Hi everyone. I thought I would shove us back on the first page so we don't get lost. I think most of us have other things happening in our lives at present and just don't seem to get in as often as we used to. Oh well that is the way life is sometimes isn't it.

I just got back from my walk and it is not easy with 4 dogs trying to win the contest as to which one can trip you up first. The puppies run straight in front of me and get under my feet where I can't see them and I have almost fallen on my face a couple of times. The two older dogs then have to get in on the action because they might miss out on a bit of attention or something. I am going to lock them all up this afternoon when I go out walking again.

Oh Jess I wish you luck with your little one's costume, I always had enough trouble coming up with the right outfits for school events........my daughter wore the same dress as Snow White and Cinderella, I just changed the decorations a little and it was so easy because the dress was her flower girl outfit complete with sparkley slippers. I know I took the easy way out, but what sensible mother wouldn't have done the same thing given the chance. I can remember having to make a Peter Pan costume for my oldest son when he was in grade 2 and after scratching my head for a couple of days it came to me. All I had to do was buy him green tights and a green T-Shirt, cut the bottom to the right shape and make him a little cap and hey presto he was Peter Pan and sooooo cute. What a pity they have to grow up.....he is 21 a week before Christmas. the costume that gave me the least amount of trouble was the Lone Ranger outfit my youngest son had to have for Pre School, he wore his cowboy hat and gun, along with jeans and a checkered shirt with a star badge on it and his beloved ride on horse who was appropriately named Silver. LOL Have fun with your little fellow now while you can because they grow up so fast and you will wonder where the years have gone.

Well I have some more cooking to do for the freezer and I am trying out some new recipes so I will talk to you all later.

I have not gone to an ADULT costume party in so long! Last time I went as a pirate. I had a cream colored crepe shirt made with big full sleeves and a band collar. and wore a silk sash with a flintlock pistol (unloaded) and sword (real). I found a pair of glove soft Bally boots that went up to the knee but were so soft you could fold the top over in a cuff..
Then of course an eye patch. But no parrot. I draw the line there.

Hi gang! Well, we survived the airports, increased security & both flights with flying colors. It was a bit bizarre though, I'll admit. I was more nervous than I figured I'd be, my tummy was upset until we landed.

The first new thing was the Super Shuttle couldn't stop long enough to run my credit card, he had to circle the terminal. Then, when we left, the line to check the bags was so long it wrapped around and went half way back up again. But that one went pretty fast, about a half hour. Then the line to go through the security checkpoint was long too, and took almost an hour to get through. They even made hubby take off his shoes because they were steel-toe. It's a good thing we got there about 3 hours before our flight instead of just an hour like it used to be!

Hubby's family was terrific and treated me just like family even though it was the first time we met. The service for hubby's uncle was lovely, even though I had a severe allergy attack from the perfume & flowers. It was also harder for me than I thought it would be because it made me think about my own father.

The next day we went to Uncle Dick's favorite fishing lake (almost to Texas! ) to spread his ashes. I used to never want to be cremated, but the way the family did it was wonderful and very peaceful. Again, it made me think of Dad and that we need to scatter his ashes soon. We've been waiting for it to cool off and now it has a bit.

The trip back was quite an experience...That morning while getting ready to go, the news came down about the air strikes. I seriously considered renting a car & driving home at that point! But, lack of money not wanting to be a chicken prevailed. Again we got to the airport almost 3 hours early. We thought we'd have time to eat lunch at the Mexican resturaunt recommended to us, but we didn't dare try because it was before the security checkpoint.

They had everyone in one line for all gates for the security checkpoint. The line started downstairs at one end, went to the other end, up the stairs, snaked back & forth from one end to the other 3 times and then split into 3 lines for the checkpoint. It took well over an hour to get through that. Again, they made hubby take his boots off and this time they ran them through the x-ray machine. The National Guard was there, tense and armed. I suddenly felt like I was in Mexico again...

The Guard wasn't at the Phoenix end (they started here today), but I did see a lot more security & police personnel. Also, they will not allow a car to stay still at all, so the curbside was quite empty compared to what it used to be. Oh yes, and I did see them searching a few bags when we left home. They took everything out of those bags. I have no idea what the criteria for searching is, I'm just glad my bag wasn't one of them!

