Why trai? Has any of the other countries offered money to terrorists for killing Americans, publicly?

Has any other country openly supported terrorist activities like Saddam did...

Has any country that we believed had WMD's openly shown their support for those we fight?

Countries are always plotting against some "foreign power" behind the scenes and that is the reason for good intelligence...something kerry didn't understand as he voted agaisnt funding most of the time...

War has a very ugly face and it should or else people might like to do it more often...

I do not see us at war "forever" as you put it, but at least for the next four years, countries will know we are not afraid to do what needs to be done... without a "global" test.

AIN'T LIFE GRAND...

Bigotry and prejudice -- these are assertions, not arguments. This is name-calling, not case-building.

· Cheney criticized Democratic Congress for not cutting weapons enough. As Secretary of Defense for the First President Bush in the early 1990s, Dick Cheney urged Congress to cut these same weapons systems, and others, more than they were willing. “Congress has let me cancel a few programs. But you’ve squabbled and sometimes bickered and horse-traded and ended up forcing me to spend money on weapons that don’t fill a vital need in these times of tight budgets and new requirements. … You’ve directed me to buy more M-1s, F-14s, and F-16s—all great systems … but we have enough of them.” [Source: Slate, 2/25/04]

· Cheney launched a major Dept. of Defense downsizing, cutting major weapons programs: “I’ve always liked to remind everybody at the outset that we are already embarked upon a massive reduction in U.S. military capability, a 25-percent cut in force structure. We’ve got the lowest active force today that we’ve had since before Korea. I’ve eliminated 70,000 civilian jobs in the last 18 months out of the Pentagon. I’ve closed or terminated 81 programs. We’re shutting down 300 military bases worldwide. It’s a massive reduction already underway.” [Source: Cheney on ABC’s “This Week,” 9/29/91]

· Cheney on shutting down F-14D production: “What I recommended to the Committee was that we shut down the new F-14D production line.” [Source: Newsday, 2/5/91; Cheney testimony to House Armed Services Committee, 7/13/89]

· Cheney cutting B-2 bombers by 45%: “Defense Secretary Richard Cheney announced a cutback… of nearly 45 percent in the administration’s B-2 Stealth bomber program, from 132 airplanes to 75.” [Source: Boston Globe, 4/27/90]

· Cheney forcing Apache, F-14D, F-15 cuts: “This is just a list of some of the programs that I’ve recommended termination: the V-22 Osprey, the F-14D, the Army Helicopter Improvement Program, Phoenix missile, F-15E, the Apache helicopter, the M-1 tank, et cetera.” [Source: Cheney testimony, Senate Appropriations Committee, Defense Subcommittee, 6/12/90]

· Cheney on ending F-15 production: “But the overall message brought out by Cheney on Wednesday was that the industry will face cutbacks through the mid-1990s…The Pentagon plan includes an end to production of the Grumman F-14 and McDonnell F-15 jet fighters, both of which have significant content in California, including radars built by Hughes.” [Source: Los Angeles Times, 1/30/92]

We are losing our country and the reason is because we haven't shown our power. We laid in the weeds for the last 10 years and now we are paying the price.

And how do you suggest we show "our power"? Do you want the US to drop an atomic bomb at every country we disagree with. Will that show our power to the rest of the world?

Q. What's the difference between the Vietnam War and the Iraq War?

A. George W. Bush had a plan to get out of the Vietnam War.

Iraq was not responsible for 911.

It was not responsible just like the 9/11 commission said.

The fact remains that Rumsfeld and Cheney planned were planning this war well before Bush took office in 2000. When Bush "won" the election in 2000 he already had a game plan and had the right cabinet members in place or should I say it the other way around. The cabinet members had a puppet they could manipulate so they could justify the war. When the 9/11 occurred it made it easier for Bush's cabinet members to carry out their plan.

So you are saying logansdad that 911 was planned and that they knew about it. Get a life. Nobody likes a war..

Harry Truman wasn't afraid to use it. It sure woke up Japan.....

Libra: So you are saying logansdad that 911 was planned and that they knew about it.

Libra, yes 9/11 was planned by Bin Laden. Didn't you read how long it took for him to plan everything. It took years and lots of financing to carry out his plan. I am sure he didn't wake up on 9/10/01 and say I am going to attack the United States tomorrow with airplanes. I better start calling my gang to see who would be willing to help.

Now that is out of the way, the point I was trying to make is that the right keeps claiming Bush attacked Iraq in response to 9/11 and to "reduce a so-called threat". The fact remains the Iraq War was planned well before 9/11, well before Bush was elected in 2000. When Bush got elected, the plan had someone that would actually carry it out. The 9/11 attacks made the plan more justifiable.

And then you wonder why there is so much anti-American feelings around the world.

Logansdad: What do you base your opinion on, that the war in Iraq was planned well before Bush's election? Have you read any of those tell all books by his dethroned cabinet members or staff? Is that where this opinion comes from? I am very curious how you proclaim to know this?

Maggie: Is big brother after you again? Why you erasing all your posts?? I saw your she devil picture. (It didnt offend me if you think did?)

I have to borrow your fainting smilie' now...very cute....

What a foolish statement that is.

As to the rest--no, Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11. And certainly nothing to do with bin Laden: it is a documented fact that Hussein hated bin Laden.

I applauded Bush when he went after Afghanistan--which did have ties to bin Laden & was protecting him at the time--and also was a training ground for his terrorists. But Bush had another agenda in mind when he went after Iraq much as he tried to say otherwise. Like a child caught in a lie, he kept changing the reason we were at war when his fabrications kept being exposed for what they were.

Bush & Co. have never explained why they didn't set their sights on Saudi Arabia, the home of most of the 9-11 terrorists. Or even against Iran which had a track record in terrorism against us as well.

But now we're stuck. For better or worse we have to stay in Iraq & try to clean up the mess we've made there. But I doubt the Iraqis are going to get the freedom that Bush has touted--because Bush & Co. have made sure that outside interests, mostly American, will have control of Iraq's business infrastructure. It is unlikely that it will be "their" country in the near future, and perhaps never.
