On Reuters today:

The pan-Arab daily al-Hayat published Sunday what it said was a statement from an al Qaeda spokesman warning the United States to get ready for another attack.
"What is coming to the Americans will not, by the will of God, be less than what has come," the newspaper quoted al Qaeda spokesman Sulaiman bu Ghaith as saying in a statement.

"So beware, America. Get ready. Get prepared. Put on the safety belt," he said in a statement al-Hayat said was published on the www.alneda.com Web site.

And I should be concerned for the civil liberties of these lovely people???
I think not.

But Linda, If civil liberties are not available to all, then you could lose yours also. All Arab people living in the United States could lose their civil rights. And it's like a slippery slope. The loss will escalate.

Linda,

Who knows whether it's more bull or real. I would think if they are up to attacking enmass they would have done it by now or will do it in the short future. India and Pakistan are back to threatening each other over Kashmir and no one is paying that much attention to the (worldly) fleabite suicide bombers in Israel and Palestine. al queda wants more attention whether real or imaginary.

I never thought I'd say this but a reincarnation of Herbert Hoover is looking pretty fine right now.

Dman,

How is that remark relevant to the loss of civil liberties?

The goal of terrorists is to create fear. I didn't consider the comment above about terrorists as news. It's probably nonsense. We can't let the fear of terrorism cause all people in this country to live in a tyrannical police state.

Helen

So, Dman, I was looking for bad news and I found nothing.

If they can control us this easily like little puppets and they arent even in high offices of this country yet what will it be like after we are blindly lead to elect them into these offices in our towns city and states...

Do you really think that the 1200+ people picked up and held now for months are all active terrorists?

The government is doing the terrorists work for them alienating many people who just wanted to work her and have a good life.
I shudder to think of the cost of that over the next years.

My Dad always taught me that you do everything you can to avoid making an enemy - but these Feds are tough. They don't have to worry about alienating a bunch of rag head taxi drivers - right? They are dooing the terrorists recruiting for them.

Sulaiman bu Ghaith: "So beware, America. Get ready. Get prepared. Put on the safety belt,"

Calamity: "al queda wants more attention whether real or imaginary."

Hepburn101: "Im inclined to go along with Calamity on this. But....(and you knew a but was coming, eh?)....dogs that snarl and drool usually mean they are fixin' to bite."

Dogs snarl= Sulaiman
Inclined with Calamity=they want attention

Should I spell out anything more? Sheesh.

edited for even more clarity. I dont know why i bother.

Hepburn 101,

In my opinion, you failed to explain what you really mean.

I understood Calamitie's remark perfectly and it had no relationship to yours whatsoever.

Oh for heaven's sake, Helen. She's telling you...if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's a damn duck!

And along the same lines, now is hardly the time to become complacent. All along I've felt Pakistan could be the Achilles tendon.
And here is an interesting article in Newsweek regarding just that.

Are you saying that if it LOOKS like a terrorist and it talks like a terrorist, it is a terrorist. Good Grief , KatyD. I'm surprised that you came here to protect Hepburn and for saying something that dumb.and insensitive.

I think youre right, katyd. This, among alot of what I read, caught my eye:

"What’s frightening is that all this open-air dialogue took place in a country that George W. Bush has described as America’s most stalwart ally in the war on terror."

(Helen & Hep--This is my last try. I'm sure you are both very nice grrrls and you both appear to be invested in and have much to bring to this board. Helen, please stop snipping at Hep. Hep, if you posted Helen was an alcoholic in your opinion would it kill you to apologize? Ladies, please!

I had my argument with Stockticker. Now I laugh at it. Try it!

Back to topic. Thank you.)

nycyn. Yes I said she seems to be drunk most of the time because what she posts makes no sense. Especially if her smithyriddles are bunched, which is more often than not. And I already did apologize for hurting her feelings. I have no intention of groveling. Trying to get along with Helen is impossible.
I also would appreciate it if everytime Helen starts in on me again with PERCEIVED insults she thinks Im aiming at her, you would cease to lump us together like Im asking for her UNWANTED attention. I know your motives are good, but it aint gonna happen.

By the way, nycyn, when I said she was "probably" drunk, it was last year. Enough already with the continual whining...tis done. She has said MANY things about me and I havent harped on it over and over and over. Sheesh.

Sorry to have started a thread ....and then run off.

Calamity...I certainly hope you're right. .. Just another scare. I usually check the news wires twice a day and when I read that, it made me sick to my stomach. Sometimes I don't handle these news articles as well as I'd like.

A point I'd like to make here is for those who have such high expectations of our government to prevent these attacks. There are many [maybe hundreds/thousands of pages of information] of these types of threats coming in daily and yet a lot of you seem to rag on our government agencies for not investigating each and every one. "For not connecting the dots."

Helen, what did I say that is insensitive? And yes, if it looks like a terrorist, talks like a terrorist and tells you they're going to come and kick your ass...in all probability it's a terrorist.

I'm not worried about "my" civil liberties. I'm more worried about theirs. I imagine that when FBI agents start attending Friday mosque services, they'll get an earful.

Lindak, I agree that the government is damned if they do, damned if they dont in many instances. Im also sure there are lots of things we dont know, too. I just havent figured out if we are better not knowing, or knowing.
