Have you noticed that this place sort of dies after 11 pm EST? New posts trail off to a trickle. Used to be an around-the-clock board. Now not even the people who "stay up the latest" stay up anymore. What's up? (or not up, as the case may be).

You don't suppose some of us found lives (or night lives anyway) do you?

(I'm never here this late so I didn't notice the sidewalks rollin' up in any case. )

Yoo Hoo Spaz...I'm here, I finally tore myself away from the Condit "Interview?" then the courtside color, then the windup on the news, then the analysis by young student attorneys...thought I was gonna fall asleep before the weather finally came on. What a crock, and no I really didn't watch the play I am waiting for the Book. (NOT)

Im here and surfing ebay looking for a tapestry for my walls at the same time.

Come to think of it, it is alittle quiet here lately. The calm before the storm?

ShadowCat,

LTNS. I was just thinking about you in the "Worst TV programs" thread. Can you believe someone had the audacity to call Star Trek "Star Wars wannabes?"

hepburn,

It's not that you're killing threads, it's just that the place is mostly deserted around midnight.

Spaz: I saw that. I couldn't decide whether to laugh or snort derisively. Guess the person didn't realize that ST-the original ST-came first(by many years).

So do your local sidewalks roll up or stay down? Mine are currently rolled tighter than my grannycat's haircurlers.

Real world side walks here roll-up as soon as dusk begins. Indeed our favourite local cafe mentioned to us yesterday that they'd be changing their hours with the time change since there simply isn't any business to be had after dark. You have to remember though that excitement here is when, as happened last year, a gang of thieves target Monitor heaters in unattended homes. That little spate of robberies filled many a front page. (I personally found it more exciting when our local lodge was (again) busted for having slot machines in the basement. They were turned in by a wife who was quoted in the paper as saying, "Well, he just didn't bring home money no more 'cause he was always playing those damn slots."

Some people, contrary to suspicions otherwise, do have "real lives". Some of us even sell fulltime for a living (not as common as it used to be) and pay attention to our families. Cuts drastically into RT time.

I've found my level of desire to be here increases with the amount of people that actually comment or post to me. Maybe if there's only a small group of people that are talking to others in the same small group, some of the rest have... slowly started drifting away.

LOL, bitsandbobs.

I wish I could drift away on a sailboat on the ocean instead of working so much. Hows life downunder lately for you?

I meant to add to my earlier post, that I'd personally felt slightly turned off by the number of threads the last few months focusing soley on political issues or rancorous discussions of whose remarks were racist or racially motivated, or not racist, as the case may be. That's just a quick personal impression I haven't counted the number of threads or anything.

Am I remembering correctly that previously there was a wider variety of threads, for a variety of interests of posters, ranging from serious to light? Variety is the spice of life to me personally.

Hi enchanted, Sorry to wander away for a while.
I think that you're right. There is not the variety of threads that we used to have.
There are probably many reasons why but the drop off has been noticeable since the beginning of A/W's charging fees and users drifting away to other venues.
Also, the change in moderation policy has had a negative effect. Things are a bit sterile these days. Although I didn't do too much stirring, some of the old board wars were better than any entertainment on TV.
Also, I think with the onset of the cooler months in America & Europe, perhaps more posters will be spending more time at their computors again and this will bring about a larger number of posts.

Bob, Downunder but never down.

It is funny you should say that about the colder months in America and people spending more time at home and on their computers Bob, I was just saying that to someone the other day.

I also think that a lot of people can be turned off by all the political threads. It seems to be beating the same old bush over and over again. I know it is a big turn off for me personally. Who wants to see that everytime you come in, it would be like Spaz's dread of seeing the WSUTL thread all the time. LOL

The trick is to avoid getting rolled up with it.

But it's not just the weekends anymore, hepburn.

BTW, loved this:

Does this mean those of us who find time to post here are bad people?

What? bad people? I thought that was part of the discussion on the other thread.

I don't think anybody at AW or most any other place is a bad peep!

My sidewalk isn't rolled up, somebody spoke too soon.

hey there nettak. Wanna come on out on Bob's sailboat? Looks downright beautiful.

I pose the opposite question, Spaz.

Do you mean that people that can't find or don't have the time to post here regularly are bad people? Just checking, that wouldn't be something I would normally think is a belief of yours.

Of course not. But then I didn't imply that those who don't post here regularly mustn't work hard selling fulltime or care about spending time with their families -- which is what you implied about those who do post here regularly.

No I did NOT Spaz and I'm quite sorry you read it that way.

What I said was the people who were NOT posting here might not be posting here for valid reasons. I said nothing negative about anyone who IS posting here.

Please don't read something into my words that isn't there.

Hell, I will roll another one...er...um...I mean, I wont roll up

I just listed a pile of stuff, and had the time to pop in too, so I guess I fall into some category not mentioned yet as to RL versus posting here. Am I good, or what?
