logansdad - That is old news from March and your own article even says:

Congress, which would have to authorize a draft, has shown no interest in taking such a step.

So I guess a news story from three months ago is old news. If the news story didn't mean a thing then why was it even printed.
Congress won't adress this issues until after the election because it would be another sore topic with the voters. If Bush wants a draft to support his war efforts, he can pursuade Congress to get his way. After all that is what he did with the funding requests.

Homosexuals know when they sign up that they are not allowed in the military... The brave men and women they serve with do not want them in thier units and it does cause units to not be as cohesive as they should be.

where is your proof before this state

Maybe these are just homosexuals using an easy out because they are no longer willing to do the service they signed up for... fortunately most will not receive an honorable discharge and that will affect them for some time to come...

The smart people will use this excuse when the government institutes a draft and don't want to serve. I should say all those that do not have power and money to get out of serving like Bush and Cheney did.

Unlike you logansdad I have served in the military and I can say we did not treat homosexuals kindly...

There were at least two I know of and ooops one fell overboard and was lost at sea... the other professed to the killing and received a bad conduct discharge plus prison time... still there I believe.

No one missed either one...

Neroter, the numbers I have seen show over 10,000 people have been discharged over this policy since 1994.

Linda, here is an article from today. I hope that is more recent for you.

The Defense Department denies it's considering reinstating the military draft, which ended in 1973. But the multiple recalls of active units to combat duty, and recent call up of thousands of former soldiers who thought they'd retired, is fueling fears that the draft will come back.

Go ahead and dismiss the source if you want, but I still have a belief that a draft will happen.

1994 Huh? That would be under the clinton administration too. Appears BOTH administrations felt there was a problem of some kind.

But hey....I'm sure someone will come in here and tell you NOT to bring up clinton's name.

Linda, here is an article from today. I hope that is more recent for you.

It's not about being more recent....it's about the fact that this was already discussed....already answered....and the answer was NO, it's preparing for what may be a future need....not what's needed now.

The Defense Department denies it's considering reinstating the military draft, which ended in 1973[/i].

This is were those who aren't familiar with the military contracts don't appear to understand that these people [who the left says 'thought they'd retired'] knew full well their obligation hadn't been fulfilled. They knew that when they signed their contracts - joining up. And it happened in the 1991 Gulf war too. That was been 13 years ago...and they haven't started a draft yet - and they're still denying one is necessary/needed.

Again, I'll repeat for those who are opposed to a draft....it's two DEMOCRATS who have proposed voting for a draft during the Bush administration...and it's gone nowhere.

Re-elect President Bush!!

still can't find an article on this...but it really doesn't matter...it's the issue being discussed. But here is a link from last month on the subject from CBS. [CBS...not an unbiased source]

Nice to see she can laugh at herself.

It's not about being more recent....

Oh yes it was when the thread about the economy was posted a while back. Some one posted an article that was six months old and you jumped down that person's throat so don't tell me you don't need recent information.

1994 Huh? That would be under the clinton administration too. Appears BOTH administrations felt there was a problem of some kind.

I am quiet aware what happened during Clinton's administration. Clinton tried to end the military's discriminatory practices and did more for gay rights than any past president. YES there was a problem. Clinton felt the military was wrong and tried to do something to correct the problem. What has Bush done?? What did Regan or Bush Sr do?

and they're still denying one is necessary/needed.

This is something the government is excellent at. Do you honestly think they will admit they need a draft before an election? If all the soldiers didn't fulfill their contracts why weren't they called up when the war started. Why weren't they being used to replace the troops that already served 8 months in Iraq?

Speaking of denying or I should say lying. The government keeps lying about how long the soldiers will remain in Iraq, how long their tours will be, when they will be going home. So you want me to trust Bush and Rumsfeld when they say a draft won't be needed. I am not that stupid Linda.

That is false assumption to make. How do you know that I did not serve? Are you assuming that because I am gay, I could not have possibly been in the military? Not all gay people are "the flaming queens" that you make them out to be.

Perhaps it is the military that turns straight people gay?

What are you talking about 12. Everyone knows the Navy has much different standards than other branches of the services and welcomes gays into their rank.

I had a friend who was turned down by both the Army and the Marines for what was called homosexual experience, the Navy accpted his enlistment and last I heard he had become an officer.

Well have you served in the military logansdad?

Dave, when I was in, they also let in past drug abusers... the keyword is PAST, any officer found to currently be practicing homosexuality would find themselves at Courtsmartial...

twelve - You know he hasn't by what he says....his lack of understanding how the military works....it's rules...it's policies...it's don't ask don't tell policy.

Maybe he'll read up some on it...and see that's it is still cause for dismissal, as was agreed to under the clinton administration. That's why it's 'dont' tell'.
---------------------

logansdad - Oh yes it was when the thread about the economy was posted a while back.

...yes, just a tad different when discussing where the economy or jobs were six months prior and where they were on the date we were discussing it. The six month old data had changed. This hasn't changed....no new updates...same old news.

I guess crowfarm was partially right. You and twelve are not the same person but merely puppets for each other. You take turns speaking for each other.

Linda, again you are assuming because I was gay that I wasn't in the military......you have your opinion. What branch did you serve in since you are up to date on all the military regulations? Ah yes it was the Internet branch, the Google division, your rank and serial number were copy and paste. Lights out, revelry is at 0400

Once again logansdad have you served in the military? Is that so hard a question for you to answer?

Did you lie about no longer being a homosexual and serve?

Of course you won't answer... anyone reading here knows that you have never spent time in the military...

Well, firstlinda, you need to have a soul and you don't. Plus typing idiotic "LOL's" in almost every post is not REALLY laughter...it's just typing and worse, boring.
