How can a credit card verify the user? My cc is in my husband's name and I use my maiden name. A verified address? I still don't get it.

I wouldn't want to be an AW Customer Service Rep at the moment for all the world.

Christopher, Sonya, Brian et al - I hope you signed up for that 500K package. You've going to be earning it, I think

Cutting the cost of moderation, yes. And the CC verification is a means of (hopefully) not letting the board go completely to weed...

Your Idea is almost there now take it one step more.

There moderator cost them money, But in fact most message boards use volenteers to modorate there chat boards.

problem you cant really ask people you were paying to volenteer what you once paid them to do..

I'm going to ask again. Why a credit card? Why not a voided blank check, like the OAUA used?

Toke, that would be cumbersome. There are a few more users than your place had, and CC automation is already in place here. What's the big deal? You never used a CC anywhere on the net? If you have, the info is out there; if you haven't it's still available.

I'd much rather use a CC than a voided check. I'm not comfortable giving my bank account info out, but I give out my CC# all the time.

Credtit card verification is a way to let "eBay" (AW's new bed buddy) know WHO is posting WHAT about them here. Plain and simple.

A credit card verification is a JOKE!

With permission of the CC owners, we tested this theorey on other sites, and I was able to get "verified" with the CC's of two woman, and brother-in-law in PR.

It is a joke, and a facade.

Does this mean that banned posters will now be able to return as long as they place a cc on file?

Hi toke,

Our systems are simply not set up to accept any method of verification other than via CC at this time. The system was built to allow us to maintain large volumes of data and unfortunately, manually processing checks is not possible. We are looking at alternatives, but do not have anything developed at this time.

Sorry about that...

Diana

I have NEVER needed to use a credit card merely to affirm I am who I say I am. I only use my credit card to spend money...it's for doing business.

How about this hypothisis? AW really intends to close the message boards. But, they don't want to be "the bad guys", so they put into place this new rule. When the people don't bite, users leave and the number of posters is reduced drastically.

Now AW can say the boards are not used enough to justify their continuation, and Slam goes the door.

nanandme,

The answer to your question is no. I will not be with AW in any capacity after Oct 30.

I'm still wondering what it is you're trying to verify?

Like some of my friends and rivals, I have been FROM THE VERY BEGINNING!

What is that? about 4 years? I think? I'm not quite sure.

For AW to NOW ask me to provide "verification to them, is disrespectful and well...stupid!

What does CC verification DO for AW?

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

It's been a good run, huh Diana? I have had many "situations" with you, but I WILL say this...that you have been a pro all the way, even through my suspensions.

Thanks for THAT at least.
D.

JOICE - THAT SUCKS!!!!!

God knows AW could use you on the help boards...

Thank you for everything - you have been absolutely wonderful to work with, and I am truly going to miss you. I have no doubt that you have a much-deserving successful and beautiful life ahead.

Keep in touch when you can!

RainyBear, forgive me, but I think you're fighting a losing battle. You're trying to put a positive spin on this because you're gonna stick around and would like others too as well. I don't blame you. But this recent development offends many of us on a gut level.

I don't have a CC.

I don't plan on getting a CC, especially just to post here.

Even if I had a CC, Hell would freeze over before I used it in such a manner.

BTW: Joice, thank YOU too. We use to get along pretty good prior to your "mod" days, and you helped me a lot in the early days of eBay, whether you remember or not.

THANK YOU!

I'd like someone to answer julsey's question. Will all the banned posters be allowed back if they have a CC?

This whole thing is almost too funny! Why should anyone 'verify' themselves with a credit card just to chat? I don't care if this thing is called a message board or not, it's nothing but a glorified chatroom. There's too many other chatrooms/message boards on the net, for anyone to worry or panic because one simply decides that they want to 'verify' anyone with CC information.

It's not a matter of what business has my credit card information, or even what they 'may' do with it.... it's simply a matter of I will never be desperate enough, or bored enough.. that I have to 'pay' for something that I can get for free elsewhere.
