He seems to want to make it his responsibility. He's pushing for nation wide testing of students. If he want's to push something from a federal level, I'd rather see it be testing the food my kids eat than the kids them selves.
If fifty parts per billion is a health problem, why have not we all died since 1942.
How many people have gotten cancer and died from cartingens <sp> in our water?

Please don't suspend HJW Pat. Even though she might get a bit mouthy at times (as we all do), her comments are still appreciated by some of us
P.S. Thanks for the correct spelling of Mussolini Helen!!
Nice try, but I never conceded that either standard was poisoning the country. If the old standard were killing droves of people, then shame on Clinton for allowing it for almost eight years.

Hi, Microbes
Sorry, I had to run off yesterday and didn't get to respond to your post. I agree that arsenic is bad. The question is: What level is tolerable, and can we afford to lower the levels to be totally safe.
Your second link is to the "National Resources Defense Council" site. This is hardly a credable source. Their cancer risk table is a bunch of garbage, with no basis in fact. Read carefully how they reached those conclusions. I won't insult you by finding some site by the "National Assoc. of Manufacturers" or other non-credable source. As best I can find out the EPA is still studying the issue.
Of course, arsenic is produced in a lot of manufacturing processes, but, I think, you will find those are regulated by the EPA. If you remove all of the arsenic from drinking water, you still have to do something with it. I prefer to not have it dumped in my back yard.
The point is that this is a complex problem and going off half cocked is not the answer. Clinton sat on the problem for eight years, so to accuse GW of poisoning the country, with arcenic, is rubish. In the long run, name calling and finger pointing accomplishes nothing.

Of course. The question is, what are these regulation going to be. If GW backed off this one, that's good. The problem I see is he (or his people) try to sneak things by us, and only when they get caught at it, do the back off.

Agreed. No point in removing it, only to dump it right back in the ground. Disposal of any hazard waste is a tricky thing, but that doesn't mean we just say the heck with it.

HELEN: Stop trying to get kicked off! If yoou do get yourself kicked off, then the bullies won. While this may be only a fun diversion, you will remember what happened. Just stay rational, logical, and adult no matter what fortune slings at you here. Please.
As for me, I enjoy having Tex1 onboard. He insists on adult, rational conversation and that's what I enjoy as well (although Tex1 is a bit impatient about receiving replies). After researching Global Warming at his (her?) and roofguy's insistance to find out what the deal was, my position shifted a bit and that's what I think benefits me the most in being here. That if I come here and vent my spleen and I learn nothing of value, then my time here is ultimately wasted.

It amuses me that they are worried about parts per BILLION of arsenic and then deliberatly pump florides which are nearly as bad a poison into the water on purpose.
Here is an interesting reversal of opinion from a dental professional who advocated floridation.

I've worked on control systems in water treatment plants. I've been in some that would really disgust you. Believe me ignorance is bliss on tap water. Sure they could remove all impurities in the water, but I doubt you'd be able to afford it for anything but drinking.
I've also been at pristine Alaskan streams where the water looked as clear as if had been distilled. I knew not to drink it without running it through a pump filter though. Beaver Fever can't just make you sick, it has killed people. Sometimes ignorance isn't bliss.
