The expierement continues. Does spending money on ads really help wharehouse sites? If there is no noticeable increase in the amount of items being sold on ePier after these ad campaigns then there is truly no hope for the free sites. At least they are trying though.

Come on GET REAL!! If 450,000 did nothing (and by the way where are they I never see them) why would 200,000 more do any better? FACE IT EPIERS problem is not ads its cancer. The cancer of lies. You know damn well no more ads will be done and even if they are it wont help. CALL DR. KAVORKIAN AND STOP EPIERS PAINFUL SLOW DEATH!

I recall seeing BVprez state in July they run "millions" of banner ads across the web and spend 20% of all "revenue" on advertising. He didn't say when this supposedly began. Hmmm, the Aug auction sales report hardly looked different from the June or July. The last 4 weeks reports are still missing.

Okay, so what's the Bidville approach to attracting traffic ... you know, the kind of folks that enter bids and click the "submit this bid" button?

"spend 20% of all "revenue" on advertising"

20% of nothing is nothing ...... even med school dropouts can figure that one out.

650,000 pop-up or banner ads can be displayed in a matter of minutes. Recent advertising trends on the net show that folks are not paying attention or clicking through the links. Take a close look at Yahoo, and other ad revenue sites.

"what's the Bidville approach to attracting traffic"

I linked to an old thread a few weeks ago where someone asked if site reps had ever posted here. Around the middle of this page
http://www.auctionwatch.com/mesg/read.html?num=33&id=5319&thread=4456

is this comment from 2/25 (poster Eddyodoc)
"There are a few other threads I want to address, such as our plan on attracting more bidders. However, since this is so long, I will wait a day or so and come back."

AW archives show he did not post again until 7/1. Interestingly that was the post in which he stated BV would begin the weekly sell-through stats page.

Aw Bidsbids, 20% of those $5 memberships is a buck. I'd guess they have at least 20 paying members. Maybe if we throw some other estimations out EddyO will return to chastise us again and provide the actual number.

WOW...more banner ads...LOL....while they are still charging a vm fee in order for a buyer to even be able to browse the adult sections and militaria items requiring the "verified" member status...broken down to mean...pay 20 bucks and you can view the very very graphic images of adult material...no holes barred...and I mean very explicit and graphic! Shoot, it's the cheapest porn in town!

I just realized this while trying to compare prices of vintage Field and Stream mags on different sites, I clicked on the books & magazine section to mens mags and all I got was very explicit nude centerfolds...uncensored hustlers, chick, oui, and countless others that most included the full nude images...no Field and Streams to be found...no Outdoor Life anywhere! I was curious why these images were allowed or wanted to be listed in the public areas and realized you have to be verified (pay a 20$ entrance fee) to even LOOK in the adult material so why would a seller want to list stuff there on a site struggling to even get bidders...how many would be willing to PAY TO LOOK...especially on an unknown site?

So I guess if ya have items that "don't" require being listed there...or if ya just put them out in the open for all to stumble across with ease, then maybe all those extra useless banners might help...shoot, they couldn't hurt at this point! I guess they feel it's better to keep buying banners (probably the poorest form of advertising available, but in their credit, at least they ARE doing it...or at least they "say" they are, and we all know they do what they say they will...lol) while the site still offers no DB protection or while the same security links remain broken for 9 months that I know of...or while they still have the same problems with deleting images not needed, I could go on but you can get the drift....and I guess as long as they can keep finding ways to get that dollar without providing adequate services, they feel they are building the site...I always thought it best to clean the house "before" inviting the guests to visit. Maybe if they fixed what is broken then maybe their efforts could be better appreciated....maybe

kasmoon,

So Bidville's PREZ used this AuctionWatch "other online auctions" forum on February 25 to let us know he would inform us about his plan to attract bidders? And then he was again on this forum on July 1 to announce that he was going to post a weekly sell-through report?

YIKES!

WHERZ THE PLAN ?

WHERZ THE REPORTZ ?

WHERZ THE BIDDERZ ?

Well Dimview, I dont know what yer beef with bidville is or why you persuit like (to quote a line from Herman Melville's Moby Dick)Cpt. Ahab "Who if his chest were a cannon, he would have shot his heart upon it", but I was talking about epier since (if you know anything about english & grammatics) is the Subject and the banners the object. the ,bidville???? is some fragment of a fragmented sentence and holds no place or meaning in the otherwise incomplete sentence. I was only saying that if ya got a car with a 1/2 tank of gas that gets 10mpg, and ya fill it up 100% full it aint gonna change the mpg. (rrrrrrrraaassssssppppppbbbbbeeeerrrrryyyy)

Russell,
You need to take pity on poor Dim, she does not have anything else to do but bash Bidville. Even the people who used to read her posts are now growing tired and yet they continue. Take pity on poor souls, they know no better.

One has to wonder why there's a handful of folks that insist on posting drivel to this (and other) threads about ePier and Bidville, contributing nothing substantive to the discussion.

Could it be that they are attempting to bury any discussion under their drivel?

I mean, really, dimview only asked three simple questions.

WHERZ THE PLAN ?

WHERZ THE REPORTZ ?

For the life of me I can not understand why people cheerlead a site that has almost no sales. If you look at the auctions and feedbacks of the "regulars" on the BV boards you will see that almost all selling is done amongst themselves. The site owner and administrator communicate with the site users only very rarely. At least we now know that even one million plus auctions does not translate into increase site traffic.

More specifically, there's been no cheerleading of any "other online auction" with the exception of Bidville.

I find that rather odd.

Maybe nobody likes ePier, so no one cheerleads. Or maybe some posters choose to just bash Bidville, which results in people defending it.

Bashing?

There's been quite a bit of discussion about ePier, so dimview asked three simple questions regarding Bidville:

WHERZ THE PLAN ?

WHERZ THE REPORTZ ?

WHERZ THE BIDDERZ ?

So here's your big chance, deichen and yankeejoe, and other Bidville "proponents" too, to post something relevant.

You should probably address those questions to Bidville management. Why do you refer to yourself in the third person?

Another day and *still* the questions remain regarding Bidville:

WHERZ THE PLAN ?

Bidville PREZ represented this would be outlined here seven months ago.

WHERZ THE REPORTZ ?

Bidville PREZ represented that sales data would be made available on his auctionsite weekly beginning in July but there's been nothing for four weeks.

WHERZ THE BIDDERZ ?

I'd advise any seller considering the auctionsite to visit the community to get a "feel" for the selling environment there. Some report slow sales, even no sales at all.

We do have the answer to these questions regarding ePier. ePier's plan is comprised of implementing a final value fee in order to fund advertising (they're currently running advertisements here at AuctionWatch); ePier's reports have been consistently posted on their auctionsite; and ePier's bidding rate indicates that there's been little new traffic generated from the advertisements to date.

Wonder where ePier is spending their Ad dollars? Hope it isn't entirely focused on banner Ads. You keep reading articles stating that banner advertising produces very limited results. Hope they start to use opt-in email lists like eBay, and BargainandHaggle are doing if they can't afford radio/TV/offline advertising. A user has to physically react to an opt-in email, whether opening, reading, deleting, or clicking the embedded link, whereas it's easy to become oblivious to a banner Ad. Few will totally ignore the opt-in email or it will sit there annoyingly highlighted until you take action. An email also peaks more interest than a banner Ad. Me, I have to open 98% of all the stinking emails I receive before I delete them. It's either never ending curiosity or a complex!
