Today I find that the bush administration has extensive plans in place for nuclear attacks on at least seven nations. Remember bush's campaign speeches, if you can, and think about how often he used the word "humble".
Take note too of the contradiction between his promises to reduce the nuclear arsenal and this new call for new and smaller tactical nuclear devices

WASHINGTON -- The Bush administration has directed the military
to prepare contingency plans to use nuclear weapons against at least
seven countries and to build smaller nuclear weapons for use in certain
battlefield situations, according to a classified Pentagon report
obtained by the Los Angeles Times.

The secret report, which was provided to Congress on Jan. 8, says
the Pentagon needs to be prepared to use nuclear weapons against
China, Russia, Iraq, North Korea, Iran, Libya and Syria. It says the
weapons could be used in three types of situations: against targets able
to withstand nonnuclear attack; in retaliation for attack with nuclear,
biological or chemical weapons; or "in the event of surprising military
developments."

"They're trying desperately to find new uses for nuclear weapons, when their uses should be
limited to deterrence," said John Isaacs, president of the Council for a Livable World. "This is
very, very dangerous talk . . . Dr. Strangelove is clearly still alive in the Pentagon."

But some conservative analysts insisted that the Pentagon must prepare for all possible
contingencies, especially now, when dozens of countries, and some terrorist groups, are engaged
in secret weapon development programs.

They argued that smaller weapons have an important deterrent role because many aggressors
might not believe that the U.S. forces would use multi-kiloton weapons that would wreak
devastation on surrounding territory and friendly populations.

"We need to have a credible deterrence against regimes involved in international terrorism and
development of weapons of mass destruction," said Jack Spencer, a defense analyst at the
conservative Heritage Foundation in Washington. He said the contents of the report did not
surprise him and represent "the right way to develop a nuclear posture for a post-Cold War
world."

Does anyone really think that this new "shadow government" has to do with terrorism?

You no longer have to display a desire to oppose them. Just having the capacity is a threat to these people.

Terrorist = Anyone not under their direct control having knowledge or ability to oppose the will of the administration.

Expanding the situations in which nukes can/will be used and vague terminology such as in the event of surprising military
developments. is hardly cutting the arsenal.

I still gotta wonder at all of those republican voters who wouldn't listen to the rest of humanity around the world in declaration to NOT put Bush into office. All they did was plug up their ears with their fingers, start to sing their favorite nursey rhyme, "Clin-ton told a lie-EYE! ... Clin-ton told a lie-EYE!" to drown out all logic and common sense. Now see what they have helped to create? A perilous world made a thousand times more perilous. Thanks a lot, republicans!

This a particularly silly thread in that for the last 50 years there have been military plans and scenarios for various levels of conflict with virtually every country on Earth.

Yes, there are plans for a nuclear response for even an attack by Great Britian, what cities to target, etc. Hell, I used to read articles on this when I was in grammar school. That's what Norad spends half the time doing: wargames.

Hey, is the "shadow" gov anything like that big bunker under the hotel outside Washington? You know, the one where Congress et al, is supposed to evacuate to? Another 40 year old story.

I find this to be one of the most ..if not the most..alarming things this imbecile has done so far. We're going back to the cold war and in a big way.I can't believe he added Russia and China to his list. I can't believe it was let out that he did. Don't these people ever look at a world map and see how tiny the USA is in comparison to these other sountries? If they all get pissed at us just how do they think we can possibly defend ourselves from such numbers?

Oh, wait, I know....a gazillion nukes. That'll fix em.

To say such things in public is based on the same thought processes as a person who waves a gun around hoping to scare someone.

My dear mother always taught me to not draw until I had already decided to shoot. Her accurate assesment was that if you wave a gun around hoping to scare someone you might succeed. And people acting from fear are not very predictable or controlable.

Ever since this man (Bush) has taken office, nothing good has come from any one thing. The more he talks, the more nervous I get. Like gravid said..hes yelling FIRE in a crowded theater, waving a gun around and exclaiming "evil doers" like hes a cartoon character out to get the bad guys..but the bad guys have big guns, too. Or did he forget that? I dont think he did, but we have 3 more years of this. Think we will still be around by then, or will we be blown to smithereens by another power that says OH YEAH? and aims a few nuclear blasts our way and who has the same sentiment that WE are the "evil doers"? Thats exactly what Im afraid of.

Desquirrel,

You say that you learned all that you need to know reading your comic books?

