First, welfare is appropriate when people, for whatever unfortunate circumstances, are without food, shelter and medical care. In your example, this scenario doesn't apply.
Being a liberal democrat doesn't entail giving away personal property.

Grade point averages generally represent the level of understanding and achievement in school. Giving an unearned grade point average to anyone is not only unethical but it could only be considered useless to the recipient since understanding of the subject doesn't transfer with the gift.

In the case of giving special consideration to some qualified black students, it is a gift of opportunity. There is a big difference between the two cases.

But I originally heard that dumb story from Limbaugh in one of his moronic tirades of untruths and half-truths. Since then many an "educated" Repub has used that story for every thing under the sun from AA to welfare to even tax-breaks for the wealthy.

And it not a parable. At least a parable makes some sense and contains some truth. But throwing a couple of unrelated situations does not make a parable. I think it could be describe better as a "Weasel Story"

I agree in the need for a welfare program. Unfortunately I believe it's gone to far. We have people that have been on it for 2 or more generations. It wasn't supposed to be that way.
Liberal democrat ARE giving the country away and our personal property. My tax money should be my personal property. I believe in charity. I give as much as I can and then a little more. That's my choice.

"In the case of giving special consideration to some black students who qualify is a gift of opportunity. There is a big difference in the two cases. "

This is true. I believe in opportunity for everyone. We have thousands of scholarships and grants for this. I'm sure many are just for blacks or other minorities. I don't remember the NAACP giving scholarships to whites

Oh boy...I'm in seventh heaven. Colin I agree with your views....all of them [so far].

Here's another [what ever] that I received from a Republican friend.

Subject: The difference between Reps & Dems

A Republican and a Democrat were walking down the street when they came to a homeless person. The Republican gave the homeless person his business card and told him to come to his business for a job. He then took twenty dollars out of his pocket and gave it to the homeless person.

The Democrat was very impressed, and when they came to another homeless person, he decided to help. He walked over to the homeless person and gave him directions to the welfare office. He then reached into the Republican's pocket and got out twenty dollars. He kept 15 for administrative fees and gave the homeless person five.

Helen. No I don't think I'll tell that to the IRS.
Amen,

As is usually the case. Just like there's his side, her side and the truth. [Usually somewhere in between.]

I hope no one misses the delicious irony that a president who doesn't bat an eyelash in advocating a government that would spy upon and keep records on all the citizens, circumvent the Bill of Rights, ad infinitum, labels a program for college admissions, which at best probably directly affects 1% of the population, as unconstitutional. LOL!

Here's a stupid chain letter that was sent to me recently:

------------------------

She was seen recently on the senate floor speaking against the high salaries of company CEO's.....

Hillary Rodham Clinton, as a New York State Senator, now comes under this fancy "Congressional Retirement and Staffing Plan," which means that even if she never gets reelected, she STILL receives her Congressional salary until she dies.

If Bill outlives her, he then inherits HER salary until HE dies. He is already getting his Presidential salary until he dies. If Hillary outlives Bill, she also gets HIS salary until she dies. Guess who pays for that? WE DO!

It's common knowledge that in order for her to establish NY residency, they purchased a million dollar-plus house in upscale Chappaqua, New York. Makes sense. They are entitled to Secret Service protection for life. Still makes sense.

Here is where it becomes interesting. Their mortgage payments hover at around $10,000 per month. BUT, an extra residence HAD to be built within the acreage to house the Secret Service agents.

The Clintons charge the Federal government $10,000 monthly rent for the use of that extra residence, which is just about equal to their mortgage payment. This means that we, the taxpayers, are paying the Clinton's salary, mortgage, transportation, safety and security, as well as the salaries for their 12 man staff -- and this is all perfectly legal!

When she runs for President, will you vote for her? How many people can YOU send this to?
---------------------------

It is letters like this that are turning more and more Americans AWAY from the GOP and the Republican party ~ not closer to it!

Well, Borillar, People are incredibly gullible. Whatever benefits she and every other senator is eligible for will become her fault.

That's a lovely picture too.

Just wait.
