Bunni: I love what you posted of Mark Shields' comments. Hmmmm. Sounds almost. . . dare I say it. . . . Christlike?

Hmmmm. Do unto others, etc.? (Or as George puts it, as recently as three days ago: The Golden Rule: Like your neighbor like you like to be liked yourself." I heard it on TV and would have thought his advisors would have knocked that out of him after 4 years.)

I've thought for a long time that, if Jesus walked this earth and this country today, he'd be a Democrat. He'd drive the money-changers from the temple, so to speak. He'd feed the 5,000. He'd heal the sick, regardless of ability to pay. He'd defend the sinners. He'd walk instead of driving an SUV. He might change water into wine instead of polluting the water. I suspect he'd live more like Ralph Nader than Donald Trump.

Well, we could go on and on, couldn't we!

Well....what a pleasant surprise. A statement made about what Jesus might do....and not ONE negative comment by an atheist, an agnostic or a Christian basher. How nice.

When a 'rightie' mentions anything about Jesus or God or most anything religious....their statements or they, themselves, are ususally attacked and insulted.

How nice to see it's different when a 'leftie' speaks of Jesus.
So, yes, I guess it's okay IF you're a leftie...to 'dare'.

Re-elect President Bush!!

Who says an atheist does not or can not believe in some or all of the moral doctrines of christianty, or any other religion ?

An atheist does not believe in supernatural beings, that includes all supernatural beings. It does not and never has meant that they are immoral or do not accept some or all of a religion's moral tennets.

Bush's problem with invoking religion is that he places the highest authority in supernatural beings rather than our Constitution.

And his silly religious meanderings has got him and our country in one mess after another both at home and abroad.

LOl reamond - I wasn't referring to this President at all.

I was referring to how some here are so willing to overlook a statement about Jesus when he's mentioned by a leftie. Very clear. And it appears you're saying you even agree with part of what Christianity professes now. When you have argued against religion with such vigor before.

Great...still a VERY PLEASANT SURPRISE.

Just spoke volumes to me when Jesus is even mentioned by a leftie.

But why would they necessarily have any problem with someone using a moral teaching of Jesus ? Jesus was a pacificist and a communist, there are many atheists who have the same ideals as Jesus.

It is when they invoke the godhood of Jesus that atheists do not accept.

There are any number of christian tennets that many atheists accept.

I know of no atheists that accept as OK murder or stealing.

But the difference is that they make their case on a purely humanitarian or utilitarian basis, not on what some cartoon character said.

You misrepresent or do not know what atheism is.

What I know reamond...and have already pointed out...is there is definately a double standand in here when a leftie mentions Jesus than when a rightie does the same thing. It's REAL clear.

Not clear at all.

In any event, Mark Shields is not the president of the United States.
