Incense burning is outlawed as part of the anti-terrorist decrees. It's called giving aroma and comfort to our enemies.

Hmmmm
Maybe if we give aroma and comfort to our enemies then we would not have any enemies.

I just heard that a man was asked to leave an airplane because he had a vague Arab appearance.

What a mess.

Hundreds of right thinking americans marched on a mosgue in (I think it was) Wheaton, Illinois shouting for the deaths of all arabs

If this is the incident I heard of, it turned out that early media reports were incorrect. The marchers were Muslims; the march was meant to serve as a demonstration of mourning. About a dozen flat-line-EEG Good Americans were there to express their mindless hostility.

I just drove by Bethesda Md. Army Naval Hospital and they have blocked the main drive
with concrete barriers...I think they are called Jersey walls. It's a long drveway from the main street entrance...a good place for a truck bomb approach, I suppose.

Soon, we will be living in a fortress environment.

This country is going crazy We were senselessly attacked. Thousands of men, women & children were killed. Tens of thousands of lives destroyed. Millions of people affected. These attacks were committed by animals who lived in our country, trained along side our pilots, and walked among us. We can all pretend that life will go on as usual, but we will NEVER EVER EVER be the same again!

bearmom - I don't believe you wondering (or seeing a red flag) is unusual. The same thing happened after Pearl Harbor was bombed. Many looked on the Japanese as potential threats to the U.S. I just hope we have learned some lessons from that.

While we worry about whether we have terrorists among us, rest assured that our government is paying attention to who has been leaving our country. Just this morning the news said that 9 more muslins were being questioned as they made their way out of the US into Mexico. They were muslin clergy.

These are frightening times, and it's understandable that we'd worry about such things.

Right on, rancher.

Americans are scared. But for the grace of God, any of us could have been near ground zero on Tuesday. The murderous maniacs responsible lived among us as students and cab drivers and, for all we know, may have been acquaintances or co-workers.

Why were they here? Or re-phrased, why were they allowed to be here?

Are our screening procedures so inept that we freely offer the likes of these scum open entry?

Have our collective sensibilities become so vulnerable to watchwords like "discimination" and "profiling" that we prefer to put our own lives and the lives of our neighbors in jeopardy for fear of offending?

I'm not advocating a broad-sweep eradication of Muslim/Arab citizenry. That's ignorance.

What we'd better get a grip on, though, is HOW these animals came to live here as one of us, and, perhaps more importantly, HOW to discern the true intentions of those who still are.

Well that's some relief. I didn't see anything about it, but heard what must have been an early report while I was in the car. KGO.

"What we'd better get a grip on, though, is HOW these animals came to live here as one of us, and, perhaps more importantly, HOW to discern the true intentions of those who still are".

The worst of that is that apparently at least one of them was a known terrorist with several entries in international investigations. The least that could be done is a fingerprint background check on student pilots ,but I don't know what can be done in general. The world's future nuclear physisists and rocket scientists are here being trained at MIT and other places right now. How could they tell who's who?

One of them used the address of bin Laden's brother on his visa application, for God's sakes, and was still allowed entry.

I was incredulous to learn that the latter persona lives a presumably undisturbed life in the northeast.

Freedom for all.

And Bin Laden himself by now could be eating in a pizza parlor on main street in any one of our towns.

For years I've read predictions that something like this might happen here. All sorts of time , effort, and money has been spent on devices and plans which supposedly might prevent it, yet here it is.

A couple of years ago a guy who lives in Fresno, Ca made an out of cell call home from Los Angeles and later got a bill for something like $23,000. The papers reported that when it was investigated his cell code had been intercepted and calls to the mideastern part of the world had been made in a burst mode transmission of something over 1000 seperate calls in less than 18 seconds.

The last thing that should be happening is the people of this country going crazy. It's time to be calm.
If that's not a clue that someone is here with a huge knowledge of our wireless technology and a very undesirable intent I don't know what is.

