Sounds like dictatorship to me...
Again because of your apparent lack of understanding just how those powers are given to a president.
For example: Bush took action against saddam. But clinton had already passed the legislation that stated that policy as OUR American policy.
Then...under due process....OUR CONGRESS....gave this President that permission to take that action.
Re-elect President Bush!!
edited to add: Where as under a dictatorship.....that dictator would not need nor be required to get that power from anybody.

Linda, how can you see bush as having a backbone when he was such a coward he evaded duty in Vietnam? Kerry didn't ...he had the backbone and moral fiber to go there and actually participate.
Bush drank.

Linda...read this once more..
And the right of the president to make that decision on behalf of the United States in his sole discretion. In short, the president can start a war against anyone at any time, and no one has the right to stop him...
Isn't this what he did? Did he get the go ahead from the UN?... NO
Does that make him a criminal? Yes

Maggie - Are you and Internationalist too?
I don't know who, if anyone you're quoting, but you've got it wrong.
Should any president take actions...alone...only his decision...he has to inform the Congress within [I believe 48] of doing so. Because, yes, there might be times when an immediate decision to protect this country may have to be made at a time, say, when our Congress is on vacation.
Also...I'm SURE you're aware that NO American president is required, in any way, shape or form, to get permission from the UN to take any action it wishes to.
Now...if kerry gets elected, I have no doubt HE'll try to change our laws to reflect that requirement. Another reason I'm praying he's NOT elected.

I'd also be interested, Maggie, in how you see clinton's bombing on Iraq on 12-16-98 - without even our Congress' approval - which President Bush did obtain- and no approval from the UN. Was that action okay by you? Or were you upset he was acting on his own....like a dictator?

Dave
To answer your question many posts ago, I don't know why I bother. In fact, most of the time I don't anymore. The only thing I know Linda believes is what she continually cuts and pastes here. I don't know much of what is going on in her own mind.
Registered Democrat and proud of it.
No, I haven't seen the movie, but will whenever I get the chance. I'm too busy trying to keep a roof over our heads during this great boom in the economy that Linda and Twelve talk about. Two layoffs in one household hardly supports a booming economy.
As for MM hating America. . .anyone that thinks outside the conservative box hates America according to some. Anyone telling the truth, loving peace and who thinks the world should be united and not divided, hates America. That's my take on all this nonsense about the movie. MM does not hate America.

KD - I stated MY position....what I'd do....no need to lighten up to something I don't agree with....labeling someone a homosexual when I don't know that to be the truth.
It's rude...and not funny in MY eyes.

Dave, I've long ago given up any thought that you could EVER be civil to people who don't support your positions. No surprise there at all.
And you say *I* wish to strip them of their rights? Kerry voted for the Patriot Act in case you've forgotten. He agreed with it.
Don't see you blasting HIM for voting for it - only blaming this administration.

By the way LINDUH, in case you haven't read a newspaper in years.....the administration LIED to all congressmen about the true state of conditions in Iraq and lead them to believe a war and the Patriot act were necessary......neither was!
You keep running into your own ass...if Kerry voted for your beloved George's "Patriot" Act then you should approve!
And you shriveled up hateful old dead-eyed shrew...you were SO fooled by it being called the PATRIOT act that I bet you never read another damn thing about it!

crowfarm, crowfarm, crowfarm. Let's be nice. You are right about the Patriot Act. It's a frightening thing and if Linda has not read it, I suggest she does. If the truth was told from the beginning, it would never have passed. The day that act was signed, was a black day in the USA.
