Personally, after living in both the U.S. and Canada, I find they're both great countries. One thing I like about Canada, is that none of our Prime Minister's have ever let it be known what religion they are, and religion has never been a part of our election process. I also like that fact that Canada is reviewing how effective the "drug war" is and is trying to change it's policies because it realizes the war isn't working. The things I like about the U.S. are the friendly people and the fact that most of your consumer goods are so cheap.

P.S. Kiara, have you seen "Trailer Park Boys" yet?

bigisland...you said:

"I agree that it is a trick question, just not what you or others might think.

I think camodog knew that most liberals would be unable to answer the question with a simple "NO". I think he understands that you guys are incapable of true pride for America. He must also understand that liberals live in area a grey expanse where nothing is truely wrong or right"

You are partly correct. However, I figure most liberals did not even answer the poll. I knew that those who were most offended by the notion would respond without answering it.

I believe that 1 person answered NO and basically followed the rules of the poll and that was Roadsmith

7 people answered YES while basically following the rules.

The rest did what I expected. A review of their reponses is very educational! I was especially impressed with how much light was shown on Dave. Way to go Dave!!

Not much else needs to be said. You know...the best way to defeat a liberal is to let them speak

Thanks guys....that was fun!!

Is this a school project, Camodog?

KD - It appears other Canadians disagree with your statement:

Separation of Church and state?

To take the second and easier matter first, the so-called separation of Church and state is not a Canadian principle. It is articulated in precisely none of our governing documents—not the BNA Act, not the Constitution, not the Charter.

It is not even, as is widely supposed, an official American principle. It is not in the Declaration of Independence nor in the American Constitution.
It comes originally from a letter (a letter!) by one individual, Thomas Jefferson, articulating his own interpretation of the Constitution to the Danbury Baptist Association in 1802. But Jefferson's powerful metaphor of a "wall of separation" has bedeviled American and more recently Canadian—discussions of Church-state relations for more than two centuries.

Church and state, in fact, have cooperated throughout Canadian history, and they do today.

Re-elect President Bush!!

The first paragraph is worth noting.

I bet if a poll was taken here, and you asked what religion Paul Martin, Chretien, Trudeau, etc. were, nobody would know. Stuff like that has never been talked about - in my circles anyway.

Kiara, Skylite, do you know? Have you ever know the religion of any Canadian politician?

Sorry but I have to bring this up

There is a difference between a people who celebrate the sawing off the head of another human being and a people who agonize over some evil terrorists who are mistreated in prison.

Apparently you unaware of the difference in definitions between "prisoners" and "detainees" . Hundres of the detainees at the prison were recentlly released, now considering this, do you really believe that they were actually terroists or is it possible that you simply drank the conservative kool aid on that one?
~~~ • ~~~ • ~~~ • ~~~ • ~~~
If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?
Camodog, there are only seven yes or no answers to your question from the pitiful little group of right wingers ...bigslandhiker, Ebayauctionguy, Fred, LindaK, Nearthesea, twig125silver, and yourself. Now you should know that you can't jerk the thinking group here around and expect to gather information.
Gee, I overestimated your intelligence.
Well of course I think the US is the greatest or best country. It is my country. With few exceptions most people would say that their country is the best.
However, even while feeling that my country is the best, I have no problem with acknowledging its faults. Every country has faults, and ours is no exception.
Well said, Helen. Like I said, this is by and large a juvenile post. By the way, my answer is "maybe". Because I have never lived anywhere else, I cannot truthfully say, "yes".
fenix, I think that some believe that all the prisoners aka detainees were terrorists and that they deserved to be punished. They are unaware that so many were innocent and have been released or they conveniently overlook it so they don't have to deal with it in their own minds.
P.S. Kiara, have you seen "Trailer Park Boys" yet?
No, am I missing something?
I've never given much thought to the religion of any Canadian politicians and so far I've never heard any mention it or any talk about getting messages from God.
Is the "golden" truth the highest you can go?
Kiara, you've got to see it. It's filmed in Halifax and the funniest thing on TV.
Cheryl-
All I said was that I HAVE lived in other countries and I say Yes.
For that Helen calls me a "right-winger", kinda like it's a disease.
If this country is SO HORRIBLE, you have the FREEDOM to leave for greener pastures.
I never said it was perfect, not even close. But I do believe it's the best place to live and raise children.
I'm very sorry that I included you among the group of right-wingers if you are not one. Please accept my appology, Terry Ann.