And now I get this: http://www.salon.com/politics/feature/2001/09/12/bush/index.html

I remember now why I left here for so long. Hepburn, did I say he was a terrorist? Did I say I was going out hunting for Arabs? Another great example of someone reading into a comment what their prejudices cause them to hear. Sheesh!

You didnt actually say he was a terrorist. But you sure alluded to it. And what was the reason to post such a thread to begin with? Oh, I know. You just HAD to.

A general "pondering": What the hell did Saddam want with all those playstations he bought last year? For the chips in them, I believe. Makes you wonder what he wants them for.

I'm not advocating a broad-sweep eradication of Muslim/Arab citizenry. That's ignorance.

By the same token, it's equally ignorant to assert that all foreigners on our soil should be assumed to be here for innocent causes.

That mentality invited this tragedy.

Calling the FBI and reporting this would be something I would do in this situation. The timing is just too weird ...

I wouldn't care what nationality this person is ... the timing is just what bothers me ...

Besides, you may have a missing link ... or nothing at all. It is best to let the FBI decide. That is what they are here for. If you find out later that he was one, you will never forgive yourself.

If something makes you feel uneasy or suspicious you should always report it.

After thinking about this thread today and watching America's Most Wanted tonight, I agree with MrsSantaClaus.

He may have had an emergency back home or any number of reasons for leaving, but the timing is a factor.

Of course no one would want to turn in a neighbor for just being of a different heritage. But, isn't this is the MO of some of the people they found to be envolved that had families here. They sent the families home a short time before the event.

I think the FBI should be told, and it's up to them to investigate or not. Bearmom, you could even call the show. That's what they want people to do.

I think some posters here are being unfair and judgemental.

I would report it too.

For the record- I don't advocate blanket hate or violence against Arabs or Arab-Americans (or anyone else). I believe that anyone who wants to become an American, whether (s)he be of Arabic or any other descent, should be allowed to. That is the wonderful thing about this country in my opinion- freedom and justice for ALL.

I also don't see how reporting this incident could be construed as a racist act. Perhaps I am missing something...

Thanks for the support of those of you who suggested contacting the FBI, rather than just jumping on the racial wagon. This is exactly what I was wondering about when I posted this thread-was it something worth being concerned about? Our initial thought was that someone from his home country had contacted him and told him to leave, not that he was an actual terrorist. But when they arrested two of his countrymen right in our area, we did wonder about his possible involvement.

I will suggest the FBI to the realtor, as she is the one who has his name and all of the pertinent facts.

My husband also pointed out that buying this house might not be a good idea, as the government could seize it!

I know it is frightening to suspect that people who live in our neighborhoods would be involved in something like this. Nor should we assume that someone is a terrorist just because they have a foreign name. But sticking our heads in the sand is how our country ended up in this situation to begin with.

Yes, report it, thought that you already had. You don't need to try to figure out what the guy has going, we pay people to do that--it's their job.

I would call the FBI myself. They are paid to sort out everything. You never know.

The realtor might dismiss it because they don't want to bother with the hassle.

A friend of mine told me this morning that she is going to be calling the FBI. I asked her why, and she said that the man who worked at the cigarette shop she buys her noxious weed at was no longer there. She said he was an Egyptian and when she went in he wasn't there & some other "Egyptian or middle eastern" man was behind the counter. When she asked where the regular guy was, she was told "he's gone."

That's it. The sum total. And she's going to call the FBI...

If the guy is innocent then he surely will understand. If not.... I would call this in because of the recent tragedies, nothing to do the anything else.

This whole thing reminds me of star wars. Darth Vader was Anikan Skywalker, trained by the Jedi and turned on them, using the training against them. Darth Vader and the rest of the evil empire hunted down and killed what they thought were all the Jedi, yet a small group, the rebels, survived. Star Wars fanatics question why Obi Wan Kenobi trained Anikan in the first place. The higher ups didn't want to train him because of his age and because Yoda "sensed much fear" in the boy.

We could continue to question why our country trained these people to be pilots, but the Americans, just like the Jedi, will still be dead. We must learn to think like the great Jedi to overcome the darkside of the force.
