You have to use some deductive reasoning......
1) makes no reference to Sharon promises.

At the time, the meeting was going on with Sharon and the other promising each other all these wonderful things. Meanwhile, Israel was actually continuing its terror campaign against the Palestinians.

2) makes no reference to "murder."

What do you call breaking into a home and killing someone simply because they were a suspect? If it isn't murder, then we could save our justice system billions of dollars in trial costs.

3) makes no conclusion that "Israel wants Hamas to disarm so they can kill Palestinians at will."

I heard that on the radio news after the incident happened, it was Hamas's response.

The attack you mentioned was in retaliation for an earlier Hamas attack which resulted in four Israeli soldiers killed. It happened right after the meeting w/Bush, Sharon and what's-his-name. Remember that, the one that was a joint effort with Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the PLO? Hamas stated reason was that Abbas didn't demand Jerusalem as the capitol of Palestine, or demand a right of return.

And it was not "murder" either. Two senior Hamas leaders were killed, though the target escaped.

Abbas hasn't taken the first step towards controlling terrorism and it's doubtful he can. That doesn't leave Israel many options. Bush is finding out that photo ops and scolding Israel won't bring peace to the Middle East.

I think it's time that a coalition of willing got heavy handed with Israel.
It'll be tough convincing, when some here won't admit that Zionists are well represented in , Holywood, PNAC, & wider USA.
Banking too, bless their souls.

80% of Palestinians have a favorable opinion of Osama Bin Ladin. You can't make peace with these folks. If the Palestinians want war, then the US should unleash Israel so that they can wage war and destroy all Palestinian resistance. They need to fight it out and get it over with.

Disproportionate force such as using Apache helicopters to kill children should not be funded by the US.

After listening to some interesting opinions on both sides of this thread, Here's my spin:
Hamas is known to conceal its illicit activities in areas populated by civilian non-combatants. This is similar to the tactics Saddam used in placing artillery near residential areas in Baghdad.
A particularly nasty habit Hamas has is the production of explosives in the refugee camps of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The explosive substance TATP used by so-called shoe-bomber Richard Reid was provided by Hamas, according to some accounts. If that explosive had ignited, it might well have caused the airliner involved to crash.
The US has a right to protect its interests, but it isn't funding Israeli attacks on Hamas.
I believe Israel made a huge error in attacking the Hamas leader earlier this week when the Road-Map Talks were still so fresh in everyone's minds. When there is a meeting between combatants, whoever breaks the cease-fire is going to be painted as the agressor. I know there are differing opinions as to who acted first, but in my mind, Israel should have avoided any appearance that they did so.
Israel should tone down its rhetoric and cease hostilities immediately to put the talks back to square one. They are a nation, not band of maniacal terrorists, and should be expected to conduct themselves accordingly.
After that, when Hamas inevitably resumes its hateful attacks on Israeli citizens and soldiers, Israel will be justified in conducting a full-on war with the terrorists.
War sucks. Killing sucks. So if you're going to pick a fight, be prepared for the consequences.

There is going to be no peace in the region until either Israel or the terrorists and their supporters are destroyed.

As Israel offers the only viable open democracy and is connected to western interests, the US should back Israel in every effort to quickly destroy any and all terrorist elements in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, then Syria and Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Responding disproportionately is irrelevant when dealing with terrorists. They will continue the terror regardless of disproportionate attacks. Complete and overwhelming destruction is the only way to deal with terrorists and end the terror.

I hope that the U.S. will promote a peace process in the Middle East. Kissinger's stalemate policy is not working. Violence has lost it's effectiveness and it's obvious now that keeping things the way they are and maintaining Palestinian oppression will not promote peace.

I doubt there will every be a true peace in the middle east. All we can do is try to stop it from spilling over here.

Many of the Arab, Moslem people have no regard for life. Their own or others. The Israeli's have no regard for the lives of the Arabs.

I know of many that are for the execution of the entire families of any of the suicide bombers. An awful thing....but one that may work.

As long as there's Terrorist filling the minds of the children with hate, there will be death in the middle east.
Amen,
Reverend Colin

This excerpt from an Internet news article I got today paints a grim picture of the prospects for Hamas' cooperation in any peace process:

- Israel and the Palestinians are resuming top-level security talks despite a bloody week of bombings and missile strikes that left 60 people dead on both sides, officials said Saturday.

On the table is a proposal that Israel withdraw from parts of the Gaza Strip to positions held before the outbreak of fighting in September 2000, officials on both sides said.

Israel also offered to halt military operations for three days to improve the atmosphere, a senior Palestinian official said.

Despite the planned talks, Abdel Aziz Rantisi, a hard-line Hamas leader, said Saturday his Islamic militant group would not halt its attacks against Israel.

"The word cease-fire is not in our dictionary," he said. "Resistance will continue until we uproot them from our home land."

Yikes!

There are only two options. Either Abbas reins in Hamas and the rest (not gonna happen) or Isreal will take whatever steps necessary to defend itself. There can be no negotiations with terrorists. Did Bush "negotiate" with Bin Laden?

Israel has no interest in harming innocent Palestinians. In the last attack on the rocket factory not a single person was injured. However, anyone "innocent" should think carefully about getting into a vehicle with a murdering Hamas leader.

Israel must close the borders once and for all, and tell the Palestinians, "take it or leave it." End of story.

What part of 400,000 illegal settlers don't you people understand??? If 400,000 sleazebags camped out in your backyard in America

We have an estimated 10 million illegal "settlers" here in the US and we haven't terrorized anyone yet. Not one American suicide bomber has exploded in any Latino neighborhood.

The "settlements" are the result of every Arab country surrounding Israel attacking Isarel and getting the Arab a**es kicked.

Israel has been very generous in returning lands, but not without using the land as a bargaining chip, which they have every right to do.

If the Arab nations that attacked Israel had won, does anyone think they would give any of the land back ?

If the terrorism doesn't stop, Israel should push all Arabs back into Jordan and take everything, Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

Well Canada, America and several other countries haven't tried to exterminate Latinos or destroy Mexico. That is what the Arab terrorists are trying to do.

Sleazy ? There is a picture of Yassar Arafat in the dictionary to illustrate what sleazy is.

Your problem is that you have a hatred for Jews, and is the disease that is fueling the problems in the middle east.

Instead of posting on this board, why don't you seek some help for your mental illness ?

Reamond,
As far as I understand, the Judeo people will not get to keep the land promised them by their God, because they have breached the contract with their God by killing innocent people.
Isn’t that what your Torah teaches you?

More to the truth 1”, Israel could do anything and YOU'd be for it.
Just as you recently suggested that America deserved the Israeli attack on he USS COLE.

You obviously have no problem consolidating your US/Israelite Identity and allegiance.
