Painful I was pretty much ok afterwards, until later that night. Then it started spasming again. *OUCHIE* I hope the doctor calls me tomorrow with the results so I'm not on pins & needles all weekend!

Hi Pharlap, I can understand your Dad thinking that you were making it up about Shirl, I still feel like it isn't true. Did you see poor Red, he was supposed to do an interview yesterday on the radio, and he called it off because he kept breaking down. They were so close, and my heart goes out to Red. You know this might sound funny but I thought about Red before I thought about Shirl's wife Sue. I think that's because I can never think of Shirl without thinking about Red and SkyHooks.

You are right about a vaccine for the Meningococcal, it seems strange to me that they can vaccinate a whole private school (Nudgee), including not only all the students but the staff and the parents. Yet the rest of the poor population gets nothing. They give out precautionary medication after a case has been diagnosed but by then it could be too late. I agree I would like a choice about the vaccine. This year is not even 3/4 of the way through and already the death count from this disease is far higher than last year. In the last 2 weeks here in Queensland alone there have been 4 deaths from it and they are the ones' I have heard about on the news, god know how many others there have been that we do not know about.

On a brighter side, the little boy (Mitchell) was stabilized and has been taken off the life support system and taken to the Mater Childrens Hospital, he was in Logan Hospital to start with but could not be taken to the Childrens Hospital until he had been stabilized and his blood pressure came down.

He is still not out of the woods yet and even though he is off the life support system he is still in a critical condition. It is just so sad.

Zilvy yes you are right, cotton candy is the same as fairy floss. I should have remembered that you don't call it the same name as we do. Oh well you live and learn. LOL Our strawberry ice creams are in a cone and usually have strawberries in the base of the cone and the ice cream is white on one side and pink on the other side then on the top is a dollop of cream with a big strawberry sitting on the top. It is a show special. Yum yum.

Hi Mouse how did you go at the doctors?

I forgot to say OMG Pharlap what do you mean you have never been to the Ekka. Everyone goes to the Ekka at least once in a lifetime and you have lived this long and never been. You have missed out on all the dust and dirt and scumbags and standing in chuckup/cow poop or someones dagwood dog or have someone throw something down on you from the chairlift ect. Good lord girl do you know what you have been missing all these years.

Oh well there is always next year. I myself have not been for the last 5 years and don't really think I have missed much. I might go to the Beenleigh show when it is on in a month or so, I will see how I feel at the time.

Hi Netta! The ultrasound was quick, but painful. I don't know the results yet, I'm hoping he calls me tomorrow!

I feel horrible about that little boy. My sister died from spinal meningitis when she was 6 months old and my niece when she was 4 months old. I believe that is the nastiest form and children rarely survive when they're that young. (I could be wrong and/or have old information though.)

I have some pictures of poor Pogo after her surgery. I'm just going to post links though as they aren't tiny and they do show her stitches (don't want to offend the sensitive types! )

Here's Charlie checking Pogo over and giving her some reassurance:
http://www.surfbest.net/~mouseslayer/Charlie%20&%20Pogo%20post%20surgery.jpg

Here she is under the desk looking all stoned (they gave her pain pills ):
http://www.surfbest.net/~mouseslayer/Pogo%20post%20surgery%20stoned%203.jpg

Here she is with her Elizabethan collar on, doesn't she look thrilled?
http://www.surfbest.net/~mouseslayer/Pogo%20with%20E%20collar%203.jpg

Not a happy camper
http://www.surfbest.net/~mouseslayer/Pogo%20with%20E%20collar%204.jpg

She just couldn't get the hang of wearing this thing. Here she is up against the recliner. (She was acting so pathetic that right after this picture I gave in and took it off )
http://www.surfbest.net/~mouseslayer/Pogo%20with%20E%20collar%201.jpg

Here's a picture of her belly. She had 2 lumps that I didn't like the looks of, so I took her back in to the vets. The vet said it's a reaction to the stitches in the inner layers, like her body was treating them as foreign objects, and that is was common. None of mine had ever had that before and I was really worried! But they look much better now. (Yes, that's me holding her )

Sorry I skipped out last night on you guys. I feel a bit of a fool actually... I heard thunder so I quickly disconnected from the internet (I've already had one modem blow up in a thunderstorm before). It wasn't until I'd packed everything away that I realised that it wasn't thunder at all. It was just the fireworks from the show that I was hearing! Sorry I didn't reconnect to continue chatting but I couldn't face having to reconnect everything again. You see - the phone point is at the other end of the house and I have to use a HUGE phone extension cord to reach it.

Mouse - I hope your results come back ok. Mine didn't need coming out in the end - it was just stressed induced. I love the photo of Pogo with the collar up against the couch. Very cute! (although I'm sure she didn't think so!)