Well, that's about all I can think of for now. I will have to say I don't really have an urge to fly again anytime soon, and I love to travel! Part of my hesitation is safety and the rest is the lines and pain in the butt factor. I know it's essential and I'm glad they're doing it, but I think I'll wait awhile to do it again...

Peace

What a week!
Hi to all and to Jess, nice to see a new face. It seems that we are all a bit distracted this week.
I have had ISP hassles this week. The've had more down time than running time. It has been very difficult to do anything on the net.
Will pop back in later to see if anyone is about.

Ain't that the truth!!! LOL

MouseSlayer,

Glad your flights went ok! I dread the long lines for my next trip. I like the extra security but I've never been good at waiting around.

Mylanta,

Thanks for the welcome. I've been shifting gears all week between work, volunteer duties, and my continued draw to watching the news. Sorry you've been having ISP problems, that is frustrating!

Hello all, Rocker you rascal, you remembered about moving the grand piano to the west wall? Knda caught me off guard, well, gotta tell you he has his own mess to clean up before I can send him there...sorry!

HiMouse, Netta, Mylanta (I'm never going to get used to that cure) and Deliteful, good to see ya'll, where is our gal PharLap?

I just took a couple of quick days down in Newport, RI on the ocean, again. Can't get enough of that scene, the water is soo calming and we will be going to Bristol this Saturday (ocean town) for an auction.

Oh I love auctions on the water. We went to an auction in Maine of a family of boat owners. They had so much stuff stashed in the attic the bidding died mid afternoon because the dealers trucks were full and they couldn't haul anymore away!

I'm a native Rhode Islander. Dated a girl pretty seriously at Salve Regina in Newport for a couple years in the mid '80s. Actually I half moved in with her, so Newport became a second home from September through May. It was a very special time in my life, and remembering it makes me long to go back. Back to Newport, back in time.

But even then I had no use for Newport in the summer. The traffic and the wannabes turn it into a hellhole.

Hello all, glad to see everyone.

Josh, he is driving me nuts...... I could cheerfully strangle him at times but then he will do or say something and I think, 'oh you poor kid', I know he has had a rough time of it with his foot and all, and I do understand that he is still in pain, but he refuses to go to physio because he is male and he thinks he knows it all. I am sure the females reading this will understand where I am coming from with that point. Oh and the other reason that he is as stubborn as a mule and thinks he knows better than anyone else, he is a Leo, and that just about says it all. LOL

Jan I hope you are not working too hard honey, remember to take some time for yourself now and then.

Gravid now I think a parrot would just make a pirates costume, if you don't trust a real one not to poop on your shoulder why not try a fake parrot. It makes me giggle just thinking of the image. Hahaha!!!

Mouse I am glad you made it back safe and sound. The whole service sounds like it was a very peaceful event, and I am sure that Tony's uncle is at peace now.

Zilvy I would love to get away for a few days, but no such luck for me at present. We were actually offered a unit over at Bribie Island for a weekend if we wanted it, but at present there is too much happening at home so we can not get away. I have not been to Bribie for 10 years or maybe more, it is such a lovely spot. When we were younger my father used to take us over there all the time at weekends, we would leave our house early in the morning and come home at night. Oh to be young and carefree again. That would be bliss.

Spaz it is good to see you joining us again, and who is Rockers favourite now that you found that smilie vamp.

So did your son decide on a costume Deliteful? How old is he, you might have to make the decision for him. At least that way it will make your life easier. LOL

Bob did you have problems with your Optus cable? My sister is with optus and she had problems through the week as well, but she seemed to get it sorted fairly fast. I hope you are back online and able to come in and play.

What is the weather like down your way, we have only had a drizzle up here but hoping for rain on Sunday. It is so dry that the grass crunches under your feet and has no moisture in it at all. We desperately need rain and soon.

