It's really strange, but when I gave Brienhold free reign to discuss the word nonsense in the Afghanistan thread, she/he suddenly shut up. It was as if the fun was in disruption of the thread and when the option of disruption was removed, all the idgits left. I even provided a link to Roget's thesaurus so that some interesting variants of the word could be discussed.

Who are the "four" and who are the reasonable people who left because of the "four"? Can they be found at Barry's? Is this another plea for fluff threads? If it is, my question is why don't you start one or two or half a dozen. I don't think anybody cares or would disrupt your fluff threads.

If you start a thread about "cats" for example, I think that it would be a little wierd to introduce a comment about the word nonsense and how many times it has been used in the last few months. Don't you agree with that, Brienhold?

Breinhold, start some other topic if you don't want to reply to the present ones. What prevents you from doing that?

The political threads don't bother me. I don't reply to many of them because I live in a town where the business is politics. But I'm not going to dictate what others want to discuss.

Irene, now I'm really lost, because I *thought* that brienhold was the one that had posted, um... what can I call them...pics of her (him??? ) partly in the buff But maybe that was another posters name, it was awhile back

Absolutely not. The posts in question were not particularly "political" (though EVERYTHING becomes political.) For instance, one post was when someone brought into Stusi's "killer dog" thread "George Bush & the Republicans".

Another was when a "French scientist" invented a machine that once started ran continuously and produced energy. But --you guessed it, the gummitt was keeping him down and denying it to the people.

NeartheSea

Ny in the gang of 4??? I didn't think of that one.

Breinhold

OK, who exactly is the gang of 4?????

Breinhold- I agree with my good friend stockticker!(LOL) This is a carefully disguised, quintessential political troll thread. You are now a charter member of the AW 5! Wasn't that a radical group back in the 60's?

I am not against political post at all.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I support freedom of speech.
however the round table has become 99 % political.
I could start a topic about a butterfly in Peru and within moments the name Bush will be somehow worked into it. that is no longer debate, that is propaganda.

Its become obsessive and has completely taken the RT over.

I am not even against a 100% political forum , but that is not what the RT started off as...or am I wrong?

What Breinhold is saying (and I agree) is that the days of discussing anything other than political spin propaganda is over. The "gang of four" (I know who 3 are, but not sure who the 4th is) will turn anythread into a Bush?Big Oil/ Republican conspiracy. Heck, if Antiquary mentions a worm in his tomato plant, you can be sure that Borillar/Krs/Helen will jump in to point out that it's part of some Republican conspiracy to destroy tomato crops so that Bush and his cronies can make a few bucks. Yes, there is a reason that there are less than 10 regular posters on a regular basis here at the RT. The fact is the RT has changed, and in most viewpoints (thinking of all the people who are gone for good) it is not for the better. It gets just plain boring. Some good posters are gone for good because of this "gang of four", notably Pat, who enjoyed a conspiracy or political discussion as much as the next person.

You RT diehards may not want to admit it, but I highly doubt there is not one of you who don't miss the old RT group and the wide variety of discussion and debate that used to take place here. I know some of you have stated so privately. So get your hackles up all you want, but what Breinhold said is the truth. The RT is a sad shadow of what it once was.

Breinhold:

Originally, posters had to be dragged kicking and screaming from the eBay Outlook to General Chat (which became the Round Table). In early 2000, AW decided that non-auction related posts were not going to be allowed on the eBay Outlook anymore. Non-auction related threads were locked.

The reason (I think) for AW's decision was the nasty mood which had developed on the eBay Outlook in the fall of 1999.

NearTheSea - When did any of those happen? Well, you must have blinked and it passed you by.

Helen - I just absolutely have to know if you said this with a straight face? Is this another plea for fluff threads? If it is, my question is why don't you start one or two or half a dozen. I don't think anybody cares or would disrupt your fluff threads.

Have you already forgotten the Big Brother thread I started to see if anyone else was watching it also and just wanted to share their thoughts on it?

I agree it's a shadow of what it once was, Katy. However, I don't think it's any nastier than it ever was. There were simply more people posting then, a LOT more wit and humor, and a wider variety of threads to balance out the nastiness.

Yeah,And there were others who formed groups
and didnt associate with anyone who chatted with the 4 or someone else,That didnt fit the mold of of the queen divas. The round table came about to complain, and bit*h about
stuff going on somewhere else.It was a refuge. The name was tacked on later.Thats what I remember......Maybe my memory is gone. There is a lot I don't want to remember
about the R/T,So I pretend the past didnt exist here.

Irene, thank you, ok I remember Fashion, sorry Breinhold

I guess my guess was wrong on the 'four'
so Ny is not one of them... heck I don't know who it is, but curious

Yep Linda, I guess I did blink

And I do tend to agree with Breinhold that even a 'fluff' topic, totally NON political, I know one poster that will bring Bush into it, no MATTER what it is

Well, I'm not saying it's nastier than before. Frankly, AW is nowhere near as nasty as it was back in, say, 1999. But it IS boring. And that is why so many people have left. They aren't allowed to discuss anything without it being turned into a damn politcal/conspiracy thread. And then if they dare to disagree, they are labeled as trolls. The biggest "trolling" I see here are by the ones Breinhold calls the "Gang of Four". And you are right about the "wit and humor" being gone. Those witty humorous posters had enough and left a long time ago, and it wasn't because of the cc requirement. I know this because some have told me so.

I discovered AW in the fall of '99. It had its share of rude posters then. The RT at its inception was one poster riding a cyber harley and talking in the third person. It gradually became a much more vibrant place to post. I still think the best advice is to ignore the comments you don't like and keep posting.

I just want to know "what difference does it make"? There are so many other boards where you can feel more comfortable. Why did you come back here and complain about this one? We all read and some of us post at the other boards.

Yes, the RT has changed. Just like Irene said in the beginning no one even wanted to come in here. Then it got popular and it was the place to be. Many of the changes were not of our doing, but of AW. The ones that stayed just happen to be worried about whats happening in politics, and that's what we tend to talk about. Again, I say, so what?

I find it loads of fun and get a kick out of it. If it is not enjoyable and bugs you - well I don't think anyone is holding a gun to your head to even lurk much less post.

Maybe you take it too serious that there are other views of what ///TRUTH\\\\ is. You seem reluctant to post your own views if there will be an disagreement with it. So what if somebody knocks it? Big deal.

You don't like AW but you are turning your nose up at Barry's - could it be that nothing makes you happy? Perhaps you should start your own board and specify what you want posted.

So, Choco? Now nobody has the right to complain? Name ONE board out there that has the variety, vibrancy, and color that the old RT (and before that EO) had. Name one? How many of the old AW posters do you see on these other boards? A few at OTWA? And most can't stand that board. They are gone for the most part.

So what? Yeah, so what. A board is what the posters make it, and this one was hijacked.

Well when you see someone that can't stand the idea of others having a different view right out in public with no shame it kinda fits. Have to admit I stuck that in 'cause I knew it would bug him.

But I don't like the Dems any more than the Republicans - I am an equal opportunity curmudgeon.
