Who....ME??
She Who Must Be Obeyed has declared that today is the day we decorate the ranchhouse. I think there are some fences on the upper range that need to be checked, but I'll sure help out as soon as I get back!
We haven't shopped for anything yet, but it'll be pretty easy. A new pickup for me, a roping saddle for the boy, money for the girls, and a new rolling pin for the Señora
We actually have a little extra time...we follow the old tradition here...small presents on Noche Buena (christmas eve), big gifts don't come until Three Kings Day, January 6th.

bunnicula
Glad I could help. Personally, I don't think there is anything better than a tin of homemade cookies and candy!! Yummy! Besides, anyone can go to the store and buy something already made. It takes time, effort and love to do the homemade thing. I'm doing that for my step-grandmother this year because I don't know what you buy a 90-year-old woman who has everything (besides a 90-year-old man)

::and a new rolling pin for the Señora ::
You truly are one hombre valiente to buy your one and only a potential weapon. I think a gringa would beat you with that rolling pin after reading this thread.
BTW - You better be nicer to this boyfriend or she isn't going to bring the next one home for your evaluation.

bunnicula, I am so sorry to hear about your greyhound!
Homemade cookies are a great idea!
Or if you have or can get mason jars, do what my daughter is doing. Basically all you need is flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking powder and soda, the dry ingredients, and layer those with the recipe for the person receiving it to make them. You top the mason jars off with scraps of holiday or any fabric. It looks cool too!

nah, she never had one...but she finally put her foot down and told me and the kid if we wanted our tortillas hand stretched, we could hand stretch 'em our pinche selves! (she did that about ironing our T shirts too...women, go figure...) So we're getting her a rolling pin, as a joke, and this:
She takes her tortillas very seriously, almost like a mexicana would. When the girls come, she'll be standing over them like a drill sargeant making sure they pull and pat them out just right, and if the boy and I tease her about refusing to hand make ours, she'll deny it!
Now before you get your backs up ladies, that machine isn't the only thing she's getting. Oh, not by a long shot.......
I'm having the local blacksmith make her a new set of fireplace tools!!

mmmm! Homemade tortillas -YUM! Now you have gone and done it... The restaurant next door has fantastic fajitas with real handmade tortillas... guess my dinner plans are now made with a little carbo coma inspired nap afterwards... I'd curse you if I it didn't actually sound like an excellent way to spend an evening in the SoCal drizzle.
