Some great posts, bunnicula. It's hard to use reason when discussing such an emotional issue, but you sure managed it. As I've said before, Terri has a tough row to hoe on this board. She has a lot of courage, as you pointed out...but, I continue to fail to see any racism.

Things have gotten a lot better in the South.
If everyone is not comfortable socially just being able to use public facilities and not fear being lynched is a big stride in one generation. I don't see them making that kind of progress in the Balkans between their groups.

When we lived in North Carolina my Dad had a black helper at work and told him stop at my house on the way home and I will give you that book we were talking about.
The helper was dubious and asked if it was OK to stop. My Dad insisted.
When He got his book and left there were immediatly two neighbor men at our door angry my Dad had brought a "N-----" in the neighborhood.
My Dad reached in the back of his jeans and came out wit a big single action Colt .45 which he cocked, and asked if either of them could not live with him having ANYBODY he wanted to his house.
I was sitting on the couch saying "Oh please, please don't answer that one wrong." to myself. They got all apologetic.
I just don't think that would happen today
in most places. There still might be resentment but not confrontation.

Hmmm, interesting theory on why Blacks say, "Where do you stay?". But it's wrong. Nice try though. I won't be peeking back in this thread to see if she ever does get the right answer. Pretty amusing to watch a southern white lady, rattle off statistics and come up with "All you ever wanted to know about Black people, but were afraid to ask". Thanks for the good laugh this morning, I needed it.

Continuing to fail to see racism is a large part of the problem, isn't it?

Bunnicula, you refered to baduizm as a 'he'. Baduizm is a 'she' - just for information.

If Terri did not face the problem of living in a state which has swung to a black majority population would this thread be in play at all?

Is it only me who feels that a continuous need to address racial issues is racism in and of itself? It's an obsession in Mississippi, it seems.

I'm in a very diverse area but don't think in racial terms at all. My only complaint is with AHs, and they come in all colors.

krs: Thank you--for some reason I'd thought Baduizm had said he..uh, *she*...was a man sometime in the past.

You ask: Is it only me who feels that a continuous need to address racial issues is racism in and of itself? It's an obsession in Mississippi, it seems.

Ah, no. Unless, that is, posters like HJW are also living in Mississippi. Seems to me that HJW brings race into almost every thread she goes on. So you're saying that both JT *and* HJW are racists?

If Terri did not face the problem of living in a state which has swung to a black majority population would this thread be in play at all?

Perhaps. Sooner or later everything seems tocome up in the RT. Would we have a thread on elder abuse if someone wasn't having an issue on it?

The only blatant predjudice I see here appears to be against white, southern women who have opinions that diverge from what is commonly accepted as PC on this board.

We can agree about the AHs.

Hello Baduim...yes, I am aware of who Evers was. I also know he was murdered right in front of his kids, on his down doorstep. I thuoght terri was talking about one of his sons who she had a business lunch with?

Going back to read now..

Amen

If Terri is to be made mockery of for saying she helped with the Evers picnic and it is thought to be only announced by her for kudos, then perhaps we should all slap ol' helen on the back for her statement of helping her "black friend pick cotton so her family could eat". Why, thats mighty kind, dontcha think?

I was at an auction and a fellow came in and said do you know Martin and where I can find him and I looked up and he was standing about 60 foot away between Gary and Joe. I pointed and said right over there - the guy in the middle in the blue suit. He looked at me weird and said the colored guy between the two white ones? I said yeah. He looked put out with me and said - "Why didn't you just say so. "I was not trying to be PC I just did not think to ID him that way real quick. It was more to the point he was in the middle and he had on this pale powder blue suit that really stood out. The guy obviously thought I was trying to make a statement but I was not. I think he was making a statement though.

I have a very good friend who I have known for years. She goes by the name of Nubian Queen when she shows her artwork, which consists of African masks she makes herself (does wonderful work too...wish I could afford to purchase some, but each piece is over 800 bucks). The name fits her. She is very tall, very statuesque, very black and exceptionally beautiful. I wonder what society would think if I went by the name White Queen? (She and I have this dicussion all the time. She laughs at this question, and says the name is fine...just dont announce it in an all black neighborhood where groups of people wear different colored bandanas)

Unless you are "very tall, very statuesque, very white and exceptionally beautiful. I wonder what society would think if I went by the name White Queen?"
I guess society would join your friend in laughing at you.

By the way, Hepburn, the sheer energy which you've exerted in support of the comment about Helen seems to make a truth of Helen's complaint that "Both Zilvy and Hepburn chase me around and I avoid their threads in order to avoid another confrontation" at least so far as her comment concerned you, wouldn't you say?

This is not a moderation concern. I want to know if I can post links to active (or closed) AW threads. I would think everyone will need to know about this apparent change in board policy.

I think we all need to know if linked posts that other posters do, is allowed or not. If not, then krs just did a big boo boo quoting what I said. If so, then my warning is no longer valid. No, this is not about moderation. Its asking if quotes from active links are allowed.

"Where do you stay?". But it's wrong.

Antiker, Can you please tell me then? When I have inquired of various people, this is the response that I have always gotten. If it is incorrect then I would like the correct information.

No change in policy. hepburn, I explained to you in email why this one brought a warning to you. I think you understand and no further explanation is necessary. But since this thread has become so disruptive and off topic, I have no choice except to lock it.
