Irene...

Your memory is like a vulcan mind meld.

You really scare me some times with your knack for dates and details.

Please tell me that your name is not H.A.L.

My Strikingly phenoninal looks.

My incredibly superior brain.

and of course my modest and shy

I left here just after the Brenda saga. I'm not sure I would call them fascinating but they were rather magnetic and no matter how I tried to resist, I had to read them.

When I came back to AW earlier this year, I would see references to old threads and would search them out. The Van Gogh threads held me spellbound for several late nights. Very Modern's astrology threads kept me trying to guess who the mystery charts belonged to.

But the thread that I think I learnt the most about human nature, the most about history, the most about other posters and the most about my own convictions was the Hanoi Jane thread.

I'll never forget the Hanoi Jane thread either, and I'm not even an American:

The funny thing about VM's thread was I guessed the last one she did...JoseyWales. She described him to a T, but I couldnt say I knew it was him, because Hepburn wasnt supposed to know josey. It was only after he admitted it at Ross that I could say to myself, "I knew it all along".

Perhaps I'm biased. But the DNF/mass NARU threads were informative, as they detailed the mindset of eBay (and others) at the the time.

Baduizm: That always brings back the memory of term "sheep with pink pom poms". As I recall, someone named Wynter, in defiance, adopted that term as his sig line.

We can say "he who can not be mentioned" again? And without code? I guess not.

choco, I didn't WANT to get suspended actually, I just wanted to kill KRS.

Can we say Nazi Pond Scum too? (As a general term I mean...if not directed at anyone in particular.)

Hi jt,

Please edit the name out - the old CG's still apply until 11/1.

Thanks,

Whokay...we have "She who shall not be mentioned" and "HE who shall not be mentioned." Or it could be "They who shall not be mentioned."

The "Unmentionables"?

No Shadowcat. The "unmentionables" would have been the first panty thread, started by Terri in August 1999.

Ah. And, if I remember correctly, those threads defined "getting your panties in a wad".

We changed our names? When? Why? *tapping claws impatiently on table and furrowing brow* And why wasn't I informed?

I'm wondering what the mods are going to do with their lonely empty lives now that they won't have us to entertain them anymore?
Will the crime rate go up noticably?
Will they use all their hours of hearing how to do it to become super power sellers?
What will they think when the crack open the dusty door of their lair and rejoin the world?

Then it went from there to SmithyRiddles bunched, or knickers twisted, lol.

I'd always intended to return in the fall, you know, but the nice weather held out for awhile longer than expected. Chores and such have kept me otherwise engaged.

I may have procrastinated for a few more weeks if events had not proscribed further delay.

So I'm back, for the moment at least, to join in this bittersweet reunion.

Irene! Snowy! Gravid!

Nice to see you all again, too.

I am so very curious about the B---- (she who can't be named) saga. I first heard about this through the recent thread on bumperstickers, and now I see it mentioned here by several posters. I've tried to follow the links provided by ST, but end up on a page with 0 posts and 0 pages. I've even tried to utilize the "Way-Back Machine" site that someone posted recently. Nope, Nada (although there is this cute little snippet that reads " " ) ; myWindow.document.close() ; } //--> end keep old browsers out end keep old browsers out " ) .

So many dead-ends, and still no inkling. I cannot fathom that AW would actually initiate the power to forbid posters to even mention a name. This all seems so outlandish, and this inquiring mind really wants to know.

I think I'll post a thread over at BarrysPlace this evening to invite old posters to reminisce about this subject. Do any of you think it would fly here at AW once the boards are no longer moderated? Would any of you like to grumble about or defend this again. Would the majority prefer to just let sleeping dogs lie? I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to get the scoop on this.

And will this post be subject to WOMD?

Rosie
