First of all, hello! And don't be shy.

We're running out of time for some, so if you lurk at AW, please take the time to respond. Why do you choose to lurk? Why not post?

Hmm. And if you do post here but lurk someplace else online, why not weigh in as well?

Simple, because not everything needs to be commented on

Sometimes you can tell from the way people are posting that there is no room for another view and it would be a waste of time to say anything. There are some real boneheads out there.

Why do you lurk, why do you blow smoke.....

I admit it, I'm a lurker. I enjoy reading heated debates, but am scared to death of personal confrontation. I know its silly, but I don't want to step on any toes. However, I've learned that no matter how careful I try to be when I do post, more often than not I inadvertently tread on some very sensitive unseen appendages. Since I can't win for losing, I’ve been working on thickening up the ol' skin and posting more often.

But I stay away from (shudder) Bush/Gore/Clinton threads – I get dizzy going ‘round in circles all the time.

I was not always a lurker. I used to be a participant in lots of threads. But when I realized I was on the computer almost every waking hour I quit ebay and quit talking on chat boards.

I still stop by a few boards to see how everyone is getting along, and I am sorry to see so many folks leaving here even though I understand the reason why. I too don't expect AW to be around much longer, at least in its present form.

But in answer to the question, it takes alot of time to involve oneself in any chat board. I couldn't balance my real life and my computer life, so one had to go -- but I could not completely separate myself from places like this, therefore I lurk.

Why do you lurk?

Because every few days at work I get really bored and need to see what y'all are up too

No longer post because it takes too long and I'm not as good at holding my tongue as some of you, and I always regret later.

What seems like a ...

funny jab

at the time.

Looks pretty lame the next time.

I think they have our CC on file because we giv'em tons o' money every month but I won't be starting up again.

I'm kinda at that other place, sometimes, but very infrequently.

Was going to save this Good-Bye until tomorrow but this'll be it.

Good-Bye! ... And I'm sorry for any lack of respect for any posters in the last couple of flaming hot threads I was in ...

Really, I mean it.

Because, I climbed up in the rafters many moons ago and got pretty comfy up there.

You should see the parties we have up there sometimes, quite a crowd some nights.

I only post when someone asks a question that i can help with..that is how i learned what i know and i try to return the favor.

I am assuming people that constantly are posting are not running 5 or 600 auctions a month by themselves. I read the chatrooms as a treat after my work is done.

So i guess the answer to your question is; some of us don't have the time to chat all day long.

Hmmm didn't know if I could still post.

Because no matter how aggravated one might get with AW at times this is still the place for the best topics of discussion from politics, hot news or the complete opposite.

You will also hear all 3 sides of the topic and people aren't bashful about explaining their view vigorously and most often civily. Besides, there are many here that I like and try to keep track of.

I lurk here and some other places for a few different reasons.

I often lurk at weird hours when no one else seems to be around. Sometimes I don't read threads until hours or days after they happen or they are locked. To me it's fruitless to start it all up again to simply post the equivalent of an "I agree".

When I am here in the middle of the action, I don't always haved time to post. I read when I'm waiting for images to download/upload, auctions to launch or end.

RL keeps me constantly busy. If I make a post and someone questions me about it, I feel guilty if I can't answer in a reasonable timeframe. That's not always possible.

I am outspoken and confrontational in RL. I often speak before I think and I've seen many afflicted with the same thing here land themselves in scalding water because something they have posted is misinterpreted. I would much rather scream at my monitor what an idiot you (a generic "you" ) are

But AuctionPulse hit the nail on the head. The Round Table is a very tight knit group. While newcomers are generally welcomed with open arms, occasionally someone harks back to the old days and it is implied that a newcomer isn't always what they seem to be (and maybe sometimes they are not). Heck, in the short time I have actively started posting, I have been compared to 3 other people.

What most regular posters fail to realize is that by lurking, we know as much about you as the people who post do. I can use you as an example, James

I know you are one of the relatively younger posters here (21 or 22). I know you live in NYC and you are Jewish. I know you have or do corresponded with Terri (jt). I know you have a steady girlfriend and you are "engaged to be engaged". I know you spent the night before the WTC disaster at her apartment. I know you play in a band and the "oblivion" part of your ID comes from the band's name. I know you are an Iggy Pop fan. I know you have 3 older sisters. I know your elderly neighbor asks you to change her lightbulbs. I also know you are a well liked and respected part of the Round Table evidenced by the "Where are you James" posts and threads when you disappear.

I know all this because of things you have revealed in your posts. I have learnt equally as much about other regular posters. Lurkers pay attention

But what all this means is that even though many of you feel like old friends, I don't really know you and you don't know me. And I'll be the first to admit that's my own fault.

I wish I had contributed more. If I had known the end was so near, I would have. I am sure I am not the only lurker out there that feels that way....

What Kim said.

That's exactly why I lurk!

I don't want to be profiled by strangers. You never know who's reading.
