Thanks but I understand why this has appeal to parents (and I frequently agree with kraftdinner, just not this time. ) This idea plays on parents' deepest fears. I don't have a child, but I imagine that once you do, you think "nothing's too outlandish if it keeps them safe."

I tend to agree - but the problem with this idea - like the other "safety measures" I mentioned - is that it doesn't really keep them safe from the threats they're most likely to face. It's easy for a woman to imagine her child being snatched on the street, but impossible for her to conceive that her own father may be molesting her children - especially if he did it to her, too, and she's blocked the memory out.

Nevertheless, this idea is being talked about around the Web: here and here and here. That last link is a pretty good example of the marketing tricks these companies use to hawk their wares.

You're right msincognito. This device would only be good for when a child goes missing and not much more. It wouldn't be a baby-sitter or anything. Like you, I don't have children, so I don't worry for myself, but when you hear/read about child abductions, whether by a stranger or a family member, and you know that eventually most pedophiles will eventualy get out of prison, I do wonder if such a thing would be a good thing. If a child molester didn't know whether a child had an implant or not, he might be less likely to commit a crime... just maybe.

Maybe we could get those stickers ... you know, like the ones people put on their cars or houses...."This car protected by the Black Widow anti-theft early warning deterrent system." What that translates to is "This car protected by a sticker that makes you think it has an alarm system when it doesn't."

You could buy a pack of temporary tattoos:
"This kid protected by Littlejack."

You might be on to something msincognito! Maybe some chip that can be attached or sewn into clothes or shoes. I could see that becoming a big industry.

Nah, no chip. Just a sticker that lies about the existence of a chip.

They need to put the chips in pedophiles, murderers, robbers,Drug dealers etc.etc. 90% don't do enough time in jail. If your convicted you get a chip. They should lose their right for freedom.......not the children

What a great idea! I think it's more important to know where these people are. So often the authorities lose track of them and you are right, I think by doing what they've done they should lose their right to privacy.

Nobody explored the fact when the kid becomes a teenager you can track to see if they REALLY went to the mall. And you can see if they are hanging out with others you don't approve. I can see kids walking around in aluminum foil to cut the electronic leash. (Yes the dread foil beenie)
