy - Yes, the Vince Foster issue. I believe he was an honest person who was ready to spill the beans on the Clintons....and somebody saw to it that he couldn't.
They didn't nick-name clinton 'slick willie' for no reason. He and Hillary were involved in so many situations of underhanded actions, but in one way or the other, they managed to 'slide' right out of them. The two of them are probably the most corrupt people in politics.
I also loved how the clintons used the IRS to audit any and all who publicly said anything negative about Clinton.
I also enjoyed reading the book "Unlimited Access" written by a former FBI agent who, amoung other things, shared how the Clintons wouldn't allow all of the normal security checks to be made on their White House staff. It's common that the FBI do background checks on all who work closely with the presidents, but Hillary wouldn't allow it. The book shares all the reasons why. Most wouldn't have passed the okay of the FBI. Turns out many had 'undesirable' backgrounds. It was the same way when they were in Arkansas.
And gravid would be President Carter. I think he's the most honest and moral president we've had in my lifetime. It's a shame we couldn't say that about more of them.

Since Bush has been in office, we're all at our maximum doses zilvy....doubling up would kill us, but at least we have that option if Bush doesn't get us first!

Angelwoman - Yes, that happened twice when clinton wanted to avert the public's attention away from himself.
Our son was/is in the military and my husband and I talked about it often. We were very worried. Especially during the East Timor situation as his unit was soooo close to being called into action, and we felt it was only to divert attention from himself.

Linda_K, not to undermine your sense of worry as a parent, but that's what being a soldier is. Only the most brave can be called a soldier because it depends on a person having to make some terrible choices in order to preserve our freedom. Our freedom depends on our allies and our commitments to help their struggles for freedom.
To say that a President would divert attention from himself by calling soldiers into action makes the whole military look like a joke, which I'm sure you don't think it is.

My parents fought during WW11, our very close friends fought and died in Vietnam, I'm well aware of what a soldier is.

Clinton: What would be the most realistic way to get the public's attention diverted away from me?
Clinton's Advisors: Let's pretend there's a war somewhere and send troops, tanks, etc. We'll pay CNN to televise it so it'll look real and you'll look like a hero.
.....definately worth looking into.