I will pop back in soon to see if anyone is around, if not I will be back in a couple of days. Tomorrow I have a couple of things planned and on Sunday it is my nephew's naming day so I won't be in then either.

nettak, Hi. You picked it. Using Optus and been off the air more than on this week. It looks like they've got things fixed up now.
The weather here is all over the place. Fine one day, wet the next.
We managed to play two full rounds of golf today at a country course. It poured rain all day everywhere except the golf course. Never had a drop of rain, but driving home tonight through the mountains was a bit hair-raising!

One more post and then I'm off to bed. Believe it or not, it's way past my bedtime now! My schedule shifted about 5-6 hours on the trip. Of course it shifted about 2-3 hours back as soon as we got home too.

Ok, so air travel now has changed tremendously, in ways I've never seen before here. The lines are long and now they're saying to be on the lookout for more terrorist attacks. My good friend is getting married at the end of the month in Wisconsin and my husband is actually trying to talk me into going! Hmmm, do you think there's something to that?? We shall see...

Yep I thought it could have been the optus connection Bob, I am glad it has been ironed out and you are back on air. No rain, nor storms or ice and hail shall stop the game of golf hey. LOL

Mouse yes we heard about the fact that there could be more attacks but no one is evening trying to guess the next target. It is a very frightening world we are living in at present. We are being told that any of the countries that are allies of America could possibly become one of the next targets.

One of my sister's farewelled family and friends as the HMAS Sydney left for the gulf yesterday, they are joining the other Australian Navy Ship that is already deployed in the gulf. Both my sister and Brother in Law are Navy from way back and they have contacts and friends still in the services and Vicky still trains the cadets for reserve, so I have no doubt that before this is over they are going to be saying goodbye to a lot more friends and loved ones.

We have friends that live in country Queensland and they are building a bomb shelter, I said to my friend that I didn't think a bomb shelter would be of any use because if they decide to nuke up or gas us I am not sure that I would want to survive for what is left of the world.

I hope and pray that everyone keeps safe and well and also that our world leaders keep a sane and sensible head with the actions that they are taking.

Bob my husband keeps telling me that we should have a garage sale to get rid of some of our crap. He has been on and on at me about organizing something soon but I can not say when we will have our big sale because no one wants to sort through the crap and see what is out there exactly. We have a number of sheds crammed full of little treasures, maybe what I should do is put up signs and invite people to come and sort the sheds out for us and they can take what they want when they go.

Left a word out.

nettak, How's that new puppy coming on?
As you probably know, dogs are usually frowned on at golf courses, but there's a story about a bloke who always used to take his dog with him when he played golf.
The dog was very well behaved and always sat perfectly still when anyone was playing a shot.
The dog was also very good at finding golf balls that were lost.
One day the bloke was paired up with a group of players that he had never played with before. He hit a fabulous shot and the dog stood up on his hind legs, barked and clapped his two front paws together with a lot of excitement.
The other guys were amazed!
One of them asked what happened if the bloke played a real shocker of a bad shot.
The bloke replied "He turns sumersaults".
How many? asked the other player.
"Oh", the bloke with the dog said, "It depends how hard I kick its A***!!".

Ok, ok, one more? LOL Speaking of the cleanup Bob, we have been discussing doing just that around here. You see, we essentially have 2 households crammed into one small house. The garage is a disaster, I can't find anything, I have no room to work, etc. So I proposed that we take everything out of the garage, park it on the driveway, sort through it all and put it back in neatly. Now you all remember the pictures of what my garage looks like...

Part of it is hubby & I never completely unpacked when we moved in. So some of our boxes are half empty, not packed right (you know, the day before moving day, throw it in a box syndrome ), etc. So some of those boxes have shifted, been picked through, etc. Then Mom & dad moved in and while most of their stuff was put in organized, it was all stuck in the middle where the holes were. Plus when we get a lot of rain, the garage floor gets wet. So even more boxes got put up higher wherever they would fit. Getting the picture? It's a mess out there!

Besides, I can't even get up the energy to do eBay these days because my work space keeps disappearing without my help! Ok, I'm a bit frustrated, thanks for listening! LOL I guess what we need is a 4 year cleanup...

