The story of a vCJD case in Florida ...girl exposed while in England.

One of the major outstanding questions about vCJD is the incubation period. It appears to be five to 15 years. But similar diseases have incubation periods of as many as perhaps 40 years, leaving open the possibility that a wave of new victims could occur in coming decades.

Good! Then I hope my 2 buddies, Helen and Linda, see the irony in my sarcasm.

According to Festinger's theory of cognitive dissonance I don't believe that you can call two such people as diametrically opposed as Helen and Linda your "buddies". You need to hate one of us. LOLOL!

Festinger's theory is like the half empty/half full glass. Most people feel they have to choose one or the other and that, depending on which you choose, they're assigned different meanings. A smart person would choose neither and say the glass is both half empty and half full, which is the correct answer.

Wrong, That's not the theory that I'm referring to. You called us buddies...You, me and linda. There is significant dissonance in that group. In order to think well of yourself and maintain a good balance, you will have to kick me out of the group.

That's OK. I'll survive.

Let's return to the topic!

Linda

Loosen up and laugh a little bit! We are just joking. If that's childish, then I am just a kid. Hahaha!

To ME, both you and Linda are MY buddies, which doesn't mean we are all buddies with one another. Actually, I think of everyone here as my buddy, even the mental ones.

Hey! I resemble that remark!

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

450 Calves To Be Killed
Includes offspring of mad cow case

Washington - A herd of 450 calves that includes the month-old offspring of a Washington state dairy cow infected with mad cow disease will be destroyed as a safety precaution, the U.S. Agriculture Department said yesterday.

USDA officials could not identify which animal was the offspring and so all the calves were to be destroyed. Killing the herd is a measure intended to reassure consumers that the U.S. food supply is safe. The Bush administration is also trying to restore confidence among more than two dozen trading partners that halted some $3.2 billion in annual U.S. beef shipments after the deadly disease was found last month.

"We have made a decision to depopulate those bull calves sometime this week," USDA chief veterinarian Ron DeHaven told reporters. "Approximately 450 animals will be sacrificed."

The planned slaughter leaves at least 4,000 other cattle linked to the mad cow investigation still under quarantine.

The calves will be killed at an idle slaughter plant and samples of each will be saved in case scientists need to analyze them. No tests to detect the brain-wasting disease are planned at this time, DeHaven said.

???

Let a noodle fall into a vat of soup, and America's food-safety net is there to catch it. But let a cow too sick to walk be slaughtered and shipped off to supermarkets—well, that's all perfectly legal under the watchful eye of the USDA

In fact if you ask them to please do so they will close their eyes and cover their ears and chant -NAH NAH NAH NAH real loud so they can't hear you.

If you go to CNN they have a site to submit questions by e-mail that can be considered in a Sat. show.

Thanks gravid. I'll be emailing in my question...

Why would Canada be so unbelieveably irresponsible as to export beef to the U.S. when they knew they were dealing with a fatal disease that could possibly be affecting more than the 1 or 2 cows that showed symptoms?

You could also ask why the United States would import cows from Canada when they knew that they could possibly be dealing with a fatal disease -- then, fail to test the cows or innoculate them against the disease.

I combined both questions, Helen and sent it off to CNN! If picked, it'll be aired at 8:30 am this Saturday and Sunday.
