Lets see, Spyder Man 2 opening day $$40.5M. vs the $24.1 million "Fahrenheit 9/11" earned in an entire week. Finally the American people know what to believe,
-----------------------

LOS ANGELES (AP) - "Spider-Man 2" took in $40.5 million in its first day, a record debut that positions the film to beat more box-office highs through the Fourth of July weekend.

Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations, said Thursday that "Spider-Man 2" could go on to shatter other debut records, including the best three-day weekend of $114.8 million for "Spider-Man."

Ticket sales Wednesday surpassed the previous debut record of $39.4 million that the original "Spider-Man" grossed in its first day two years ago.

The opening-day figure for "Spider-Man 2" was even more remarkable since it came on a Wednesday, when business is slower than on weekends. The first "Spider-Man" debuted on a Friday.

"We're in uncharted territory looking at midweek numbers this big," Dergarabedian said. "I remember when $40 million was a big opening weekend for a movie not that long ago, and now that's a single day in the middle of the week."

The best previous debut for a movie opening on Wednesday was $34.5 million last December for "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King."

Hate to break it to ya like this Crowbait, but Spiderman is as real as Moore is.

And a lot more amusing...

Saw them both.
Apples and Orages.
A Documentary and an Action Film.
Both were well done.

A documentary has never earned what a blockbuster action movie has and never will but whats the point?

Bush is still a sleeze bag.

Hey Bear - you want to play the numbers game....

Spiderman - Opening day 40.5 Million with 4152 theaters (not screens remember, theaters) = $9754 per theater on opening day.

Fahrenheit 9/11 - Opening day 8.4 million with 868 theaters (and no where near as many screens per theater $9677 per theater on opening day.

In order for Spiderman to equal the per theater totals of Fahrenheit it would have to gross over 108 million dollars.

Let'em scoff Bear... farhenlie 9/11 will soon fade into movie history...

War profiteer Moore didn't have any competition for his opening day and he did play it smart with some pre-release publicity...

Moore's film cost $6 million to make. That wouldn't even pay one of the stars on Spiderman.

War profiteer?

40% to Miramar or Miramax, whatever it is and

60% to charity.

You have Moore confused with Cheney and Haliburton

I've heard that Moore plans to release the film on DVD before the election but I don't know if it's true or not.

Moore couldn't get the film into more than 868 theaters.

So it shows that the public wanted to see Spiderman more than Moore's Lies.

And better to be a dingle berry that a Demo Kerry hemroid.

Oh my little Fuzzy Wuzzy - don't you understand yet that it is theater owners and not the public that decide what goes into a theater. Obviously people wanted to see it since it was doing the same dollar amoun per theater as Spiderman is this week. In fact, enough people wanted to see it that more theater owners decided to make the investment. It is now in almost twice as many theaters this week as last.

Well then obviously you can't comprehend the that out of the 5 to 6 thousand theaters in America only 868 WANTED to show it. But all of those 5 to 6 Thousand theaters WANTED to show Spiderman.

Last week when Fahrenheit 9/11 opened only two theatres in my area were screening it. This week almost every theatre within a 30 mile radius is playing it. The only exceptions are a couple of drive-in theatres, and 2 or 3 walk-ins whose chain is playing the film in a sister theatre less than two miles away.

Gee, I wonder why?

You're lucky you have drive in's. They closed the last ones around here 10 or 15 years ago. I miss them.

It's in most of the multiplex theatres around here and most shows are still selling out.

I hope the rumor is true and it gets released befor the election.

91.6 Yikes! That's getting a little warm for me.
I'm out in the country here in Minnesota and still duck when a fire cracker goes off...I've had bullets put holes in the side of the barn while I was in it!
I'm headed for a hard day in the hammock but I'll be back to harrass some more righties!
Have fun!
