So, I guess the best way to deal with you is to reward your decent comments with a reply and ignore the negative, insulting ones.

Reminds me of days with my two year old.

Sorry you took it as a barb.
I really meant it as a point of agreement.
I thought you saw the absurd also no matter which side of this fence you were on. As it applies to the non-smokers as well as the inhalers.
Sometimes it is hard to take meaning from a simple typed line with no face, no voice, and no body language. Smilies don't do it.

Actually it reminds me of you Helen... you don't like getting insulted but you sure do enjoy dishing them out... go figure... I guess you being anti-american means you can try to get away with that...

Update: My two smokers decided to free themselves up for new opportunities...

I wished them luck and escorted both to the door.

But the bright side is I already had placed a contract with a Temp agency to get one additional person... now it will just be three....

It was made plain to the Temp agency that NO Smoker is wanted...

Twelve - I wish you tons of luck! I tried the temp agency route once. 1 position, 2 weeks, 7 different people... not one worth having. Came to two conclusions....

1) Temp agencies pay NO attention to customers requests (I had a minium typing speed requirement - 3 of the people they sent typed at half of what we asked for)
2) There is a reason that most temp workers are temp... they lack the skills and/or personality to be a desired full time employee.

Admittedly, in the current market this situation may be a little different with so many good and qualified people out of work. For your sake, I hope it is.

A warning about temps and agencies trying to reform welfare scum and get them back into the work force. If it's a young mother with kids and she is sincere in her desires you will know right away if you have good instincts.

I hired 3 beautiful teens, honor students from well-to-do families. They worked their little butts off, they had tons of friends and they all shopped in my store. They knew what teens wanted and were an asset to my biz. Best thing was that they were honest and loyal. If I got sick they ran things. In return I saw them through lovesickness, break-ups, beauty pageants, and body piercings. They confessed everything to me, their sex lives, wild parties and secret tattoos. I knew more about them than their parents will ever know. They went on to University but came back and worked for me each summer and now they work and travel the world and we keep in touch. If I sound silly here sometimes I was greatly influenced by them.

Temps? They suck. My advice. Give teens a chance if your type of work could use them. Pick honor students. Young people have a different outlook on life than us old farts and they have new ideas.

Are teens too old to run the lemonade stand, twelvepole? JUST KIDDING. I hope your new temps are good ones.

Oh ya, none of these girls has ever smoked............ not tobacco.

Thanks for the advice... I will try the temp route anyway, as teens will not work.

And it will give me a chance to evaluate them to see if they will be a good fit...

If the economy were booming, doubt I would go the temp route, but am betting some good people are waiting...

Yes, fenix made a very good point. With the economy the way it is now you may have a good chance to find someone who actually has work ethics and will be an asset to you.

Let us know how they work out.

A warning about temps and agencies trying to reform welfare scum

A bit harsh isn't it? When I was going through Cancer treatments (Chemo) and raising two kids, I was one of your welfare scum.

Temp agencies used to be a good place to get good workers. I was a temp for many years. I'm a CPS (Certified Professional Secretary). I worked temp because with two children at home it afforded me the flexibility I needed at the time. But, this was back in the 1970s-1980s. I was offered a permanent position at every job I worked. Glad I learned they've changed. I was going to hire a temp to replace my receptionist at work while she's on vacation. Think I'll just do the job myself.

Twelve, some of the colleges also have programs for employers to hire college students. I believe there are tax breaks or other incentives attached. You might want to check it out.

Cheryl, to clarify this I know all people on welfare are not scum. Some of my best friends have been on welfare and I never for a second considered them scum. Some have been in drug treatment programs also and I have never considered them scum.

Like I said, if someone on welfare comes to you and wants to work you will know almost right away if they are sincere in their desire to improve their lives.

You will also know the ones that I refer to as welfare scum, out for a free ride and with the attitude that the rest of society owes them a living and they scam the system every chance they get. The only reason they walk in your door is because the system told them to get off their azz and work or else it is just another opportunity for them to rip someone else off while they work for them.

The very best to you, Cheryl. You have proven your value on these boards and shown your true character..... you will never be considered scum by me or anyone else and you know that.

Power to Cheryl. Power to all the Cheryls in this world, right on.

Basically, I think that the misunderstanding here is with the use of the demeaning term, "welfare scum". Actually, the people that you are referring to as "scum" can be found in every economic strata of society from the destitute on welfare to the very wealthy. Unfortunately, temporary agencies, who are expected to sort them out, are not always successful but it's been my experience that they do a very good job.

You are correct, Helen.

I shouldn't even use that expression. I know what I mean when I use that term because I know the element of society I am referring to.

But yes, I agree it does seem to lump everyone together, even the down-on-their luck wonderful people and this thread is a prime example of why I should no longer use that term.

My experience with temps was quite a few years back so hopefully things have changed.

Just so you know, I have had my B&M for many years and I no longer have hair long enough to sit on.

LOL! Kiara.

I can tell that you are much too wise to be sitting on your hair.

I think that the temp agencies tend to send their best applicants to larger organizations and relegate the less qualified to small business. If Twelvepole has 40 employees, he may qualify for the best!

When you refer to "welfare scum" I really hope you mean people like Enron, Worldcom, Tyco, the Airlines and these other corporations that received free taxpayer dollars in amounts that social welfare cheats can only DREAM of. All the time, showing incredible profits every year and still getting corporate welfare.

Helen, we all spend so much time here we could all be writing books and there are others here with much more eventful lives than mine has ever been.

I have been seriously thinking about whether my next little reform project should be on Twelvepole. Or is there any hope?

Helen, I've decided some projects aren't worth the effort or energy and I will include Twelvepole. I took in an abused 8 yr old, my worst offender and I fought the system to keep him and they didn't allow it.

I see Vendio Round Table says A place to kick back, so I take this opportunity.

A message for Twelvepole. If your purpose in life is to sit here and lie and call me a scammer and a lackey and say I stink and if you choose to see no redeeming qualities in me at all and then brag about your big balls and penis size I will tell you this.

Not that I ever looked but I know that those kids, even at 8 yrs old had bigger ones than yours. And I know, wherever they are today (I don't know) they are getting more girlie action in one day than you'll see in a lifetime.

So I say, treat me like I have feelings, treat me with some respect and I will do the same back to you if I can control myself.

OR F off and die and get off my case. I'm not entirely cruel so when I say that, go F yourself first so you get some pleasure along the way.

If Vendio boots my sorry azz over this I don't really care. I hope they boot your azz along the way. I'll get great pleasure kicking it with my CFMP's as we go. Deal?

And in case you don't know what CFMP's are, Helen will guide you.

I don't know where that last post came from Kiara... you off your meds?

But I don't make "deals" with people... you don't like my posting tough sh*t.

Oh and as far as "girlie" action... that is something you'll never have my pleasure of...

I don't know about balls... but I do know it doesn't take many brains to stick a loaded gun in your mouth... maybe he should of asked for smaller balls and ask for more brains...