Nettak - that's right - never been to the Ekka! What you've told me sounds like what everyone else has told me. I've been told that it's just like the GC Show only bigger and dirtier!

LOL Zilvy!! I absolutely love your sense of humor my friend.

Guess what I had for dinner tonight...meatloaf! Hmmm, now why is that special you ask? Well, where does one normally cook a meatloaf?? I'll help ya out here, an oven perhaps?! Need I say more??? Brownies tomorrow!!!!!

Thanks for the mousie Tigerlady! How've ya been? Still workin' & staying busy?

I'm still hanging in here & haven't heard from the doctor yet. So I guess I will have to wait until next week. Pogo is still healing. She has managed to get a stitch or two undone, but I just can't bear to put that thing back on her! (Even if I did laugh my head off the whole 5 minutes she did have it on. )

Whoo Hoo it's Tigerlady. It is good to see you again, you must still be working far too hard, you don't get in very often to see us. Come back and see us again very soon.

Mouse isn't it the absolute best feeling when your new stove is installed and working. I was without an oven for 3 years when we first moved in here, and everyday I wished I had a new oven. We finally got a new one installed only last year and I have used it almost everyday since. For the first couple of months it was always cooking something almost non stop. But the novelty will wear off, just take my word for it, okay. LOL

Although I must admit that I have been giving the oven a fair workout lately. I have been trying a lot of new recipes, and I am cooking and freezing. I have made 3 huge lasanges' in the last 3 days and only managed to get 1 into the freezer because I have a hoard of growing boys that seem to know just when to invade my kitchen. Everytime I make little cakes to put away for later they seem to disappear before my eyes, even before they have time to cool down. And we have a "not me" in our house, everyone says it's not me, when I ask who ate them.

Bob I have been meaning to ask you about your garden. How did all your plants survive after you had to move some of them when your new neighbour chopped down the trees??

Pharlap was that you I saw chasing those male competitors in the Goodwill Games Surf Lifesaving Competition on the Coast today. LOL Some of them were pretty cute.

Felix I have one thing to say to you. Eat the rat! LOL

Hi Pharlap you came in while I was typing.

It was for the fastest response in life saving. They time the reflex and how fast the lifesavers respond to things. The NZ and the Sth African guys were the best, but Australia came in first for everything else, and the Australian girls were just fantastic.

Have you watched any of the pool events being held up here, I thought about getting tickets for the swimming but didn't bother and now I wish I had of. But at least I can see it all on TV. It has been fantastic, and I think we have proven to be the best in the pool.

Okay my turn to fess up, I don't know anything about horse racing. I have only once been into a TAB and even then I had to ask someone else to put a bet on for me. Come Melbourne Cup Day if I bet at all it is usually only if someone else is placing the thing for me. LOL

Now swimming and Athletics is another thing all together, I just love to watch them. When Keiren Perkings was swimming the 1500 my daughter used to leave the room, because I get so caught up in it and I scream and yell with the best of them....just call it good old Aussie Pride.

I am off for now, but I might get back later and see if anyone else is around.

Talk to you later Pharlap.

My Dad went to the races with relatives and bet on the daily double. When he hit and collected a couple hundred to one he quit and never went back - said he would stay ahead of the game.
I have a friend however who claims he makes money pretty steady at the ponies, but he has to stay current not only on the horses but the riders.

Hi guys! Well, I've been pretty sick lately... so sick that I've actually started going to sleep... EARLY. *gasp* I've been going to bed around 9:30 or 10pm, and then even sleeping a lot during the day as well. *ugh* Feeling much better today though. Thanks goodness. It usually works out that I'm sick whenever the hubby has a weekend off. But, I haven't done anything these last 2 weeks, I really need to get back to selling now - so hopefully I'll STAY feeling better.

pharlap I just LOVE horses... I was absolutely obsessed with them when I was little. I would draw them all the time, everywhere... usually during class. That first one was my favorite, too.

Well, I've got to get back to the hubby... he's going to wonder where I've got off to if I don't get off of here soon. I'll try to at least stop in during the day and say "Hi"!

NettaK Felix ate the "Chocolate Mousse" it was a "Mad" experience!! I have a not me in my house and my household consists of Hubby and Tigger! I constantly have to speak to Tigger about turning the underwear inside out in the laundry basket, eating all the planned overs meant for the next day's lunch (mine), etc. Next cat is gonna get trained properly as I know there is no hope for the Husband!
Mouse I am so happy for you and your oven....I just hope the heat has subsided out your way so that you can enjoy haveing the oven on!
I just love it when the seasons change here in New England, there is always a favorite dish to be made to suit the weather. Soon it will be Apple Crisp and Corn Chowder season, followed by Italian Sausage Soup and then on to hearty lamb or beef stews with savory dumplings. Thankfully my husband loves that kind of food...so it is a joy to cook.

