Clancey 99 You said it when you said, regarding Yahoo: “I would not mind paying the fees if the results justified them.”

bigcitycollectables I TOTALLY AGREE with you when you say: “I really hate the fact that Yahoo! auctions doesn’t support templates.”

Someone said the “template” problem is also a problem because of AW – the fact is many, many, many of us don’t use AW – but we use other system templates, or like myself I create all my auctions in a template fashion via FrontPage.

Tomiii Your comment of: :You CAN make a NICE template for BooHoo, just takes a bit more work!” Yes, that is true, BUT Yahoo is no longer worth the effort. When Yahoo was the “old” Yahoo, and we were selling like crazy – we took the time to adapt our templates – but it isn’t worth the time or effort any longer AND why should I take the time to adapt, when 99% of auctions take my templates and the “Yahoo loser site,” has to be elite in their slide down hill and make posting so difficult.

I can say this, Yahoo is working as hard as they can to close their eyes to their situation, and to go down hill as hard as they can – they are doing a great job of that, beyond Amazon, Yahoo is the most dedicated site in their tunnel vision, as they continue their downward slide.

Do you still have the problem with your pics not showing in featured unless listed directly through Yahoo?

That is what kept me away. I just didn't have time to list both places and I need the pix to sell.

I still have a $800 credit there from transfering my Ebay feedback and would love to use it if I could do so easily. The few items I have listed there got no bids though.

Both Yahoo and Amazon did the same thing, they tried to copy the leader. That may work off-line but on-line where the leader is just a click away it simply won't work. Another auction site simply will not be able to beat ebay. You need to do something completely different to beat ebay. Have you guys tried iOffer. It's small now but it is gaining a foothold. Remember, Bill Gates has said he's not worried about Xerox and IBM he's worried about a couple of guys in a garage coming out with the next best thing. I've been watching these guys over the past couple of months and they seem to be growing the teeth to tear a chunk out of ebay's a$$. That is who they seem to have in their crosshairs right now. www.feepaycartoon.com and www.mrgrabber.com

is there anything iOffer doies that Bargainandhaggle.com didn't do?

I hated that site. I'm in business to SELL THINGS, not haggle.

How many times can you tell someone that you won't sell a PS/2 System for a nickel before you go insane?

What I'd like to see is a good fixed price site like Amazon's zShops used to be. Yahoo stores are priced way out of most people's range. EBay stores are a good idea and could work if they got traffic and had a few other enhancements. But then, we're right back to talking about eBay again, aren't we.

I have been in this business for years and one thing I know for certain is no 3rd tier site will ever compete with ebay.

Yahoo's current fees are more than fair compared to ebay, and going to a FVF only setup would not work. You cant let sellers stockpile their junk for free. I really dont want thousands of recipes, ads, and nickel sports cards. All it takes is for each seller to list some goods, but we know it wont happen. When yahoo was free they could not bring the giant down....

IOffer has a few really cool features over B&H. It has an open offer format that is far superior to B&H. A person offering you a nickel for a PS/2, he probably learned that from online auctions. When you tell the guy to go take a hike with his nickel it's on the board for everyone else to see, it's highly unlikely that the next person will come and make you the same offer. Have you tried IOffer stores???? This is probably the best thing since auctions. Take a look at these transactions http://www.ioffer.com/viewItem.do?itemID=487464&tab=q#negotiate http://www.ioffer.com/viewItem.do?itemID=536939 The only way to beat ebay is to come up with something better for buyers. This is a better place to buy, the buyer never cared if yahoo was free, by the time the buyer sees the item what difference does it make to them if there is a listing fee or not. Buyers see Yahoo as a smaller auction why would they use it. Come up with something better than an auction that's the way to beat ebay.

I looked at ioffer and its no ebay or yahoo for that matter. I cant afford to warehouse my items waiting for cheapskates to offer much less what the items are worth. I list 1000 items every 10 days on yahoo which equals $5.00 daily. For the sales I make ioffer would not help my business.

I have never been able to set up 'much' of a template on Yahoo, other than using center and paragraph commands. Can you give me any insight as to what other html commands work there, specifically I would like to be able to justify both borders, so I could 'clean' up the edges of my auction text.

BTW, thanks for the tip on Deadzoom. It had been a while since I had stopped in there, and now I am very glad I had someone to remind me about it, as their 'Plates' are a great little tool for the self taught (thus highly dangerous) senior citizen, like myself.

It's little 'gems' like that (including Irfanview) that make this board very worth while!

nanntique: here's how I made a templete for BooHoo

First, I created a sample ad with kBuilder available here:

http://tinyurl.com/7m75

Then I test-launched the samplt to BooHoo until I got it right (cost 15 pennies!)

The, I save my templete to DEADZOOM PLATES or -- better yet, store it in the Yahoo Seller's Manager!

Now, when I list, it takes about 3 seconds to create an ad!

Here's an example:

Hey Tom!

That template does look nice, but do people actually READ all that stuff? Looks a little long to me, but whatever works for you...

Here's one of mine

http://pageuser.auctions.shopping.yahoo.com/auction/73064049

Just basic HTML and a few colors & images, but it's clearly more eye-catching than a generic white Yahoo auction.

I also noticed that you don't have a link to a Yahoo Booth. They're free, and are pretty customizable compared to an eBay "store."

GOOD QUESTION! My TOS is mainly designed as a CYA measure.

Hopefully, most questions are answered in the listing. Conversely, if someone yacks "Blah blah! Blah blah!" I can always respond: "Hey! I did state Blah! Blah in the auction listing!"

OTOH: I have received many compliments about my auctions, thanking me for CLEARLY stating easy-to-follow terms!

Tis a quandry!

Hey Tom -

My first time to catch your little fur face's picture. Give Ralphie a BIG hug for me. Looks like he has been your pal for quite some time. I grew up with a darling little Boston T (Blackie), what seems about a century ago. I still miss him to this day.

Another fur face is now my constant companion, a 46 pound Snow Leopard hybrid, we call 'Little'.

HE just loves hearing (and seeing) other people's 'babies'.
