DeSquirrel,

Please edit this portion of your post out:

"the next Abu ben Booby"

These are multi-cultural boards, and I'd like to err on the side of caution.

If you're unable to edit within the next 30 minutes, I will have to delete your post.

Thank you,
Sara

Any sane person will admit a ground action is coming.

That's how I see it. You can't control a peice of ground from the air, at most you keep the other guy from controling it while you bomb it. When the bombing stops, control goes to who ever moves in, digs in, and stands fast.

If Afghanistan gives him up and calls everything even

If that happens, and we buy it, we lost.

I think people think of the times when a few people are killed and we use cruise missiles to blow up some sand and relate it to today. We know face a change in our way of life:2hr checkins at airports, armed guards in our monuments. This is a huge price that we will demand payment for. The two aircraft battlegroups in the Arabian sea are not there to burn fuel.

I didn't realize we had a whole new batch of analysts and intelligence people installed since Tuesday.

Now that's a good point.

I think they are a little more "focused" than they where before Tuesday. Maybe they won't be spending their time figuring out what politician is sleeping with what bimbo.

Actually, DeSquirrel, I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who thinks this is getting settled with a few dozen tomahawks. Or who is unaware that aircraft carrier group movements have military purposes.

Much of our intelligence is gathered automatically. There is such a huge amount of it you cannot proceed on every thread. That's why after the fact, we usually know so much so fast.

Talk about who has their butt on the line - this is the first conflict in a long time that they will really need a "home guard"
such as the reserves are going to be because the enemy may counter attack here in the States. Since the war of 1812 there were a very few small incursions by Mexico and some limited shellings on our coast in WWII and some Japanese ballon bombs that were pretty useless. But the 48 states have always been pretty safe.

No question that the number of threads which can be pursued in depth at a given time is very fininte, and that we'll now see an increased focus. However, if the activities of known associates of BinLadin was attracting so little attention before Tuesday, it does kind of make me wonder what they had higher up on their list.

Either the stuff higher up on the list remains a clear and present danger and needs just as much or more scrutiny than it did before, or the priorities were dead wrong. We've seen no actions taken which aren't clearly directed toward the BinLadin et.al. threat, which under the circumstances argues against the existence of some bunch of other higher priorities. Draw your own conclusion.

There's been mention in many places of the reduction in number and nature of human intelligence sources due to executive orders on just who can be recruited. Who's to blame for that is a separate issue, but the dearth of direct lo-tech intelligence sources is a fact.

Which means that every intelligence briefing going on right now has to be predicated at least in part on the assumption that our intelligence just might really really suck.

What about the civil war with the southern states being overran by Union solders?

I do agree that the "Kamikaze Terrorists" can strike anywhere at anytime. Each of us needs to keep a sharp eye out for any more attacks, any flaws in the system to allow more attacks and for any suspects or "material witnesses" who may be hiding or fleeing. And speak up!

I personally don't condone any violence against any ethnic group who are thought to be connected with Black Tuesday attacks. They are Americans too.

Does anyone remember the train wreck that occured about five years ago that was questionable? I was thinking about it yesterday and was wondering if anyone has claimed responsibility for it or if our authorities found out who did it. If it is linked to Black Tuesday attacks.