OMG, I love my new range soooooo much! It's awesome!! It preheats in less than 5 minutes and beeps when it's ready. It has a built in timer and a setting to turn it on at a preset temp for a preset length of time (sort of like a Crock pot, but automatic). The knobs turn so easily too! The oven is roomy and has a great light so you can actually see in. Oh my, I think I'm in love!! Now if I can just get my dishwasher to die a permanent death...LOL!

Zilvy, the temps have come down a hair, but we're still over 100 degrees. But, the new range doesn't leak the heat like my old one did, it's amazing! We've used it for dinner 2 nights in a row now and I baked some brownies tonight too.

Sorry for taking off last night Pharlap & Netta, I pooped out kinda early. I too have been going to bed earlier lately. Besides, it took me almost 3 hours last night to get my pain meds because the pharmacy was being a pain in the a$$. My gall bladder is acting up again tonight, (I guess it doesn't like lasagna ) so I'm not sure how late I'll be up...

*Edited to add I totally forgot to say something yesterday about the installation of the range. A friend of hubby's (who spoke at our wedding) is the one who installed the range. And our next door neighbor helped out with the gas pipe fittings (it was beyond friend's expertise). Both of them absolutely rejected any money, even though we'd gotten a little from the warranty company to get it installed. Normally, it should have cost us around $300. We are so thankful for the help of friend's (yes, that means you guys too!) & neighbors, they truly are a blessing!

We did have the friend over for dinner last night for an old fashioned meatloaf. I plan to bake our neighbor some goodies, especially since his wife had major surgery last month. I'm sure they could use a treat! And of course I got thank you cards for both, good manners ya know. I feel so blessed!

Zilvy - I have never heard of italian sausage suop - wanta sketch out a reciepe?

I was at pharmacy #1 for almost 2 hours waiting very patiently for the new, slower than a snail, pharmacist to even find my damn prescription! Oh he just irritates me. They screwed it up and called my doctor's office. The doctor's office I'm sure was confused & told them not to fill it until the 7th. Um, hello, why would he give me the prescription if I couldn't get it filled?? Tell me how that makes any sense, sheesh! So when he finally found it, I took it elsewhere and got it filled no problem. Imagine that!

All of this was because my insurance co. said I couldn't fill it for another 3 days. No big deal. The tech asked if I wanted to leave it and have it ready on the right day. I said yes, that was my mistake. What they did was some idiot called the doctor's office the next day (when they should have just left it alone), to see if I could get it filled. I'm sure judging by the date they said I couldn't get it filled until and by the fact I had picked up the script the day before, that the nurse thought I wanted a refill already (she's not too bright sometimes...). But considering this was Friday, late afternoon, when I found all of this out, I couldn't do anything until Tues. I sure wasn't going to go all weekend without them! The pharmacist said I'd have to come back the next day. I said no way, I'm not leaving without it! And I didn't.

Whew, sorry for the tirade! I guess I'm still a little fumed about it...I wonder if I can even figure out who the ding-dong was that even called the doctor's office.

Gravid I do understand what you mean by sketch out...but, I have a tendency to forget ingredients so I had to write this down. I first tasted something similar in a restaraunt chain and said I can make that and even better...According to the mister I was right.
Being a good cook ~ do what you will to make it YOUR OWN!!

Italian Sausage Soup

5 Italian Sausage Links (3 sweet, 2 Hot)
(These links are about the 3/4" dia-fat)
1 Med-large onion coarsley chopped
1/2 cup rice
1 pkg frozen chopped spinach
2 cups chopped canned garlic tomatoes
8 cups chicken broth (I use College Inn or Swanson low fat/sodium)
2 Beef bullion cubes
Basil or oregano

Saute onions til clear (not brown) add broth, bullion, tomatoes and sliced or crumbled nearly cooked sausage. Simmer for 1/2 to 3/4 hour, stirring occasionally. Add package of chopped frozen spinach, Basil or Oregano and simmer for another 20 minutes.
I usually make this a day ahead as the flavors are really great the 2nd day. There are only two of us so I usually freeze some for later.
Of Course you can add more sausage and vary the combination of hot/sweet - I precook the sausage nearly to completion in the microwave to eliminate 90 % of the fat. Then I either slice into rounds or skin and crumble the meat into the broth, etc.
[For even heartier soup you can add zucchini squash and carrots during the last 20 min]

I top this off with grated Mozarella cheese and serve with crusty bread and a tossed salad!

I am off to deliver a keyboard to a lady who bought it off eBay. I am suppossed to meet her at a Tim Horton's coffee shop. I will stop at McDonalds on the way. They are giving a million bucks a day away and 10 - $100,000 prizes each day for 5 days.
