spaz, if you meant me, I'm not trying to derail anything. I'm feeling kind of uneasy about the situation at hand and maybe saying things just for the cathartic value.

Sorry Spaz.
I have just had it hit me, this whole thing. Guess I have been sorta numb. I couldve stumped my toe and burst into tears and it went off because I havent let loose. But what did it for me, of all things, was the changing of the guard in England...them playing our national anthem instead of their own. Opened up the faucets so to speak.

Thanks for that link. Hadn't checked the Times today but the editorial expressed very compellingly the concerns of so many of us.

Time to get this thread back on track:
I'm watching CNN and they just showed footage of a somber-faced President Clinton down by the Armory in New York City today supporting the distraught people who are wandering around carrying pictures of their lost loved ones. He hugged them, he consoled them, he tried to give them hope. The footage was only two minutes long, but in that two minutes, IMHO, President Clinton seemed more in touch with what has really happened than the man sitting in the Oval Office today.

Thank you for the great description, Spaz...Mr. Clinton was always capable of great empathy, a beautiful quality, I feel.
I missed it, but will make it a point to catch the late PBS News.

Shosh,
They showed a couple of distraught women asking him, "Is there anything you can do to help me? Anything?" as they described their loved one and then they broke down sobbing against his chest. He just held them. His silence said so much more than any of the meaningless cliches coming out of Washington.

Spaz,
Bill Clinton is a wonderful human being and we may not see another President like him in our lifetime. As you said, in those very brief news bits, he expressed so much sincerity, understanding and at the same time addressed the problem of Muslims living in our country who may be victims of angry Americans. What a great man!

I never liked Bill Clinton, but I do not see where he did anything that would have caused this tragedy.I doesn't seem like it could have been stopped no matter what either President did.We do need to be behind this President in all the decisions he makes and support our Country.I'm sure Bill Clinton will do all he can to help with this tragedy.

I didnt see Clinton, but I havent been watching tv either...at least not for the past few hours. Been reading. But I always liked him, so it doesnt surprise me he did that.
If I had a choice of presidents for right now, this minute, it would be Kennedy. Second to him would be Clinton.
Not to derail, but Im having a helluva time getting in to AW. Whats with the slow loading lately?

This is a quote from the New York Times article provided earlier by Donny suggesting that Bush needs to be seen.
"The best way he can earn the country's confidence is by appearing frequently in public, and by not being afraid to answer questions. In the last two days, Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and Gov. George Pataki of New York have tirelessly made themselves available to an uneasy public that needed reassurance. Often it was enough to see them acknowledge that they did not know all the answers."

I have seen him on TV, in press conferences
today a couple times.
I am not sure what people need? for him to be on every hour? every 2 hours? I'm sure he has to be doing other things, like in meetings on what is going to happen next.
He is going to be in NY tommorow, to be with the Mayor and Gov. there, after a prayer service in D.C.

Rumsfeld on Larry King. He's changing the tone for the administration, sounds like. Would hardly entertain a discussion of whether a concerted strike designed to kill the guy, as might be done by a small clandestine team, could work. Instead it sounded like he is paving the way for a long term encampment in Afganistan or a nieghboring country with the aim of eventual elimination of all threat. I hope that he was putting up a smokescreen to take attention from what is really being planned because
I didn't like the sound of it. Such a thing may never work but it would place a heavy drain on resources and become something akin to a perpetual money machine for defence contractors, very like the nearby situation in Saudi Arabia.
To kill a snake you cut off it's head. I don't know why that wasn't done with Saddam, and I don't think it would be impossible to locate this guy and take him out, not with bombs and missiles but with a few good men.

I don't think it was a 'photo op' and I don't know what you guys mean when you say that.
Anyway, do you really think he is going to announce to the media and world what exactly the U.S. is going to do?
