sorry NTS - one last one.

You continue to avoid answering my questions by changing the subject.

YOU continue asking a million questions about every subject under the sky....trying to make it appear that you are so much more caring than I. What a load of crap.

There are all different types of plans for medical insurance Helen.

Our friends, lost their business, to competition. So they had less money. They went and got (in our state anyway) State Basic Insurance. She pays something like $30 a month for the two of them. She has a co pay for a dr visit like $5 or $10 and very small co pay for prescriptions. That is them

Then there IS medicaid, for those, not just those on welfare. If your income is low, you can qualify for medicaid.

so what *I* see is there is no reason someone should be without.

You are saying you 'opted' out of insurance, thats your descision. If you can afford it, great.

In our own family, with just the two of us, we have insurance. I just can't justify NOT having it. What if one of us has to go into the hospital for major surgery? I cannot see paying that out of any savings. I have had 3 major surgeries in the last 5 years, and do expect to have more, I cannot see going without ins. in this house. Mikes not getting any younger, and anything could happen. Its just a fact of life here to be fully insured.

And like I said above there are insurance programs for those who cannot afford it.

Nearthesea,

I made it perfectly clear that the period covered was 10 years. See the dates in parenthesis?

From U.S. to Canada....51,435 (1991-2001)

There is a lot of exaggeration in the article that you posted. But that's typical in a personal interest article. For example, how was it documented that all of the people who left were intelligent or constituted a "Brain Drain"

I'd think doctors would be considered 'brains'. They're leaving....for better pay to the US....to have the ability to give better patient care too.

Helen, in this article, it says the GOVERNMENT nicknamed it the 'Brain Drain'

And its not the first time that I've heard Canadians leaving.... I read a couple months ago, how a LOT of doctors are leaving there and coming here, and NOT just for the money, they don't want the gov't deciding what is best for their patients, they as drs, believe they know what is, and found they could do their job better here.

LOL Linda, I think we posted at the same time...

I just got back, and logged on, when Helen veered off onto the immigration status of U.S. and Canadians.... and the Dems Candidates status on healthcare, but thats fine..

Ok it may be 'typical' of a 'personal interest' story.... but I believe you post personal interest stories and op ed pieces all the time. So your point is?

My point is, don't take one writer's personal interest tale so seriously when it can't be documented.

"I just got back, and logged on, when Helen veered off onto the immigration status of U.S. and Canadians.... and the Dems Candidates status on healthcare, but thats fine"

If you read the thread, you will see that Linda brought up the possibility of socialized medicine here. I just straightened out that misconception.

helen - wake up time....

Canada's health care WAS mentioned in the first post of this thread.

And go buy your own insurance....don't expect me to pick up your tab. You might want the government being your nanny on every thing but I don't.

Which needs to be documented, and what do you consider being documented?

On Brain Drain... just stuck that into Google just now, didn't even read all of them to know, that IT IS being talked about, apparantly by their Government too

So tell that to nearthesea. She thought I was off topic, apparently.

"And go buy your own insurance....don't expect me to pick up your tab. You might want the government being your nanny on every thing but I don't."

You are always bringing up personal issues to discuss any topic. I have already stated that I have no need of anyone's money. On the other hand, there are poor people in this country through no fault of their own who can't afford health care. Medicaid helps some but does not cover all such situations. How can you can make fun of poor families with children and call the government their nanny? How mean and uncaring can you be.

helen - again....I sometimes give you too much credit.

It wasn't NTS, it was me.

YOU DID GO OFF TOPIC by asking questions that weren't in ANY of the paragraphs of the thread's first post.

But....far be it from to try and run any of the threads differently than the way YOU want them to go.

LOL Linda

And Helen, no the whole 'topic' wasn't about healthcare, if you read it, taxes, bilingualism, AND healthcare

you think I liked posting that, where she is obviously putting down SEATTLE, the place I grew up and live?

and Starbucks (actually I can't stand the stuff, but hey thats the company Mike works for now, they bought out Seattle Best Coffee! so don't tell him I don't like it )

I said that I CHOSE not to afford it Linda.

LOL helen - Why don't you post the one where you said it would cost you the amounts I quoted?

But...the point is you have NO insurance. You want some form of National Health Care....that would make you insured. Since you don't work..YOU wouldn't be paying for your NEW insurance coverage.

Admit it...you want to be a 'free-loader'.

Oh, I just noticed how you 'insure' yourself.
You put the money in the bank.

I WISH I HAD THAT kind of money, and still live ok!

You do know the costs of a lot of surgerys, hospital stays, and treatments now? That you *might* have to have, and I said MIGHT. you may never have to use your money, but you could.
