Most R&D today is done in University labs funded by the government and then GIVEN to the drug companies for free(thanks for that wonderful campaign donation, Pfizer). Drug companies pay for very little R&D nowadays. But you pay millions every year.... Well, they do have to fill out the FDA application....But your government is working on that, where FDA approval won't be needed, until somebody dies.

Once again some wish not only to enforce their paranoid veiw on society by removing but in this case by not offering any choice whatever.
Restricting the pharmaceutical solicitation of doctors and eliminating advertising aimed at patients would likely decrease the popular pressure that supports inflated prices and unnecessary drugs.
Price controls, which the Bush administration opposes, would help the Medicare system gain lower drug prices, but why stop there? Congress should alsochange the laws that prohibit the importation of prescription drugs from other countries, where they are less expensive. The Senate on Friday endorsed importation from Canada; the House should follow suit. Such cross-border buying is one of the main reasons drug prices in Europe remain low. Across the continent, pharmacies import drugs from other countries that have negotiated a lower price.