Bob

Our canine family are all doing well and are still adjusting to each other, well Rolly and Jake are still adjusting to each other at least. Jake growls at the pup for some reason, I think he is jealous because Jake has always been the favourite and he likes to get treats and cuddles but now here is this cute little fluff ball and Jakes eyes turned from brown to a lovely shade of green. Anyway they will get used to each other I hope, we just have to give Jake time to get used to sharing us with this new puppy, but it is funny because he never acted like this when we got Jess only a couple of weeks before we got Rolly. *sigh* Dogs are worse than kids sometimes.

Actually it is good that we got both puppies so close together really because they will grow up together and that is a good thing.

You know I can't believe that I just said that last bit because Rolly is still having little accidents in the house and I still have to clean up after him. Greg tells me that he is only a baby and he will grow out of leaving these nasty little calling cards for me to find. I just wish I knew when he would outgrow piddling in the house.

Hi Spaz I know what you mean about the blight of tourists, but without us where would this town be, and all of the restaurants and boutiques....all those people relying on the greenbacks of the out of towners. Even with the inherent wealth they wouldn't be able to support those marvelous mansions without our money.

I am somewhat of a tourist snob, I do not go to any seaside resort during high season. Haven't been to Cape Cod in 20 years. The first week in October most of the shops are still open but most of the tourists are gone...no long lines for seating at prime restaurants and although the inventory in the shops is a little low there is still plenty to chose from. I mainly go there to enjoy the ocean and scenery around the island and some really neat antique shops and wonderful food.

Hello everyone, I meant to come in last night but got side tracked and never made it. Oh well I am here now.

We never ended up having the baby naming day because our Dad was in hospital so my sister called it off until Dad could be there. My sister is what you might call Daddies little girl..... Anyway she did not want to have the ceremony without Dad so she has rearranged it for another day when hopefully everyone will be able to attend.

Dad was having chest pains for days and never told anyone. Then on Thursday he decided he had better tell Mum, and then he only wanted to go to the local doctor, but Mum called the ambulance and took him to hospital where he was admitted straight away. He did not have a heart attack but it was more like a warning sign. Dad forgets that he is getting on and he had been digging in his little garden ect., things he should not be doing. He is 74 and has had two strokes and a heart attack followed by bypass surgery a couple of years ago.

My parents could be the death of me. Lucky thing for them that I love them or I might be tempted to give them away. My mother in her wisdom, while Dad was in hospital decided to move the furniture around by herself. Good grief the woman has has numerous heart attacks and is 70 at christmas.

Anyway that is my excitment for now..I will try and get in later to see who is around. I have to go and mop the family room floor now.

Netta Your Mom must've gone to the same Mom School as mine. I think they took the course "How to whine about all you do alone even though there are people perfectly willing to help you."

Zilvy LOL! Of course I remembered the piano story, it was HILARIOUS! I also remember this one: "Hon, while you're up, could you please get a job?" How could I forget GREAT lines like those?!? You see, you guys all have me literally laughing out loud even when I'm not here at the computer. I just think of funny things you all say and I crack up all over again!!

Spaz - I suspect you are going to appreciate this one - GUESS WHO hired me to compose the entire musical score for her next play? Are you ready? Are you sitting? KATE BORNSTEIN! Can you stand it? This is a DREAM GIG for me!! She is SO much fun and so cool, and I wanted this gig SO bad, I could just pass out. THUD

Well we finished our new CD, we did six songs in three days! That is unbelievably fast by the way. We did 10 hours a day in the recording studio, it was very hard work but worth every minute, I have to say it sounds AWESOME, I am so excited!! The band is "Kevin Cahoon and Ghetto Cowboy". Kevin and I were in Hedwig together, he is also in Rocky Horror on Broadway. This CD is his own band. I am the guitarist/backing vocalist. We finished the CD on Friday night, and then on Saturday I went right to work composing music for Kate's show. It's so weird how there can be NOTHING for six months, it can be really boring and depressing, and then ALL the gigs come in at once. Why is it always that way? But hey I am not complaining, I am so happy to be busy again and playing so much music again.

I have to run but I will be back! xoxo
