Unfortunately, I can't post a link to the news article because the site also has discussion forums. A couple of excerpts from the Newsflash:
President Rodrigo Sales confirmed the layoffs, putting the number at "fewer than 50%".
Sales said they are still evaluating whether to continue their discussion forums.

The article posted in eBay Outlook reads (name of other place omitted):
****** has learned that AuctionWatch, an eBay Preferred Provider of auction management services, has made substantial layoffs within the past 72 hours. AuctionWatch President Rodrigo Sales confirmed the layoffs, putting the number at "fewer than 50%".
Sales said AuctionWatch will discontinue its efforts in the enterprise market. It will instead focus on the tools and services for individual sellers, power sellers and small businesses, an area that he said continues to generate strong revenues for the company.
AuctionWatch will no longer update its "News & Information" feature on its Web site. Sales said they are still evaluating whether to continue their discussion forums. He would not confirm the number of people that AuctionWatch employs, nor the exact number of people laid off.

Hmmmm.... Anybody remember the last time they saw a moderator around here?
It's kind of quiet around here lately...

It sucks to see stories like that. I've been through layoffs, never liked them. I've ever liked seeing them happen to others either.

I think Borillar posted that Bush reads this board, so I don't think they're allowed to pull the plug....at least not the RT Femme.

Sorry to hear any of the moderators might be losing their jobs.

I'm the one who posted that Bush reads this board, in my satire thread a few weeks back. But I can see where you'd confuse me with Borillar.
Right.

There was a moderator sighting this morning in the EO...

OK - just knock it off.
If you find another User that abhorrent, then use the "ignore" feature (click on their ID and click on the ignore all posts by...) It will make for a more pleasant AW experience and will lessen the chance of a posting vacation being issued by a Moderator.

I think the Mods knew about this several days ago. They were very jumpy and issued warnings and suspensions and then retracted them just as quick.

Ooooh!!! I forgot that.
However, Bush is probably just a little too busy right now to check in.
------
I would hate to see those who rely on The Ebay Outlook lose that board. I know how much I relied on it when I was selling on eBay.
If it does come to closing the discussion boards, I would hope that AW will give us some notice.

I really feel for those who are losing their jobs.

That's awful! I can't imagine trying to find a job at this time! It's hard to plan for a future, when you have no clue where/what will be going on. This is really horrible.
My heart goes out to all those involved in this AW decision as well as anyone finding themselves in the same situation.
It's probably going to start happening a lot. My son just called to tell me his company decided to close it's doors, due to lack of contracts and uncertainty of the economic climate. Only a few will stay past today to shut down the Houston office, get rid of equipment, furniture and prepare records for storage! Most left after the 10:00AM meeting.
I have also had two buyers (TODAY) ask if they could cancel out on their auction wins because they don't think they should be spending money on "unnecessary" things when all this horrible stuff is going on. I really can't argue with that. I have seriously thought about just cancelling my current listings because nothing has been bid on anyway. I definitely sell unnecessary "vanity" items-jewelry. Seems sort of inappropriate to expect someone to buy a bauble when there are those that don't even know where their next meal may be coming from and it could get a lot worse before it gets better.

As if the terrorists didn't have enough of an effect on RL, they are now infiltrating our little corner of CyberSpace as well?
AW has had it's ups and downs, but to layoff people right now is, well, downright sucky.
