Maybe this moderation call could be started in a new ponderment thread or something.

Hmm, so much for that mystery, lol.

Buf, I didn't consider it a derailment, and I don't consider it my thread. Dunno if you intended sarcasm, but in any case things tend to wind around all over the place and I don't have any pretenses that I have any control over it or ought to. But honestly the introduction of a "What would you do if you were trapped in an elevator with Gerlado Rivera?" type of question in the midst of it just seemed a little silly. And in terms of its basis in reality, hepburn's "what if" has no more grounding or relevence than the Geraldo/elevator one does.

Gaff is not a moderator but I was simply expressing my respect, appreciation and apologizing for my derailment of the thread.

Hey gang- I have decided to wrachet it down a notch or several. NOT because you guys aren't my favorite polemics bunch, nor because I could get wacked by mods- there are plenty of other boards -- even though I think you guys are best to parlay with - all of you :".

However, I think I realized that some people have to be at work reading the things we post on the board, not beacuse they want to like us, but because its their job.

I saw a hardened newscaster last night nearly come to tears when pictures of the missing victims were put up on the screen. I could change the channel or walk away, the newscaster couldn't. That's what it can do to you if you can't get away from it.

That's my spin. I hope all of us consider what the mods are going through too, not by choice.

Solves what mystery, spaz? I was repeating what ol gaf himself said. Just used the same word that he used.

Gaf, ol buddy ol pal, think what you will. I was curious, so I asked. It will either be ignored (which it has) or some will be curious also.

edited because I can.

bufpuf, I was being sarcastic.

if there were a call to arms from the general public to go to afghanistan and fight and the age range was from 30 to 50, any sex. Who here would go?

I would. But you have to know I made my mind up about answering "the call to arms" a long time ago. I had to fight with the army to get a waiver to re-enlist the second time (third enlistment) because I'm about half deaf from being around tanks to long, and when that enlistment was up, they wouldn't give me another waiver.

I still want to know who Buf is/was...who knows how ancient I am, yet has been here so briefly...

I think I have an equal chance of an answer, Hep...heh.

I took Hep's question like 'are you willing to put your money where your mouth is'. I saw it as her asking if you want war, are you willing to put your life on the line. Thread and topic related, IMO.

Hep - While I can't be of much use, our son, a Marine, will be involved. So to me, that's like putting my life's blood where my mouth is.

Since toke is hobbling to her bed, I guess I wont know where I fit in being close to her ancient age. Guess I better get my cane and thump her over the head for leaving me hanging. Gotta find my teeth first, just in case my thumping makes me clack my gums.

Decrepitude is the sorry result of being ancient. Antique is when the decrepit is perceived to have some charm, and thus value. You may actually be antique. I have yet to pass beyond decrepit...

The topic was, "If we threatened to send Geraldo Rivera to Afghanistan, would the cough up Bin Ladin?".

Or at least I think it was something like that.

I think this should be sent to President Bush. This could very well be the answer to the situation. They would die laughing.

This topic has brought forth many silly statements. I would like the arm chair quarterbacks to rest assured that the military analysts and intelligence people know more than you. We know the military capabilities of all the possible foes, singularly or intertwined. We may not know where bin Laden is now but we know what he had for breakfast yesterday and we will find him.

To the handwringing peace, love and understanding people who are praying that Afghanistan will give him up and we can have a 7 year trial and the world will plant flowers. Forget it. Any sane person will admit a ground action is coming. If Afghanistan gives him up and calls everything even, the next Abu ben Whatever will come along and lease the terror camps. The landlords will take the rent money and think how clever they are. That is why Bush is making a point in his speeches about "those that aid him".

As to the Afghans or Pakis "luring us in", come on!!! We have learned that you can't fight a "political" war (Vietnam). That's why Desert Storm was a military war. And that's the way it's got to be.
