davebraun, every state has its own programs, you will need to look for them and see what is available.

No one here has admitted that the reason the wages have dropped are becuase with all of Clinton's "support" wages were artificially inflated and are now returning to where they should be.

and Neon, that is why they call it work, not play.

oh and you can thank Clinton for NAFTA...

I am wondering if this wasn't Cheryl or some other "single" mother, which I believe has stated has a "live-in" boyfriend, and it was a single male making the same wages would you all be up in "arms"???

And there it is folks....Blame Clinton!

By the way 12-pole....NAFTA was negotiated and finalized under the GHW Bush admin. Clinton just let it happen like all the neo-con wanted.... You know them, your heroes, they set it up. And now you are going to blame Clinton for it. How could it be Clinton's fault, please tell us, he wasn't even President yet? It was one of the major campaign issues of THE BUSH REPUBLICAN PARTY during BUSH-CLINTON-PEROT CAMPAIGN. It was only Perot who saw what it was going to do.

Oh Yes, You Lose AGAIN!

::and Neon, that is why they call it work, not play::

Twelve - what is it that you are referring to in this statement?

::I am wondering if this wasn't Cheryl or some other "single" mother, which I believe has stated has a "live-in" boyfriend, and it was a single male making the same wages would you all be up in "arms"???::

Wow - you usually hide your bias against women a little better than this. The answer to your question is yes. I am disturbed anytime any person with the skilld and desire to work is unable to find it or is paid less than a living wage for a skilled job.

Example. A recent study in San Diego showed that a single person must earn $12.85 an hour to break above the proverty level. A basic requirement for any graphic design job in SD is a BA in design. The average starting wage.... $10 an hour. Don't you find it ridiculous that with an average % raise per yearthat it would take 7 years to raise above the poverty level and this is not taking into effect cost of living increases which will raise that poverty level bar even farther. Don't you find it even more ridiculous that is takes a BA to earn the honor of living below the poverty level for all of that time?

Twelve, I work with some of those males and yes, I am "up in arms" about them also. My "live-in" boyfriend does not support me or my children. I pay my own way. Thankfully, eBay helps a lot.

With all due respect, twelvepole, you have not yet answered my challenge.

I asked you to name one area that had experience overall growth in jobs that pay a living wage. I didn't ask you which jobs were in demand, I told you.

Even allowing for the growth in demand in those two fields, I suspect there are very few parts of this country that have seen growth in the number of decent jobs, or have enough decent jobs to employ all the people in this country.

And frankly, don't you find it ridiculous that your argument depends on people suddenly acquiring skills that take a 2-4 year cycle of formal education to master? The fact is that most out-of-work employees do have a skill, just like Cheryl and Neon.

Or my brother-in-law. He grew up in a factory town. His father was an engineer, his mother an executive secretary. In their careers, they made enough to buy a comfortable home and save plenty for retirement.

My brother-in-law has two certificates: Safety engineer and machinist. It was expected, for a long time, that he would take his father's place as the plant safety chief when his dad retired. He and my sister bought a modest house a few years ago.

Instead, he's out of work. The plant, like so many others, moved to Mexico. He was one of the lucky ones; he got a decent severance package. Many of the plant workers were just pink-slipped. The only other income they have right now is my sister's salary as a restaurant manager.

They know they'll take a $25,000 or more loss on their house if they have to sell it. Yet my brother-in-law has been searching nationwide for a job. He's been to two interviews, one in Arizona, one in New Jersey. Both times he was told there were dozens of applicants for the job and "we'll get back to you."

Ahh my apologies msingonito...

Well from what information I can gather and based only a few SKILLED/DEGREED jobs...

Atlanta Georgia, Columbus, Ohio,(look at help wanted ads online)

Those are two places... but I will place the caveat it is only a few areas... so probably wouldn't help Cheryl or those like her...

OTH as I have conceded before... unskilled labor is not growing and probably won't as long as we send jobs across the border or over seas... Dell has sent 90% of their Tech help to India...
But as I have seen wages are coming back inline to what they should be... not over inflated.

As with life, employer loyalty is nil, and very few people will retire from the job they started with.
