are pushing a proposal that would allow the state to disregard gay unions performed elsewhere.

I'm going to have to go re-read the Marriage Protection Act, because I thought that was already established in that bill that clinton signed.

"The only thing I saw at the picnic was a piss ant."

Odd. Twelvepole cabled his regrets that he was unable to attend...

That's easily explained. If twelvepole had attended I would have seen two piss ants.

Linda, thanks for the compliment but I am probably just a humanitarian at heart; or maybe just stupid enough to repeat what has been conveyed to me by those I've known, and try to examine my own feelings on it in a public forum. I dont really have any solution. As pointed out, if it went to a vote, gays would lose simply because they are a minority. I dont hold the view that majority of views are aways right or that our representatives really represent us anymore.

Pat, my brother used to have a saying, "What it is, is what it is."
That always infuriated everyone. What does that mean, I would say? That doesnt mean anything!!!

But now I think it means if you want to take something that "is" and make it what it isnt, than that what is becomes a was and no longer an is. ?am I making sense? I am probably not articulating that right and you probably know more about that concept than me with your experience with guru's and spirituality.

I am sympathic to gay rights. If anyone hasnt noticed they pay taxes, they vote, they work, they buy, they f/u in society AND make contributions to society just like everybody else, they are dead wrong. I know this. I just dont think straights are ready willing and able to give up that "is" for: "used to be marriage was between a man and a woman". Its too confusing to straight people, Pat.

You sound like Arnold Horshack, Neroter

Remember "Welcome Back, Kotter" ?

Anyway, I do see your point (and most others here). I know it's an emotional argument on both extremities of the issue and that there are a huge hunk of people in the middle on both sides who don't really give a post-toastie one way or the other.
Since I'm not married (and never have been and never will be) I, personally, couldn't care less how marriage is defined, but when it became apparent that having the right to marry was a big deal for some gay people, it seemed (and still does) perfectly reasonable to me so I support it.
Why should gay people miss out on the realities of marriage? As Bill Maher quipped on his show last Friday, "Let their sex lives go to hell, too!"

Gawd! If I do sound like that I am now sulking away in embarassment. (I love Bill Mawr's comical parodies, btw!)

Linda,

DOMA does do that, but with the queers getting out of hand in that region, I think they just want some "insurance" that that disease doesn't cross over into their state.

Twelve:

Since when did you become a doctor, twelve? I thought you needed to go to school to get a medical license. In case you haven't read the journals lately, homosexuality is not a disease and not a mental condition.

Perhaps you should take out some insurance so you don't get hurt the next time you go into gay bars trying to convert people to your holier ways. How many toasters have you given away to your converts?

A question for liberals: What if a schizophrenic with multiple personalities decides he wants to marry one of his personalities?

You know, skylite really seems to like himself. I believe skylite should have the right to marry himself.

Why ask EAG? They don't care.... queer priests can still molest young boys, hell queers have a right to molest anyone, coming from their mouths...

It probably grates on their ignorance that some of the good people that do not support queer marriage are not religious... they just don't want to see the tradition of marriage bastardized by same sex couples...

Those shams in SF will soon come to end... We will soon have an amendment putting a stop to all this BS and then we can move on to more important things...

I will have to give the queers credit though... they picked a good time to try their BS, but I think they must now realize they are not wanted or accepted... after all 70% of the US agrees, that doesn't happen very often.

In all this long discussion nobody has pointed out that the big difference between gays and colored or women is you can't tell who is gay by looking at them. That makes a huge difference since it introduces an element of fear. Why the fellow next to you in the locker room could be one of THEM. Did he let his eyes linger a little to long on your hairy butt?

Gravid,

I brought that point with twelve earlier in the thread, I asked him "what if his doctor was gay?" Wouldn't that be a pleasant thought for him to ponder for a while, especially the next time he goes for a physical.

Twelve,

You still don't get it.

Child molesting is illgeal no matter who does it. Homosexuality is not against the law except perhaps in your own "Leave it to Beaver World".

Another mayor supports gay marriages:

It was interesting to read what he contributes to the "moral decay of society".

Why not just make him the next president, this world would be so far better off to have someone as wise as him?