I doubt that anyone other than you would consider a comparison between the whacked out offensive touted by the bush administration and NORAD, "The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is a binational United States and Canadian organization charged with the missions of aerospace warning and aerospace control for North America. Aerospace warning includes the monitoring of man-made objects in space, and the detection, validation, and warning of attack against North America whether by aircraft, missiles, or space vehicles, utilizing mutual support arrangements with other commands. Aerospace control includes providing surveillance and control of Canadian and United States airspace."

Krs. Yes, its me. Been thinking about heading back this way for some time and decided that why should I worry about my to-the-hilt cc and it being on file with AW? I read here all the time and lately I have been nodding my head with what I have read, so why not join in from time to time, says I to myself. So I did.

Just came to me last night after reading more about Bush and where we all are in RL situations that not doing what I want to do while I can, isnt going to make anything go away that IS happening in RL. Bet Im not the only one either. Perhaps those who have been floating around for months feeling the same things I have been will take the plunge and rejoin also. Perhaps not.

I was around during the Cuban Missle Crisis. Yes, I was scared, but I trusted President Kennedy to make the right decisions.

Bush and gang have me more scared than I have ever been in my life. This administration whilst trying to be in control of everything from us to saying how other countries should behave has brought us back to cold war. They have undone many years of accomplishment, change, and hope for a safer world.

Instead of staying on the path, he came to a fork in the road, and lost his sense of direction by going the wrong way. Will we be able to show him a map correcting his wrong turn before doomsday?

Chococake, yes. You said what I have been thinking myself. When company went to bed last night and gave me some time to reflect, I found myself very nervous...again. Actually, nervous isnt the word. I wonder when the first nuclear strike will hit us. I wonder when Diable Nuclear plant will get hit and all those that I love and care for will die in an instant. Im not scared of dying myself. What scares me is the thought that "what if I survive, but have to know and see others dead?" I dont know if that is selfish, but not only am I fearful of that, Im also very very angry that this man is destroying in such a short amount of time what other presidents have slowly built up over the many years. Hes going to kill us all, plain and simply speaking.

Hi Hep! Bush baby has had every advantage there is. I would like to ask mammy and pappy Bush, "what did you do to your son that instilled such hatred to other people, and countries?" His hatred towards others isn't any less than the hatred by the terrorists.

She is? I'm sorry to hear that. But she was trying to push the tolerance of the AW censors and then vanished. I thought that she gave up. Hopefully, after her small breaktime from AW is up, she'll be back refreshed with much to contribute.

I'm still trying to figure out something about all this Bush bashing. You all don't really think that he invented the nuclear threat do you? Come on? Someone else made the damn thing - Why? To be used!!!!

Now, before you go blasting me for that comment, I DON'T WANT IT USED anymore than you do, but you're all blaming a guy that has been given a weapon of mass destruction, shouldn't you be pissed off at the people who invented it in the first place? While I sound pretty simplistic (and believe me, I am and I know it), I also know that you all can't possibly put 100% of the blame on the Bush Administration for this new Nuclear threat, he didn't make the darn stuff.

It's more humorous when they define the "lies".

There is also a basic stupidity in calling a military contingency plan "the X administration's plan". I'm sure ANY president does not know the scope of military contingency planning. And I'm also sure they don't care. The President only cares when the question is posed "We have a problem here, what can we do about it."

Why is it you think this is bush bashing? I havent called him names, nor cussed about him, myself. Im saying he makes me worried, because since he has been in office, he has busted butt to alienate not only the folks who supposedly nominated for him, but also the rest of the world. I would say the same thing if it was Clinton doing it, or Kennedy, or Gore, or Ventura, or Hillary or anyone else sitting in that office doing the same damn things hes doing. So no. It isnt bush bashing. Its calling it like I see it. JMHO is all it is.

I also know that you all can't possibly put 100% of the blame on the Bush Administration for this new Nuclear threat

Oh yes I can. Just because he himself didnt invent it... (here comes a mini bash..ready?...hes too damn stupid to invent anything)....doesnt mean he can pull it out of the closet and threaten the neighborhood kids on the block like a kid with daddys gun. The kid didnt buy the gun, nor did the kid make the gun..but he sure knows where it is, as well as the bullets.

DeSquirrel, maybe so. However, Bush is tacky in his announcements of whom he thinks is part of the "evil axis". Didnt he ever hear of "you catch more flies with sugar than with vinegar?". Guess not. I would rather have someone with some brains waving those guns than someone who thinks he should have a big S on his chest and falling out of the telephone booth and landing on his face when he leaps.

Duhsquirrel,

Maybe you've read in your space comic books about the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty or the 1994 Congrssional ban on the development of new nuclear warheads in this country? I suppose not, but to direct the pentagon to do what he wants violates both ridiculous restrictions.
