"He has been adept in the art of reassuring public speech while devastating acts were being directed against his rivals (parties, unions, publishing houses, youth organizations). His enemies often fell out among themselves because they were lulled into underestimating his influence. One of the most interesting problems connected with propaganda and policy, not only under dictatorship, is the direct or inverse connection between words and deeds. Substantial concessions to the 'right' are often couched in the rhetoric of the 'left', and the policy of a minority may be adopted in the wrappings of a new vocabulary."

George Bush

Totally weird that this was written in 1936. Did Nostradamous have something to do with it.

Wasn't the election a sort of dictatorial
event that you would expect in a country like China.

With a little more pondering, we could fill in the other blanks...LoL

Every sentence that this fellow wrote in 1936 can be applied to Bush. It's amazing!!!

Just the first one for example...

"He has been adept in the art of reassuring public speech while devastating acts were being directed against his rivals (parties, unions, publishing houses, youth organizations)"

Ponderment...Although his speech is limited he has mastered the art of reassuring the people of America that he is too dumb to be harmful, while his corporate friends screw them left and right.

You can carry on and explain every statement with just a little pondering.

Hjw,

"Ponderment...Although his speech is limited he has mastered the art of reassuring the people of America that he is too dumb to be harmful, while his corporate friends screw them left and right."

Perhaps you could enlighten us on how the " corporate friends" are screwing the people of America. I am sure, we would all be interested in hearing about this.

Good Morning Tex, this strikes me as being more of a conumdrum than a ponderment! There will probably be "lynx" later...stay tuned!

You are getting your daily ration of rational!

Tex1

I could begin in alphabetical order and list all of the ways in which the Bush administration has abused the American public including major topics such as environmental polution, international relations, reneging on plans to improve the educational system, threats to social security that will especially affect poor people...the list is overwhelming and I could write all day about it. But that is not the topic.

Speaking of something suited to your mental capacity is beyond lil ole me, Tex1.

Hjw,

You made a broad, sweeping statement. Rather than listing more of the same, why don't you detail the legislation that GW has passed, that screws the American people. I am an "American people". I hate it when I'm getting the shaft, but I can't defend against it, if I don't know how it's being done.

Tex1

hmmmm...you may not be getting the shaft. Surely if you were, you would know it.

Maybe Zilvy is right. I have an answer here that is apparently not acceptable.
Maybe this ponderment is really a riddle or a "conundrum".

Maybe the correct answer is Mussolini, as Kraftdinner suggested.

I am on the verge of suspension, Tex1 and because right now,I have an overwhelming urge to tell you exactly what I think, I believe that it will be in my best interest
and yours to back out of this thread.

Please, feel free to exress yourself, in any way you feel proper. BTW, if you feel the need to answer my original question, I would still like to hear your thoughts.

Zilvy....LYNX? Pardon my ignorance, but what is that?

Hi Tex1 not ignorance at all...I just get into the "wildcat" mode sometimes. We have posters who insist on links to back up everything you say. Then there are those that read an insult into every post... even when it is not directed at them nor meant as an insult to anyone...those are the posters that read between the "Lions" as it were.

My little play on words...you have a good day and remember to breath deeply and listen to pleasant music to offsett the cacophony that magically leaps off these boards.

enlighten us on how the " corporate friends" are screwing the people of America.

How can raising the acceptable level of arsenic in drinking water help any body except a factory that is dumping the stuff?

How can doing away with testing to be sure the meat served to our kids is tested help anyone but a packing house?

I don't want me or my kids poisoned. If it's done in the name of Corporate Profits, it's wrong, and it's "screwing the public".

Sometimes, I even think I hear *shudder* Judge Judy talking...perhaps a glass of milk to calm my nerves. Course if you're lactose intolerent it doesn't help.

I find it very interesting that Microbes question has not been answered by our old

Even a "broad, sweeping answer" will be sufficient.

That answer was not intended to be as you say, "Verrrrry profound and intelligent!"

It was just lighthearted chat such as that with which you have achieved a distinguished and high degree of proficiency.

Hjw,

I am not on-line every minute. We rich 'publicans have to take care of our stocks and bonds.

Microbes....Your concerns are valid, but what do you know of the arsenic question. I have to plead total ignorance of the meat question, but I do have a little knowledge of the arsenic regulation.

Arsenic occurs naturally in water in some areas, both surface and sub-surface. The allowable for drinking water, since 1942, until Clinton's mandate of 2001, was fifty parts per billion. His fiat decreed that the standard should be ten parts per billion. GW reversed that rule back to the original standard. You and your kids are drinking the same water that you always have.

You may ask: What's wrong with ten parts per bilion. The answer to that is: Nothing...except that someone has to pay for the treatment of that water. Remember, the federal government is only going to set the standard. They are NOT going to pay to treat your drinking water. The instalation of the equipment and the cost of opperating that equipment would be borne by the various water treatmrnt plants. Since these are, for the most part publicly owned, the cost of TRILLIONS of gallons being treated would fall back on you, the user. All the water going thru a plant has to be treated, not just the drinking portion.

If fifty parts per billion is a health problem, why have not we all died since 1942. There is, also the problem, of actually being able to do the reduction. The more you remove, the harder it is to get what is left. The bottom line is: There was a large cost, with no benefit. You may find the attached LYNX interesting...nahhh, you won't. It's as dry as it gets, but read it anyway.

"GW reversed that rule back to the original standard."

I think that you'd find that he's reversed his own reversal to the Clinton safe standard if you go look.

Essentially admitting his own ignorance and acknowledging that Bill Clinton was right.

KRS,

If that is the case, he isn't poisoning the country, so, why are we having this discussion on arsenic?

Back to the meat standards: In my little 'ol school district, the Superintendent of schools is responsible for over-seeing food purchases. He reports to the school board. I have a couple of friends that are on the board, that have kids in these same schools. They tend to be a little fussy about what their kids are fed. If bad meat were served, there would be hell to pay, without the federal government being involved. Why is the president (Republican or Democrat) responsible for running our school systems. Don't like the way it is going in your schools? Run for the school board. It's not real hard to get elected in most areas, as it's a no pay, thankless job, that is considered a "your turn in the barrel" deal.

Who was insulted? Not me. Actually, I'm insult proof. The spoken, or written word is only a reflection on the speaker, or writter.

My typing finger doesn't spell well.
