Bin laden and the taliban have been doing a damn good job of killing off their own women and children, BEFORE we decided to drop some NON surprises on them. Least they had warning. Then again, they are probably using those same women and children as shields to protect their own sorry selves.

Did they negotiate with the people killed in NY? NO

On November 15, 1969, more than 250,000 gathered in DC to protest the Vietnam war.

Not even a close comparison.

The Rodriguez family felt that the war was being waged on their behalf and for the other families involved in the WTC tragedy. They felt guilty about the suffering caused by the war.

My point is that the was was not being waged on their behalf and therefore they had no reason to feel guilty.

Next question...What is the real motive of this war.

Is it retaliation?
Is it to find one major terrorist...bin Laden?
Is it to advance our political agenda in the mid east?

That is my interpretation of this thread.

Of course, I may be wrong. It may be just a discussion of two or three families and their perception of war.

Me thinks that anti-war people never think war is justified and that a country should always turn the other cheek when they're being attacked.

My guess is that if we didn't fight back and the Taliban took over America and women have to wear those hoods all the time and lose what little freedom we have then that would be ok with them too. Either that or they'll be saying, "gee, I never thought that would happen."

Helen, the article was clearly meant to portray a picture of dissent (about the war) among those people most affected by the events of September 11 -- because *their* feelings would certainly hold more sway than those of anyone not directly impacted. That is called deceptive reporting, because the premise put forth -- that there is a "growing" number of them who feel this way -- was not at all borne out in the article. What we were given was an editorial, disguised as sympathy-generating news...

I believe that when the second plane hit the WTC that the war hawks were thinking...Now we can get Iran.

tigressoflove, yes, I agree with you. I wonder how many of those who are marching in protest would do the same if they were digging along with those firemen and pulling up parts of bodies...especially if one of those parts had a familiar watch on the wrist (for example). They would change their tune if it hit closer to home for themselves. What if terrorists hit Germany soon...and 6000 of their people are buried in rubble? THink some of those same people will be marching? I think not.

BTW..I would never live long under the taliban. Im too feisty and like my freedoms too much to grovel.

Back on topic...I dont understand what it is peace keepers expect us to do. We were minding out business, going to work, flying to visit relatives or vacation or whatever, and terrorists decided to steal our planes and kill our civilians. It was not a military hit, it was against innocent people. What is the REAL reason for this war? It is because we got sucker punched, thats why. And Americans dont take b!tchslapping very well.

I haven't seen any good arguments toward turning the other cheek. I will admit that this web page does make me think that diplomacy through peace could work, but only with cooperation from Bin Laden. We can only hope.

Helen - I would suggest that you open a discussion of some sort with the terrorists to see what would appease them but being a woman they would never speak with you. Perhaps you have a male relative who could act for you?

Actually Hjw's being women may not be as large a problem as you would think.

I have heard a few Reports on TV and other places in resent days that bin laden has brith defects and is actually only partly male and partly female.

He has the bat but no nards Truth I kid you not !!!!!!!

the only part of him that resembles a man is his beard which is the effect of takeing hormones..
