YOU WILL NEVER BE SAFE AGAIN!!!

After reading that rather hysterical sounding post by a poster here I got to thinking....and some of you know that that is not always a good thing.

Anywho...do you really feel as though you will never be safe again? Do you feel THAT MUCH less safe now driving to work or eating dinner at your table or visiting a friend than you ever did?
Surely we are not so much less safe than we were prior to 9-11.Cars still crash, airliners too, earthquakes still cause death and destruction as do hurricanes and tornadoes.Let us not forget mosquitoes and West Nile virus and all the other viral and bacteriological diseases that could "get us" in a moment. One meteorite, well placed , could kill millions.

How much less safe do you feel? 90%? 75% ? 25% ? 10%? None?
????

I guess I haven't read the hysterical sounding post you're referring to.

What are you talking about?

I believe it's human nature to want to feel safe. We do things all the time to make ourselves feel safe, as much as we can. But there's a lot of things in life we have no control over. Although there are somethings we can control to varying degrees.

I feel no less safe today.

LOL! Rawbunzel

I've been scrolling past those hysterical posts made by Orleansgallery.

Actually, I feel relatively safe.

I will be much happier when George W. Bush is out of office though.

LindaK, t'was a Orleansgallery post. Purposly meant to sound that way I'm sure. BUT it did get me to thinking. I keep reading where people say they are afraid, that they do not feel safe..well..I feel the same as I always did. I never did feel safe flying and I still don't but no less so than before 9-11..
I believe there are some people that ,by virtue of where they work or live, may be less safe than they used to be but the majority of folks are no less safe than they ever were.

Was just wondering how others felt about it.

As far as 5 more years of Bush? That remains to be seen.

I don't feel less safe necessarily. No terrorists out here in the bushes...no ashcroft cops either. But I do find myself making sure there is ammo for every available firearm in the house, something I never used to do. I have always disliked crowds and closely populated spaces. A town of any size has always seemed inherently dangerous to me, ditto shopping malls, airports and (shudder) crowded sporting events. I do, however, think the REST of you are less safe.

I'm with Prof -
I never have felt safe in a crowd. More people who are a danger and not very likely one who would help.
Since well BEFORE 9/11 the wife and I decided going to Washington on the Mall was too dangerous to visit the Smithsonian, National Portrait Gallery etc. Too much of a soft target.
And no way in hell will I go spend 2 or 3 hours being scrutinized to climb on a cramped over priced airliner. Auto traffic is still my biggest risk. And yes I to have ammo on hand and a little extra sealed up and buried where I can get it if all of it in my house is disappeared.

But how many people can calmly gage risk when the terror allert graph flickers from color to color and the news show ever night calmly speaks of the war on terror as if it really means something? Very few.

I never said I was SCARED - I just said safety is now the issue. Not individual safety as much as collective safety of western civilization.

BIg C - you are really going off the deep end here. I mean I admire your energy to seek out information but don't let it turn you into a paranoid conspiracy person. That a very lonely, alienated way of looking at the world.

We all have different perceptions.

What may appear funny to some, for example, may represent to others a big mouth load of crap finagling for much needed attention.

The public is subjected to the continual marketing of fear via the evening news. Be it the latest kidnapping, heinous crime, act of terrorism. Whatever. The interesting thing is that although people are more fearful of violent crime in general the crime rate is lower than it has been at other times historically.

I am aware of my enviornment but not particularly fearful of my neighbors.

Dave braun, a man without a tagline. Menancing in his posts, and unafraid to name call and humilate anyone who does not agree with his position.

I thought about you last night while I was dropping skinny spaghetti noodles in a pot of boiling hot water. Is DaveB your real name? It sounds so manly , like you wear flannel shirts and have hairy arms. I suspect you are a star trek fan and read books about Hobbits and sport a beard.

OR on the other hand you are a man suffering in a womans body. AM I right?

Hellen,
Yes I crave attention at every moment. I even talk to myself in the car and fantasize I am one of the most hated talk radio people in America. But alas, this can not be so I am doomed only to sit on this board and chat with other internet junkies and lonley hearts such as yourself.

Hey, if you have an Eckerds in your area, they are running a special on hair dye. Don't know if they have blue, but they might.

Orleans, You've mentioned shaved legs and arms in four or five posts so far. Why are you so obsessed about this issue? Do you have a problem with body hair?
I'm not a lonely hearts with blue hair but when I become old and need advice about shades of blue, I'll come straight to you for advice. LOL!

Now, now, I am "fighting a hard battle". Perhaps I am what you say but deep down inside I am struggling and its hard you know. I cry at night. I get sad when flowers die, its all too much.

Are you straying from your TAGLINE? you are suppose to be kind to EVERYONE - even me.

Live up to your tagline and don't name call!

Actually Helen, I do think about hair a great deal. Hair is meaningful yet so overlooked in this contemporary, shaven republican era.

As I was growing up in the late 60's and 70's, hair was a political statement. Hair meant somthing back then.

Hair has become meaningless and it bothers me. I look at my legs and think why should I shave them. I should let the hairs grow long and flowing, even my pits. Hair is earthy and hair is cool. We need a hairy society again and get in touch with our primal selves. Materialism would cease and HAIR could be our guide.

Do you relate?

Other than a world run by Orleans, I am not scared of much. I don't think I'll be flying much in the US but that is because of all the new regulations, not safety reasons.
