Oh for crying out loud
Are the Ten Commandments REALLY that bad?
geeeez, aren't they really the basis of some morality. ya know Do Not Murder, Do Not Commit Adultery, Do Not Steal, and on, and hey, there's only 10!!
I checked that link from a poster, I like this
RIVERSIDE COUNTY: The Val Verde school board in Riverside County, CA has okayed the posting of the Ten Commandments in the district's schools. The board later rescinded its decision following intense pressure from the ACLU

>Borillar, have they really dropped dropped teacing Evolution in school?
It's been a battle on the local level. Some biology teachers have stopped teaching Evolution or when they do, they do it in passing and without discussion. With the Fundies getting themselves onto school boards fo the exact purpose of derailing any Science, not just Evolution, but stuff like Geology, then there are constant legal battles going on. Typically, a Fundie outfit moves into a small town and sets up shop. The idea is to convert the local townsfolk to their narrow and simplistic ways of thinking. Next, they invade the school board and local politics to ensure that anyone who complains is going to have to take it way beyond the local level -- which a lot of parents just don't have the money to do that. Sometimes, they can get a group like the ACLU to help out -- which is why the Republicans *HATE* the ACLU. Of course, when the ACLU DEFENDS THEIR RIGHTS, they don't thank them or anything.
"In a democratic society, the religious beliefs of this or that person are nobody else's business. The creationists are free to believe whatever religious tenets they like. What they are NOT free to do is dismantle the wall between church and state and use the public schools to proselytize the rest of us to their religious interpretation.
And its not just public schools which are under attack. Public Libraries are under attack in many ways. Ask Bunnicula about what she has seen and experienced or read here: Challenged and Banned Books
Also, the Republican Party is rife with them and their Glorious Leader, Dubya, is one of them. You have clear nut cases like John Ashcroft who goes around putting clothing over pieces of artwork - this, from the highest Judicial office in the country. John Ashcroft is not just doing that but other nutty things as well. And it's not just Ashcroft, but many others in Congress as well who kowtow to the likes of Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson.
Americans are under siege. Our government is warmongering and lies to us constantly. Our government illegally has revoked our Constitutional Rights on a PERMANENT BASIS ("for as long as the War lasts" plus "This is a War which will last forever" put together equals "Constitutional Rights gone forever).
So what part of this haven't you been following in your hiatus, NearTheSea?

I'm a hit and miss, run and all poster Borillar!
You did not comment on my comment about the majority of Americans are of a Christian basis, belief whatever! you didn't look that up yet? messin with ya here, AND you didn't comment on my comment on what is so wrong with the 10 commandments... like I said theres only 10 LOL!! and they are by and large the ones, ok SOME of them, if ya break 'em, you go to jail (thou shalt not murder, thou shalt not steal) and if not a law, they are basic rights and wrongs you would normally teach your kid anyway, right?
