I didn't take any offence, Sheryl. If I can take KatyD's crude barbs and Linda's occasional sneer, I certainly am thickskinned enough and not prone to take offense. I am happy to remind you of someone that you value and that you obviously respect so highly. I can't say that I won't dissappoint you: I have my own reasons why I make a post one way or another.

Turkey's stock market plunges after vote.
Isn't it possible that; More to the point-
Turkey's vote results in stock market plunge: CAUSED by America’s THREAT to withdraw CONDITIONAL aid.

It seems that some people don’t wan to be your FRIENDS unless you pay them.

(Bush) “You’re either with us or against us” this policy results in attitude echoed by people like 12pole-
“After all we had done for those ungrateful bastards...”

Project for the New American Century
Sounds like 4th Reich.
“• we need to accept responsibility for America's unique role in preserving and extending an international order friendly to our security, our prosperity, and our principles.”

American ‘related’ friction is rampant all over the world at the moment and only increasing.

It's the American Way, austbounty. Sadly, there is no such thing as Americans being "true friends" in the international arena. We always have some monetary or economic motive for everything that we do. (of course, that's not what we tell the troops going into battle to give their lives for the "cause"

There is no such thing as "true friends" in international relations. Where do you get these totally naive and baseless notions ?

There are only common interests in international relations.

The leader of Chirac's political party in France has stated that Chirac has made a big mistake not backing the use of force against Iraq. He said that Chirac is destroying the EU and NATO to protect a murdering dictator.

Next you'll be telling us that France and germany are "true friends" with Saddam. If your baseless theory on international relations is true, they must be good friends with Hussein !! How nutty can you get ?

Below is a recent quote from Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri - sound familar ? Don't think that these "peacenics" are aiding and abetting a murderous dictator in Iraq ?

"Any call for stepping down should be asked to Mr. Bush. He is causing his people and his country to be hated all over the world, isolated all over the world, becoming Public Enemy Number One all over the world."

We are not isolated nor hated all over the world. We are not acting unilaterally.

There are a few countries that have interests in Saddam Hussein remaining in power and will work against America and the coutries supporting the US.

Good news, my friend will live. He sent this to me today (thought you all might like to hear what a Brit has to say re: WWII and the impending war):

"I think the UK appreciates the support of the US in WW2, but the fact that many Americans talk of the 1941-45 war (whereas it was, in fact, 1939-45) still irks us. As you rightly say, America only joined WW2 after being attacked itself at Pearl Harbour and was hence two years late. As happened in 1914-18, come to think of it. We have fun talking of our joining the war on Iraq in 2005, after a similar interval...

It is true that the US sent us weapons in the early years of WW2 - but we had to pay for them. It was only last year that we paid off the final instalment.

America lost about 135,000 men in Europe. The USSR lost 20 MILLION. Sorry, but, much as I despise him, it was evil "Uncle Joe" Stalin who proved to be our greatest ally.

Not a jibe at the Americans, honest! But would they please stop claiming they alone won WW2. Who really saved "Private Ryan"? I'll give you a clue: America wasn't on the scene at the time!

There is nothing to stop this war now. America has decided, and Blair will follow his master, no matter what. It also means the end of the United Nations - ironic, since it was founded with American money."

Gives you pause to think.

Cheryl

You should be very glad the Japanese attacked us. The peacniks in the US at the time would have marched to the last ounce of the last Brits blood. Even though our gov was secretly supplying GB with aid and intel, by 1941 you had already lost.

You should also be very glad you did not have to count on the Russians to help you. The Russian casualties you mentioned include civilians and purge victims. Political appointees make very poor military leaders. Even massively supplied by US with equipment or the material to make their own, the Russians were massacred by the Germans even when they had 10 or 20 times the men and material.

As to payment, I think you should research what you "bought" and how much you "paid".

I suggest you read Shire's "Inside the Third Reich" and Winston Churchill's volumes on the history of WWII. His "Hinge of Fate", and "CLosing the Ring" will provide significant insight and factual information to your previous post.

These were not my words. I am not a Brit, I am an American. They come from a friend who has lived there all his life. I think he may know a bit more than you or I. Don't put those words in my mouth because they didn't come from me.

Just wanted to set your record straight. You should go back and re-read it. I clearly said this came from a friend of mine in the UK. Part of being able to read is also being able to comprehend what you
read. Oh, Gawd, did that just come out of my mouth? The Board is rubbing off. Am I an official member yet? LOL
