Thought this interesting and worth posting...found it surfing.

"Recently Bush met with Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso. Not far into the conversation, Bush asked the 71 year old statesman an unexpected question:

"Do you have blacks too?"

"Condoleezza Rice was present and jumped in to save Cardoso from having to answer, informing Bush that in fact Brazil is home to more blacks than any country outside Africa."

"The incident was witnessed by the White House press corps. Equally terrifying: the American media did not report the incident. There seems to be an unwritten rule that while it's ok to acknowledge Bush's lack of "intellectual curiosity", any hard evidence of utter stupidity must be covered up."

"The incident was reported outside the U.S.. For example, by the prestigious German news magazine Der Spiegel. Here's a translation of the article (with a link to the original German article):"

Well, if nothing else, the Bush Presidency has been about the education of one single man. So far, that lack of education has demolished our economy and very possibly precipitated the 9-11 attacks that collapsed the World Trade Center towers -- all in his first year of Real Education. The Question for Americans is: Can we afford another three years of it?

Fantastic Photo from the German paper.

Cardoso reasoned afterwards that where Latinamerica is concerned, Bush is still in the "learning stage".

BUZZ FLASH

I did a search and only found the statement reported in foreign papers. The site that I listed above is similar to the one listed by deuchler and it also has the story because it's not controled by Bush. I've read that reporters have a problem maintaining access to the White House if they fail to toe the mark of Bush/Ashcroft.

Gone are the days of a free Press Corp at the White House. Long Live the Clinton Era!

That just tells me that he has no grasp of the history of his whole hemisphere. Embarrassing and frightening.

What is freedom if you voluntarily give it up. What value access if you can't tell what you hear?

Perhaps we would be better served if they had a press conference and nobody showed up.

WE would still know as much but he would learn something also.

If Rice (and others who see this first hand)had any self esteem she would quit because "I can't work for an idiot." Doesn't seem to bother them.

Joseph McCarthy was only a senator who had less compelling circumstances and he was able to control the nation through its fear ........ for a while.

His lack of geographical knowledge and culture is an embarrassment to the US population. This does nothing for the image of the US population to other countries with comments like that.

I think what bothers me most about the whole incident is our US press corps. Looking back at past presidents, there isn't one who has not made stupid mistakes. And Bush won't be the last.

The fact that our press corps (the same press corps that invade privacy because 'the people have a right to know'), has chosen to not report this and other Bush blunders disturbs me. And I gotta ask: would they have done the same during Clinton's terms? Somehow I don't think so. Sad. And scary.

A good book about news coverage and recommended by Cheryl is,

Drive-By Journalism
Arthur E. Rowse

Corporate influences on journalists controll nearly everything that we read, see or hear. Now, just about five conglomerates are corrupting the news process.

I remember when China had our plane and crew someone set up a site "Dear China, Please excuse our our stupid, %$&*##! President." For those of us who felt oh just apologize already and get our guys out of there. Tons of people signed.

"Do you have any blacks?" What a moronic question. Like, is there a country that doesn't and what does it have to do with the price of rice, as my mother would say?

Great pic, Helen. Was that supposedly taken when he was in that meeting?

"Supposedly" is about as believable as we can get when we see or read anything in any newspaper anywhere.

The thing that bothers me the most about this...besides our "sold out to corporate America" media...is that other countries think that the President is representative of the best America has to offer. If he is the best then he makes us all seem to be fools to the rest of the world.

Hi Rawbunzel!

Sometimes I read the chat boards at The Guardian newspaper in London and every now and then there is a negative discussion about America and it's generally accepted that Bush is dimwitted. But,I'm sure that most people all over the world know that he was not really elected by the people.

Now that he really needs credibility abroad, he has none.

I'll check it out more thoroughly tomorrow.

But a quick check confirms that we are truly superior no matter who our leader is. LoLOL!!!! George would fit right in!

Hilarious!!!! One poster insulted another by ridiculing the poster's mother and when she took her last shower. This is Too Funny!!!!

nycyn, yes, I would love to know WHY he asked such a question to begin with. For what reason? What was the purpose? Every time he opens his mouth I wanna hide under the desk, and my face turns red. Hes one of those that makes one be embarassed FOR him, just because hes such an idiot.

Edited because I had the wrong name for nycyn, lol.
