I was reading the same thing Borillar. I would tend to agree with you, but read this, which doesn't support your theory:

"There are many theories regarding female offenders. One of the main questions
analyzed is why females chose to sexually molest children. A commonly held theory
about the reasons why women sexually abuse children is the belief that a victimized child
grows up to become a victimizer in an attempt to ritualize their traumatic childhood
experience and master the event by taking the power of the adult perpetrator. Although
this theory makes sense, it can be argued “many more girls than boys are the victims of
sexual abuse. If being the victim of sexual abuse increases the risk of becoming a
perpetrator, then there should be more perpetrators than there are.” (Finkelhor, 1984)
Due to the large imbalance of male and female perpetrators, it is difficult to support this
theory."

"I say: let's change the legal system to recognize the problem, train police investigators and social services investigators to recognize and help out these kids who are victims of female predation, just as we now do for victims of male predation. Let us explore ways to help victims of molestation to not become molesters themselves. Let us research ways to stop those who have gone too far. Let us bury those victims of molestation the we have killed in revenge".

An excellent summation, Borillar!

And, until an effective treatment is found, the only reasonable answer is incarceration in a locked and segregated facility where they can be studied and treated.. Society needs to focus more time, energy and money finding treatment and lockup facilities for this type of predator and less time, energy and money increasing the prison population by locking up petty criminals.

Without getting into the "nature vs. nuture" quagmire, suppose for a moment it is "nature" that accounts for pedophilia. So many of our quirks are determined by genetics. What happens if pedophilia is genetically determined? What then? If a person is knowledgeable that he/she is genetically predisposed to becoming a pedophile but never acts on it, are we okay with that? What if he/she isn't cognizant of his/her genetic make-up? Will the offender get one chance in this situation? Do we test for a genetic link? If someone has this link, do we alter it?

After doing some extensive reading on this, including the DOJ and FBI sites, there seems to be consistant agreement that Nearly all of the offenders in sexual assaults reported to law enforcement were male (96%).

It's easy to understand why many have not heard of this sexual abuse being done at the hands of women, since most of the statics show such a small percentage being committed by women.

BUT...I'd also like to say that distinctions were made [on some sites] between incest and pedophilia. On other sites, no distinctions were made, all sexual offenses where all grouped together.

I don't believe any sexual act against a child is okay. NONE. But it appeared to me that the biggest percentage of the abuse at the hands of women were of incest....rather than by abduction of a child for sexual reasons.

Interesting thread, kraftdinner.

saabsister,

Possibilities to cure disease and mental abberations such as this one with genetic testing and manipulation is an exciting prospect.

And, as you suggest, there are also mind-boggling possibilities for the misuse of genetic info.

Yes, victimize those who were victims themselves by punishing and killing them in cold blood. Makes you feel a lot bigger than you really are -- don't it?

What would you suggest we do, Borillar, if it could be proven that pedophilia resulted from a genetic component?

Used to be people with flawed genes were taken into the woods and clubbed to death. In today's society, we nurture and encourage those genes to reproduce and multiply.

I don't know, today I just feel like being the Devil's Advocate. That is my attitude for the day....
