Rocker, I've just got back and caught up with this thread. I'm with you all the way!
I find it hard to believe that a certain poster can publicly announce themselves to be such a cold hearted souless excuse for a human being as happened in this thread.
At the first sign of sunshine, snow will turn into slush and dissapear down the drain.

Rocker... I've been here since the beginning of AW, but don't post a lot anymore. Your heart wrenching story brought me down outta the rafters tonight. I couldn't look at the WTC site on television without getting a sick feeling in my stomach and tears in my eyes, and I can't even imagine the pain of actually seeing it in person.

nyrocker: I admire your spirit to confront the devastation like that.
I don't know if I could do that.
In a psych class I took we were told that viewing the body is a very important to help you along in the grief process. It makes it real. I wonder if seeing the WTC or whats left of it will have the same effect.

Ignore the grief that a certain poster is trying to give you, you have enough to deal with right now. As an old merchant marine I knew once told me, "Some people soar like eagles and some just buzz around your head like misquitos, it's important to know which one to swat and which one to follow."
Swat away.

I hope to visit NY again sometime but it won't be soon.

I have seen this misunderstanding before. My brother in law - may he rest in peace, soon - has always had a thing about apologies. He is very quick to demand them. However when someone says "Oh I am so sorry" to express sympathy he has no understanding at all that it means "I fell sorry FOR you." Probably because empathy is not one of the qualities that he has appeared to ever develope.
He just looks at you like a nut case and asks what you are sorry about if you say that.

Wish I could go to the site, but I live in ky and that'd be hell of a drive. I'm not getting on an airplane...hated flying before all this.

snowydayz is posting in the same manner as several other user names have been over the past few months and each of the names had got suspended for this same type of thing. Coincidence?? I think not if you catch my drift...

nycrocker, thank you for sharing your experience.

I'm coming in late on this thread since I didn't see it last night.

If I were able to go to the site in NY and the Pentagon, I would go. Out of respect and somber reflection, in the same way I would view the Holocaust Museum or the Vietnam War Memorial. They are sobering reminders of the horrors of war, the awful things that humans can do to one another, and memorials to those who lost their lives.

My heart goes out to everyone who has been touched by this senseless act of violence.

Never forget.

I have no comments for the heartless and cruel comments made here by one particular poster. One shouldn't respond to vomiting trolls.

Thanks Rocker for sharing this with us. Many of us have never been to N.Y.C. or else ,like myself, have only been thru it and never a part of it.

I'm sure TV can't give us the reality as you did. Tho that were bad enough.

When they first had the polls about it (on AOL) I voted for rebuilding it. Now I think differently. It should be some kind of Memorial park and a remembrance forever.

Hi folks,

Let's refrain from discussing Suspended posters - it's been taken care of - the Topic of this post is far more important.

Thanks,
Sara

Nycrocker, thank you for sharing your experience. For those of us who do not live on the East Coast, posts like yours give us more insight into the utter devastation at ground zero.

nycrocker!

I know you probably don't remember me but I got to chattin' with you a little bit on a smokers thread awhile back......(I didn't do too good!)

You are a sweet and very cool person and I have always enjoyed reading your posts.

I am very sorry about what you saw......and I know EXACTLY what you mean by having to see it. I live in Ohio and won't have a chance to see it except for what I have seen on TV. I simply cannot believe the comments made by one particular poster........

I remember when my mom died in the hospital.....first thing I wanted to do was to see her. I remember when my sister-in-law gave birth to a lifeless 6 month old boy and how I wanted to see him and hold him. I remember working in a nursing home where death is common place and would sit with those whom I didn't know while they were dying and would hold their hand.....

Maybe it's called closure......maybe it's called remembrance.....but whatever you call it, it is all part of what we call grieving.....and we all grieve in our own way....and there is no right or wrong way to grieve. We all have a right to grieve this terrible tragedy and loss.......how we grieve is not for anyone to judge.......

{{{NYCROCKER}}}

After the flood, my parents drove us to the devastation ... to see, to help, to understand. Television can show you through the eyes of a camera but it is the sights, the sounds, and the smells that drives it all home.

Each of us must heal in our own way ... and I want to thank you for posting what you saw ... somehow it seems more personal when it comes from a friend as opposed to the media.

As my parents did so long ago, I too, will take my children to the crash site to see, to hear, to smell, and to honor those heroes. One day I will also take them to the NYC site. One of the best things that we can give our children is experience ...

Best of luck to you, rocker and jamesoblivion.

nycrocker: Thanks for sharing you first hand experience. We were in Washington DC two weekends ago and went past the Pentagon. Just driving by and seeing the charded hole in the building was chilling. I can't begin to imagine the impact of seeing the WTC site first hand. Again, thanks for sharing with us.

wow...Rocker and James...I feel so badly for you both, and anyone else who experienced what you felt.
On 9/9 we went to JFK Airport, and thankfully, the person we took got some really great photos of the city skyline from the Verazano Bridge.
We have been to JFK Airport 4 times since 9/11, and I still can't believe how "small" the skyline looks now.
I am sitting here rubbing the goosebumps off of my arms after reading this thread (they popped up quite a few times) and I have so much to say, but somehow feel absolutely speechless.
You have alot of great friends here, and a boundless army of support.
My best to you,
Michelle

'Tis a long, long road
In a path of disdane,
When a person
Unannounced
Leaves us all in great pain-
But the clock will strike soon
And the chimes will begin
Sounding the sweet toll
Resetting our lives yet again.

Portion of a poem I wrote about 11Sept01. Hope it helps you, nycrocker. I am a die-hard Red Sox fan, and for the first time ever, I want the Yankees to win the series, Jets to win the Super Bowl, Knicks in the NBA and Islanders in the NHL. That would be truely poetic.

God Bless,

Rick

In the begining, God created the heavens and the earth.

I caught my spelling mistake too late.
