Rekindling bitter memories, Democratic leaders and presidential candidates accused President Bush of stealing the 2000 election in Florida and pledged Saturday to avenge that loss next year
I wonder if voters want to avenge? just a question
Sen. Carol Moseley Braun cited illness for missing the event and Al Sharpton skipped it to host NBC's "Saturday Night Live."
Saturday Night Live IMO is more importand
"I wasn't a public figure" in 2000, Clark said. "I was a retired general who was writing a book." Asked why he helped raise money for a party that he believed illegitimately seized the White House, Clark said, "Because I believe that this country needed to move on, just like Vice President Gore said."
I think it is a book about Time Travel, and he'll be on coast to coast very soon talking about it Actually, the General should go 'back in time' and 'fix things' since he feels so strongly
"People want their leaders ... to talk about the future. They don't want anger and pessimism and personal attacks. They want a positive vision from leaders looking forward," Reed said.
As if to underscore that the recount left a bitter residue on American politics, several Democrat delegates swarmed Reed's informal news conference and chanted "No GOP!"
Ok lets get rid of the Republican Party... maybe our GOP ornaments will sell better with it gone....
I'm being silly here, but what the hey

I think all democrats and republicans should be shipped off to an island and have fist fights with each other until there is a winner. The winner should become President.

I thought they had threatened to do this is 2002? [get revenge] So they're going to try again, huh? New platform issue....revenge. LOL
Reed is correct...."People want their leaders ... to talk about the future. They don't want anger and pessimism and personal attacks. They want a positive vision from leaders looking forward."

And there you have the #1 problem with ALL the Democratic canditates. All any of them have going for them is that they aren't Bush.
We don't know what they stand for. But they are against Bush. We don't know what they believe, but it's gotta be the opposite of Bush.
ANTI-Bush is all they have. And despite protesters, Bush isn't all that bad.

That was pretty good Linda
I esp. like the opening line in the article:
Rep. Dick Gephardt referred to something he called"non same-sex marriage."By that, he apparently meant what other people refer to simply as "marriage."
non same-sex marriage?
is this a new PC term or what?

Every promise that George Bush made has been broken and all systems have failed under his administration-- domestic, education, foreign policy, environment and the economy.
You see a slight improvement in the otherwise failed economy and rejoice.
You see a president who declares mission accomplished while dead soldiers are shipped home daily in transfer tubes and you are thrilled with a two hour turkey visit.
When George Bush is defeated in 2004, you will see that most Americans are not so easily duped
Why are you concerned about an election rally with the theme of avenging the last bungled election which resulted in significant and potentially irreparable harm to our country and to the world? You can do better than that, nearthesea.

Why am I concerned about this 'avengement' by the Dems?
I'm not. I posted it here, because, its stupid. There's my answer. I think it ridiculus. And, the debates these 9 ? have had are just bickering and basically all they have to say, is they are ANTI BUSH
btw didn't a Senator or Congressman in that bunch vote on the Iraq war? and now is using it as a 'platform' for candidacy, by saying they totally disagee with it? sounds a little, um whats the word
hypocritical I think
What are any of their issues... besides Dean, who wants socialized healthcare?

If you missed the candidates position during the debates etc, just click on "issues" on their web sites. The candidates who voted for the Iraq war based their votes on Bush's information claiming WMD in Iraq. That information was later found to be deliberately false.

Ok they all have their own websites to let you know what their platform is
When I see commercials (and that is one of the biggest places the majority of people see these candidates) they all are about: I don't agree with the war. or some other anti Bush theme.
Except Dean (though he does that also), who, like I said before, most people know he's for universal healthcare (socialized)
Its a pretty sure bet that Dean will be the one to run in 2004.
Right now, I think that I'll wait for Dean to debate Bush.

I don't think that you can call this socialism, nearthesea.Dean's Health Plan
"With the plan I've put forth to the American people, we'll organize a system nearly identical to the one federal workers and members of Congress enjoy. And we'll enable all employers with less than 50 workers to join it at rates lower than are currently available to these companies -- provided they insure their work force. I'll also offer employers a deal: The federal government will pick up 70% of COBRA premiums for employees transitioning out of their jobs, but we'll expect employers to pay the cost of extending coverage for an additional two months. These two months are often the difference between workers finding the health coverage they need, or joining the ranks of the uninsured."
"Finally, to ensure that the maximum number of American men, women and children have access to healthcare, we must address corporate responsibility. There are many corporations that could provide healthcare to their employees but choose not to. The final element of this plan is a clear, strong message to corporate America that providing health coverage is fundamental to being a good corporate citizen. I look at business tax deductions as part of a compact between American taxpayers and corporate America. We give businesses certain benefits, and expect them to live up to certain responsibilities."
"I believe this plan is sensible and that it can pass Congress -- but most importantly, I believe that it is the right thing to do. When my wife, Judith Steinberg, and I graduated from medical school, we took an oath in which we pledged to practice our profession with conscience and dignity and to always make the health of our patients our first consideration. With this plan, and in my campaign for the presidency, I will make the health of all Americans my first priority. Our country has waited too long, and we must do better."

I believe we will have a new president next year for the following reason. I was at both the Democratic and Republican fall dinners, and the republicans are mad at bush just as much as the democrats. The biggest rifts the repubs had was the massive spending, and doing nothing to stop the factories from leaving. On a positive note for the democrats many repubs were actually praising Howard Dean which suprised the heck out of me. I live in a solid republican area, so dont be suprised next year if Dean sneaks in.

Dean will bit himself in the ass. Watch and see!! Then all you Dems have left is Big Al (I'm not talking Gore either.)

Doubtful. I remember a time when conservatives were mad at their president just like now. They also said the democrat would lose bigtime. The year was 1992.
